After a very long drive from Edinburgh, we were delighted to open the doors to Solas Alain. It was larger than we imagined and absolutely immaculate. The views took our breath away and changed over the course of the day. The unexpected highlight for me was how close it was to the Quiraing. I got up early two of the three mornings to make my way up before sunrise and found myself the only one there on the second morning, and in the middle of magical wedding dress photo shoots the first. We took a drive out to DUNVEGAN and Neiste Point and then just watched our view from the bench outside on o...more
This is a gem perched on a paradisiacal peninsula - an absolute delight. Waking up the sun rising over Brother's Point made for a set of images we'll not soon forget
We had a wonderful stay at Finnan's Byre. It had everything you could possibly need. Comfy bed, great kitchen, warm house, great shower, lovely quiet and peaceful location. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Skye as Edinbane feels very close to all the things on the island. Everything about 30/40 minutes away. (Yes this is close). It also has two great restaurants in the village, we ate at the Edinbane Lodge which was a fabulous experience.
Have you ever regretted not having spent more time in a particular location ? Well, that was our family’s feeling upon leaving leaving Skye and Ruadh. Ruadh is a splendid house. Welcoming, cozy, perfectly appointed. Yet the most impressive part of it are the views. Seat in any of the sofas, any time of day, are you will witness all the beauty of isle of Skye’s scenery.
For our group of 8, we loved the house, the location, the views. It was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. Our only problem was, with 8 of us, not everyone had hot showers in the morning but we adjusted so it worked out ok. Wish we could have stayed longer to just rest and relax at the house! Next time!
The beautiful cottage is set in a beautiful landscape, off the main road, yet within reach of many sightseeing spots & walks and the local shop is just a few minutes drive away. The kitchen is fully equipped, we used the two en suite bedrooms which were very cosy and absolutely clean. We especially enjoyed the fireplace in the living room and the possibility to sit outside and enjoy the evening sun. The hiking information and maps available was highly appreciated.
What a gorgeous property for a relaxing break with breathtaking views. Every thing on hand at this property including washing machine and tumble dryer. We throughly enjoyed our stay here and so did our french bulldog " peanut " lovely walk down the lane at the rear of the garden. Perfectly placed to explore the island. Sad to leave but will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
The Mill is a beautiful house with lots of character. Absolutely everything we needed was provided and we felt very much at home. The house was warm, It was very clean, there’s lots of space and the showers were great - important after a long day walking! Seamus and Maggie gave us a lovely welcome and were very kind. The location is great. It was lovely to walk down to the shore of the beautiful bay at sunset and look out for the otters and seals. It’s very close to so many beautiful places in Skye including the falls of Rha, the fairy glen, and the Quairang. It made a great base...more
We know this area well and were delighted when the house at 10 Husabost was "refurbished" to provide very well appointed accommodation. We were 5 in total and enjoyed the very generous bedroom, bathroom and living/kitchen space. There was also an excellent utility room with a very handy pulley! The bedrooms are very nicely decorated with - we thought - a New England feel. The bedlinen is good quality - the duvet was in the cover the wrong way though! Not life threatening but annoying!! The bathrooms are exceptionally well done although the controls for the bidet did have us flummoxed...more
We had such a wonderful week staying at Taigh na Laige. The cottage had everything we needed during our stay and we very much appreciated the little extras including the welcome gift on arrival! The cottage was located well for us to explore all sides of Skye, we particularly enjoyed visiting Loch Coruisk and Raasay and would highly recommend to future guests. Key collection was simple and allowed us good flexibility in arrival and departure time. We would love to come back again in the future and will be recommended the cottage to our friends and family. Thanks for everything, Lynne!
An ideal cottage for a couple. The owners are very kind and helpfull. Handy central location on the Isle of Skye. You can walk to the town center and still benefit from a very calm environment.
