Perfect property and location for meeting up with family. Quiet and comfortable. Looking forward to staying again!
Had problems with fire alarms when we burnt a sausage. There was no information about how to turn them off.
We hired Silverholme and the nearby Hullet Hall for a long weekend to celebrate my 60th with family and friends. It was awesome. The views from the house are spectacular and all the rooms very comfortable. The kitchen accommodated 24 of us and there was plenty of pantry storage and fridge storage for food. Vanessa looked after us well and responded quickly to a couple of maintenance requests while we were there. We held a dinner on the Saturday evening in the coach house opposite the manor and brought in a chef for the occasion who is now based in Kendal who was absolutely brilliant and is now...more
A lovely, relaxing location for a break in the Lake District. Excellent walks & views locally. Lots of fun at Graythwaite Adventure.
This is the perfect cottage to stay at in the lakes. With stunning views over Windermere. Recommended
Lovely little cottage in a great location. This is was our third stay at this location and will definitely book again.
Home Farmhouse was a lovely base for our week's break. The location was perfect for us as we had two dogs with us and could walk directly from the house and the dogs had a wonderful time. The walk down to the lake was lovely too and we were blessed with stunning weather! It is a very quiet and peaceful spot but with good facilities in the courtyard. The house was welcoming and there was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed a swim or two, a session kayaking on the lake and the little shop was great. For those guests driving electric vehicles there is now a charging point i...more
Super and cosy cottage, in the beautiful estate. The cottage shop is brilliant and the walks directly from the cottages onto the estate are beautiful. Highly recommend the Bushcraft experience with the Graythwaite Adventure team.
We had a very happy couple of weeks in Can Brow which was everything we could have asked for - and more as the washing machine was an unexpected bonus. One week was loud, lively and fun-packed with our family and friends during which we particularly enjoyed the swimming facilities, outside communal barbecues and eating areas and proximity to Lake Windermere, where we could use various registered watercraft. The second week was blissfully peaceful and tranquil with excellent walks straight from the site. I'm sure we will be back again.
Little disappointed that we had work men for three days of our holiday. Internet needs improvement. Otherwise a nice stay
Grassholme is a wonderful cottage in an amazing place. Every detail has been thought of in providing guests with comfort and all the things needed for a lovely holiday My one problem, as last year, is that the cobwebs and spiders are not removed from the cottage on a regular basis. We all get spiders in our homes and they produce cobwebs but the cleaning should include removing these. Thanks. We will be returning next year.
We stayed here for three nights and were extremely comfortable. The pictures on the website don't do the house justice at all, which may explain why it was still available when all other similar places were booked up. The house is extremely spacious and was enjoyed by my very elderly parents who were particularly delighted with the choice of bath or shower.
This lovely cottage provided the perfect get away for our weekend in the lakes, surrounded by lush countryside!
Lovely cottage and great location. We had an amazing week at the Lake District with great weather! It’s the 3rd time we’re staying at Graythwaite Estate and still loving it.
Lovely clean and tidy cottage with great walks, nice walk to pub 30 minutes away and also only a short walk to the ferry and Windermere, at around 55 minutes. Everything very close and easy to get to. We also went to archery lessons, two mins down the road, Mark, out host was superb and all four of us enjoyed the session. Hawkeshead village is also well worth a short drive, lots of shops and places to eat and drink.
We hired Hullet Hall as an 'overspill' from the party of guests staying mainly at Silverholme Manor for a special birthday weekend celebration with family and friends as the cottage is a short walk up to the main house. It's in a delightful position right by the lake and I would happily go back there again for a general holiday stay. Not sure the hot tub is that much of an asset - idea is nice but too much of a faff to get going as wood fired. See also my review of Silverholme Manor for the same occasion.
Family break between Xmas and new year lovely cottage, well equipped very comfortable, and clean beautiful location
After the pandemic, we booked 4 holiday cottages (Thirlmere, Windermere, Buttermere, and Derwentwater) and my extended family enjoyed an amazing time together. There was so much to do locally and we made the most of the activities on offer with Graythwaite Adventure (Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery, Stand-up Paddle-boarding, Kayaking.) We also enjoyed a day at Esthwaite and saw the ospreys diving which was spectacular - lovely cafe there too. Go Ape at Grizedale was a short drive away - and the roads on this side of Windermere were relatively quiet. Lovely walking from the doorstep was enjoy...more
We have been staying in this house for many, many years and absolutely love it. The location is unique and cannot be bettered. The cost is now very high so expectations are likewise very high. It wasn’t as clean as it should be and the plumbing is not effective. Maintenance came out and said would return but didn’t. The kitchen emails inadequate for 10 people.
This was our second stay in Graythwaite cottages. Very enjoyable and comfortable. We would like to thank Marina, Lesley and Matt for all their assistance in helping make our stay. It would be really helpful to have a pack of the manuals for the cottage equipment(cooker, dishwasher, TV and video), I shouldn't have to search for them online!