What a treat to stay in that lovely croft with such a fantastic view in a very quiet surrounding, The very friendly owner dropped by just to ask if we needed anything but we just couldn’t think of nothing or wish for more. The croft is fully equipped with comfy rooms, beds and all three of us had their own bathroom!!! Kitchen is perfect and the living room very cosy not to mention the great winter garden room. Located on the mid west coast we found points of interest in a reachable distance even you need time to drive the spectacular roads. On our way back we went many times to The Old Inn in ...more
Had a lovely 5 days at Taobh na Mara with my 3 kids aged from 6 to teens. The cottage was just as described - even better than the photos. Newly refurbished and perfectly clean. We appreciated the washer and tumble dryer and Nespresso machine. The location is brilliant - not in town but close enough to get supplies easily and reach a lot of the sights within about half an hour - we visited the Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools (a bit further, around 45 mins). The loch views are very peaceful in the morning and evening and it’s wonderfully quiet.
We’ve a very very pleasant stay in Alderburn 1. The location is just marvellous and the house very comfortable: Everything you would need -and more- is there! The heating was pre-programmed and 1 radiator of the master bedroom had a broken thermostatic valve. This caused a high temperature in the room when going to bed. Later this is handled by a plumber: perfect. The communication with both the owner and Islands and Highlands Cottages was always very good and with quick response. A perfect location for a potential future trip to Skye.
If you want peace, you will find it here. MacKinnon is in the remote village of Ord on the much underrated South part of the Island (Sleat). We thought the place was simple but not basic; it was remote but not miles-from-everywhere. The main room overlooks the loch and mountains and the view can replace the TV. The other room are just what you need in terms of comfort and the kitchen is really well appointed. The wood burning stove (in October) is superb (wood provided). We loved it and would recommend.
The cottage was extremely well equipped and in a lovely location, convenient for exploring Skye. However, please note the brochure states the washing machine is available only to those booked at the property for "7 days or more" - however at the property the notice states "over 7 days". This needs clarifying and in either case seems odd if the property has a washing machine. Also the single bed was not comfortable, perhaps time for a new mattress? Having said all that, we had a very enjoyable stay in this lovely property.
Fantastic cottage. We had 6 guys in here for a week doing some mountaineering up on the Cuillin Hills. It is a really nice place, we are repeat customers from the year previous. 1 - The shower is weak, not what you want after a day on the hill. 2 - I would like a number so that I could inform the owners that I was leaving a day early, this would doubtless help them and make me feel happier about leaving the key in the agreed place but hardly secure. That is all I can think to drip about, we will book in next year.
This was our first trip to Skye and although it rained almost continuously, was immensely enjoyable due to the high quality of the cottage and it’s furnishings. There are lots of spectacular walks and viewing points close by, in particular, Duntulm castle and the walk at Rubha Hunish.
Lovely, spacious home with 4 ensuite bedrooms. One mile from Uig ferry terminal and only 20 minutes to Portree, plus a 5 minute walk to a well stocked Rankines supermarket. We were there for seven nights and weather permitting, managed to achieve everything we wanted to visit and see. Dinosaur footprints, the museum too, Dunvegan castle, Raasay, waterfalls, mountains, lochs and beaches. Skye is very rich with history and things to see, but take into account that it is very large distance wise as well. A few things that didn’t work at the house. Wi-Fi didn’t work on arrival on Saturday, so c...more
We had a lovely week at Ploughman's cottage. The living areas are spacious, giving us plenty of space to eat, play games or just chill. The larder was well stocked with kitchen basics such as spices, oil, etc. and there was plenty of loo paper. There were views from almost every window especially when the sun shone and at sunset. Edinbane is a small hamlet with restaurants, an excellent play area for youngsters and a delightful pottery. We walked to the beach and enjoyed watching the tide come in and submerge the islands we were standing on. We also found a hidden waterfall. The cott...more
Stunning property, superb location. Everything we could possibly need and so cosy. Spotlessly clean and excellent customer service. Would certainly recommend.
Cottage was perfect for our three families to all be together on Skye. Views from the cottage are spectacular. While it is a couple miles out of Portree, the views made the location worth it and gave us a very secluded feeling. We loved the quiet and serenity of the cottage. Beds are all comfy, kitchen has everything you need, great laundry room with a dryer which is a bonus during wet weather. Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much for having us.
This was our third visit and we have two more planned. Such an amazing location - nowhere is better for unwinding than here. Just adore this place.
Tigh Anndra is a beautifully equipped cottage for a couple. We have been twice and just love the wilderness of the cottage, just sweeping views of the mountains. It is a special place for us, watching the swallows fly and the sheep come and go across from the moor. There is a handy bus service that can get you to Portree and Uig. We liked the lack of wifi. It gave us time to truly disconnect. Thank you Angus for our stay.
Very VERY nice cottage, with beautiful views. We saw the whole Cuillin range, and the nearby Loch is so beautiful that I took photos every day. Lots of room in the house, a beautiful kitchen, comfortable bed. Very quiet location. We, as senior foreigners, don't understand the tv very well and didn't find many interesting channels - but we had books. The only lighting in the living room is ceiling lights. That doesn't make the atmosphere cosy in the evenings. Apart from those minor things, it's a beautiful place and we would certainly come back.
Upper Milovaig, which oddly is at a lower altitude than Lower Milovaig, is a quiet location with viws to the north down Loch Pooltiel. The only mainstream tourist draw is the Neist Point Lighthouse. Otherwise Glendale is a pleasing, friendly and quiet location with a good cafe and a cute general store. Would be a good place to watch for an aurora. Cottage is modern and well-appointed. Unusually warm weather caused some problems as house not designed for such conditions, but that heat wave passed while we were there.
Tidal cottage is a lovely place to stay for a few days, very peaceful. We saw otters in front of the cottage on a nightly basis.
Perfect for 2 people. Well-stocked kitchen, fine selection of walking books, reading books, DVDs. King bed is very comfortable. The internet broadband is the best in the area. We would definitely stay here again. A bonus - Hugh has fine coffees and cakes along with light lunch and soup in the gallery next door.
Our family enjoyed a wonderful stay at Bay View Bungalow! The bungalow was just as pictured on the website. We found the home clean and everything in perfect working order. The decor is fresh and modern, and the floorplan is spacious and comfortable. The view is outstanding! We enjoyed watching the ferry come and go. The kitchen is well-equipped and we found everything we needed for several meals at Rankins supermarket only a few minutes away. We think Uig is a great location for exploring both peninsulas. Overall, we could not imagine a more perfect stay and we cannot wait to return!
The Bothy was one of the fanciest places that we've ever stayed. Between the views, the fireplace, large soaking tub, shower, sauna, kitchen, I could go on- it was a truly luxurious stay and we couldn't ask for more for our honeymoon. There was only one thing that I hope won't turn people away from staying at this wonderful place, but for people to be aware of: when we arrived, the hot water was not running. We found what I believed to be an on-demand water heater in the kitchen, and after turning it on we had to wait until the next morning to start getting the hot water. Not a big deal,...more
Our second time at The Steading. Pool table still no good- it dips in the middle! So can’t use it. Heating comes on at stupid o’clock and makes very loud noises and wakes everyone up. Sometimes no hot water left after 1 shower. Welcome pack none existent. Not enough loo rolls and kitchen rolls and cleaning equipment. Not enough dishwasher tabs or logs for the weeks stay. The first time we stayed here in 2021 it was total opposite of all of the above. It’s a great place to stay but needs some attention, beds not great- hard mattress, towels small and lacks comfort. A window seat with cus...more
Kinloch Follart is a really lovely home set in a convenient position close to Dunvegan. The property is set into its own grounds and has ample space for parking. Highlights included a table tennis table and the general nature of the home. The rooms are beautifully proportioned with a lovely staircase centrally. Access to Dunvegan (5 min drive, 1 mile walk) is excellent. The interior of the property is quite tired albeit reasonably well equipped. The cleanliness of the property was poor and there was a lack of certain provision upon arrival (hand soap and hand towels).