Taps in the bathroom unstable and wobbly. Fridge was leaking on the floor on arrival - we tried to fix it but not sure if it's at the temperature it's supposed to be. Freezer door on the top is ripped off which may be source of the problem? Everything else was great, we love our stay and the few little details are worth it for the location.
A nice location for exploring the area and also a lot nice walk from your door step. A nice farm shop next door where can find a lot things with very helpful lady's
This was our second stay at Windermere and it never disappoints. Lovely little cottage in a peaceful setting with comfy beds and sofa. Clean and tidy with everything you need. Cleaning staff and maintenance team are superb and attend to any request you have. Already booked for Xmas and booking for summer next year also! Thank you again for a wonderful stay
Graythwaite is described on the web site as ‘a luxury holiday’. The estate was delightful and well placed for the southern lakes and Hawkeshead area of the Lake District. Unfortunately our experience of Grubbings was not at all luxurious. We found Mould on some of the bedroom walls, kitchen appliances that were broken, and a heating system that failed to warm the accommodation adequately. All of the storage radiators had broken controls and could not be adjusted. The staff tried to help with 2 extra electric heaters and more duvets and eventually supplied a additional toaster to replace the br...more
Hazelseat House is extremely comfortable accommodation in a stunning setting. We had everything we needed to enjoy a self catering holiday. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you require. The views from the house are beautiful and there is plenty of seating in the patio area. The family enjoyed the hot tub and the barbecue.
This is our 7th stay here and it such a perfect location. For us and the dogs. Nice an peaceful while the other side I’ve Windermere is full of people. Great walks on your door step. So you can just leave the car and explore.
We had a great stay at this cottage. Well equipped. The location is fantastic, right next to the pool and amenities. The walking from the house is also great. Only improvements would be that the sofas are comfy but tired and the master bed is too soft and squeaky!
This was a comfortable cottage but it doesn’t have a particularly homely/cosy feel. Gas fire didn’t work, no wood fire. Kitchen had the basics but no more. Beds very comfortable, lovely views. Very easy access to the water - 200m walk - which was great for paddle boarding. It’s about a 10 minute drive to the pool (which is excellent) and definitely not cycling/walking distance with young kids due to the distance/hill. The property is semi-detached and the attached cottage looks very run down/derelict. The cottage is also next to some derelict farm buildings which somewhat spoils the vie...more
Had a wonderful week here end of March, staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Great to have access to the swimming pool. We stayed in the ground floor apartment Bassicks which was beautiful and suited our needs well my only comment would be that if you enjoy a long lie in in the morning, it might be better to avoid the ground floor apartment. The sound proofing is excellent, couldn’t hear any conversations, but if there are early risers above the vibrations of the patter of tiny feet or 4 paws above first thing , in the morning , may detract from the tranquility for some
We had a wonderful weekend away and will definitely be going back! Perfect for families and children and my daughter loved the sheep nearby! Would highly recommend to anyone.
The property was in very good condition with all facilities that you could possibly want including TWO fridge freezers! There were enough plates, cutlery etc to feed the 5000! However a lack of roasting tins made improvisation necessary. It was very spacious with two large comfy seating areas, log burner, good lighting and parking right outside. Shop was very close by and had a good range of essential and non-essential items. The delivery of chilled items for our arrival was very useful and the courtesy bag of goodies much appreciated. The swimming pool was very convenient but reportedly rathe...more
The location is outstanding. The apartment is near beautiful Esthwaite water and there is a wide variety of lakeshore, forest or fell walks in the surrounding area directly from your doorstep. The apartment was very clean and extremely comfortable, especially the beds. The kitchen was clean and well equipped in terms of crockery and utensils. However there is no dishwasher and the fridge is very small and hard to access. This is more of an apartment than a cottage but it has character with its thick walls and arched windows. While the windows on the outside could do with a paint, the insid...more
Bassenthwaite is in an exceptional location, near to both Ambleside and Windermere. It’s surroundings are beautiful and features some lovely local walks where you can take in the countryside views and nearby wildlife. We stayed here late June with a 3 year old, please bear in mind this property does not have (as currently advertised on the website): - A dishwasher - Small freezer space in fridge Being the ground floor apartment you can also expect to hear some noise from the above apartments, this includes heavy footsteps, doors shutting, toilets flushing and other people’s conversati...more
This site was booked based on a previous stay at Grubbings 10 years ago, booked alongside Bassicks as we met with family on our only stay away this year. We had a great time 10 years ago and as such we were looking forward to this stay prior to arrival. Upon arrival, the first thing we noticed as we entered the property was the distinctive aroma of a nursing home, don't' get me wrong, I don't have anything against nursing homes in general, I just didn't pay to be staying at one on this occasion. It was then that our eyes were met by what one can only describe as drastically dated decor that...more