Kantara was a great place for us to stay while we were on Skye. It was easy to get around the isle and a short walk to town.
We had an amazing week in Staffin, the house is in a really good location for visiting Skye, it’s very comfortable and clean.
We enjoyed the cottage very much. The location was brilliant, the size was perfect for 6 people and the double rooms with bathrooms was great. The one thing we did agree on was that new beds are needed! The single beds creaked a lot and the mattresses were all a bit lumpy. Apart from that, faultless.
we had a warm welcome with many information and advice about the cottage and what to do around. The place was well furnished and cozy. We were only 7' away from downtown so we could leave the car and do most on the town on foot
Newly refurbished, modern, extremely clean, well equipped, comfortable impressive cottage. Hosts were generous with extra bits like loo roll and washing up liquid. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. Gorgeous west facing views over the beach. Would recommend. Things to flag: The master bedroom has a separate staircase to the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, but both staircases are very narrow and steep - anyone with impaired mobility would struggle and young children need supervision. Access to the cottage is a 20 mins drive down a single track road (surfaced but no road mark...more
Tigh na Dalach is a wonderful place to be able to stay. Like the title of he review a home from home. We were privileged to stay here for two weeks. Watching the tides and wildlife from house and garden. Wonderful. Excellent location, Plockton is pure heaven. The cottage is comfortable, has everything you need. We enjoyed our two weeks immensely and felt relaxed straight away. Not only does the cottage provide you with ideal base from which to explore, Plockton is lovely to walk round, excellent pubs,Inn and Plockton Shores was heaven. Callum's not trips as entertaining as ever. And try...more
This was lovely accommodation. Instructions on how to get here are very good. Well equipped with everything you need apart from dishwasher and oven was not very good with minimal instructions and dials faded. Two days before we left the hot water did not work at all despite putting it on a boost. I did report but it was too late for them to fix, so hopefully everything will be in order for the next guests. We really enjoyed our family holiday on Skye (apart from the rain!) and managed to tour most of the island and a day trip to Rassay. Customer service from the company is very good.
Sorley's House was a great place to stay. Location was close to most points of interest in the area. The value made up for any of the extra driving to and from Portage. The two biggest complaints are the beds were uncomfortable and the shower had very low water pressure.
Zeer ruim. Helemaal Top
Beautiful, well-equipped accommodation. A single, small downer: the somewhat worn-out mattresses could be renewed.
Just wee dust on the windows but all the beds towels and toilets were clean and some spots and some of the kitchen's wear handle broken but there were all everything you need. The cottage were so cosy and good funtionality. The location was great. we loved it. Thanks
We enjoyed the remote location, the view, the peace, the well equipped kitchen, the loungeroom with soaring ceiling and the spacious bathrooms of Coig Deug. The absence of WiFi was a bit annoying but we were able to hotspot from our phones. The mattress in the main bedroom is rather uncomfortable and should be replaced. Nevertheless, we would stay again.
A lovely quiet location, only 2 minute to the shore. Seals aplenty! Lots of birds etc. The croft is typically small but everything you need is within it. A fantastic break for us. I would certainly return here. Everyone we met in Skye were extremely friendly and welcoming....so refreshing.
The Bungalow was in an excellent location. We were a bit dissappointed at the decor as it did not feel we were in Scotland.
Lovely views, relatively remote and secluded - perfect if you are looking to truly get away from it all. Lovely local walks and outstanding service and assistance from IH Cottages as always.
We had a lovely week staying in the cottage. It had everything we needed, including a very useful dryer for when the weather was a bit damp! The enclosed garden was excellent for our energetic dog, with a wonderful view across the water to the next peninsula. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room for us all. The location might be a little remote for some people, but we really appreciated the peace and quiet, when the rest of the island was busy with summer visitors. There are good walks from the door, and excellent tea and cake at the Yurt Cafe just down the road. The owner ca...more
We really enjoyed this cottage, it had a cosy natural feel and we felt very at home. The location was lovely, we enjoyed the sunsets and view over the water and the hills. The stove was very efficient and the cottage was really warm and cosy. The extra folding bed was ideal, it meant the non-couples in the group didn't have to share a room. The kitchen is very small with very little storage space for food. The fridge only has a very small freezer compartment. But we managed to make it work by storing non-chilled food in other rooms. The stairs are very steep and wouldn't be great with litt...more
We had a fantastic week at Bridge Cottage! The cottage itself was cosy, clean and comfortable. The central location made it ideal for exploring the whole island, and its immediate environs provide lovely views and the relaxing trickle of the stream. We enjoyed lovely sunsets around the fire pit as well as cosy evenings snuggled up in front of the wood burner. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys peaceful holidays in the great outdoors!
We had a lovely stay at the croft, and found it well located for exploring the rest of Skye as well as spending the evenings in Portree. It was equipped with everything we needed. We would definitely stay again!
I have stayed many times at the Stationmaster's House but this is the first privately. Good accommodation and location.
This is a very comfortable modern house, well appointed with 3.5 bathrooms, 3 double bedrooms and a study/single room. It's well furnished and decorated in a slightly bland Highland style The location is good but the views are a bit limited especially when compared to other parts of Skye. There are some slightly over-complicated instructions for the rubbish - this should be taken care of by the cleaners/ owners. The only negative is the cost - it is very expensive for what it is.
Wonderful stay - lovely comfortable cottage which had everything we needed. Great location and views - really felt we were away from it all but only a ten minute drive to Broadford for supplies. Fab tearoom (Amys Place) within 5 mins walk with the best cakes ever! Lots great walking on the doorstep.
We loved our stay at Allt Slapin. Everything was clean and tidy and with a 'lived in' feel rather than brand new. Just 15 minutes from the pub, coop and fish and chip shop but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. Warm and cosy. Lots of wildlife around. The only real issue is the owners must maintain the shared drive better. It's lumpy and rocky. The bottom of our Vauxhall Zafira will never be the same again after it grounded a few times despite very careful driving ! Fine if you have a land rover. Not fine if you have a normal car with normal clearance.
The cottage needs a renovation, especially for that price. Besides wonderful looks it is situated quite far away from the main areas of Sky. Just Dunvegan Castle is nearby.
We all enjoyed our stay although my disabled son was in a panic when all the electricity went off when we were in bed. It did come back on after a short while though. We were invited by a farmer to come and watch the sheep shearing and we enjoyed that immensely. Unfortunately the long walks we imagined with the dog wasn't able to happen because we were surrounded by sheep.
Upfront: Legal action is pending against this property owner, who is actually based in Troon, not Skye. Quite frankly, don't book this property. The keys do not work to either the front or rear door, which is a fire hazard to anyone needing to escape the property in a fire crisis. Unforgivable. The front door opposite the loch did not open whichever key was used, because none of them work in any way whatsoever. For the price bracket on Skye, as frequent visitors, choose something else for the money aside from any other issues this review raises. The sink in the bathroom leaks whenev...more
The Flat was nice, clean and comfortable providing everything needed including a full kitchen so meals could be prepared when restaurant availabilities were limited or unavailable. The location of the Flat is exceptional, extremely close to the major tourist sites on the Island.
The location is quiet and peaceful with lovely views from the top floor. If other guests were staying in the one bedroom apartment the facility may not be as quiet. I don’t believe I understood the house was divided into separate rentals when I booked. Perhaps make this clearer. The building itself needs some TLC. The front door was difficult to open and lock. The carpet inside the front door was wet on arrival. I also suggest condensing the emails, compendium and accommodation instructions to be more concise and readable. Too many words makes the reader loose interest and get confused. ...more
