Keepers Cottage is bursting with history, having played a vital role on the Estate over the last 500 years. Today, the cottage has been lovingly renovated. The log burner and outdoor kennels however, are two features which have stood the test of time. For fishing fanatics, Graythwaite’s 2.5 acre fishing tarn is a stone’s throw away. For runners, walkers and cyclists, there are miles of on and off-road routes to discover the Lake District from on Keeper’s Cottage doorstep!

We stayed at Keepers Cottage for Christmas with my sister and her family and we couldn’t have wished for anywhere better. The cottage is in a beautiful location with walks straight from the doorstep. We were provided with a Christmas tree and lights, plenty of wood for the fire and the cottage itself is beautiful, clean and homely. Booking the swimming pool was easy and straight forward and the pool itself was clean and warm, my son loved it! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anybody wanting a holiday that really takes you away from it all, such a peaceful and memorable holiday. Thank you, we will be back!

The house couldn't have been more perfect for our us. We needed a place that would accommodate up to 8 people for a business trip. It was comfortable, clean and well equipped in a great location. The estate staff were very helpful when we needed to extend our stay at the cottage.

Pros:
The house was in a beautiful location, we would return for the location.
The log burner was really nice.
The property was spacious with pretty rooms.
The beds were really comfy.
It was a lovely little walk down the hillside to the swimming pool.
The staff who we had contact with were were friendly and helpful.

Cons - overall maintenance was poor:
Swimming pool needs a clean - The walls at the far end had green mould on them and the children told us that when they looked underwater, there were loads of hairs in the bottom of the pool.
There were several dead flies in the house upon arrival which we hoovered up ourselves. Also, there was no dust bag in the hoover so it leaked dirt.
When we arrived the boiler wasn't working - it wouldn't switch on initially, and then wouldn't switch off. I called to report the issue and maintenance came and sorted it the following day.
The tumble drier filter was completely clogged, I had to clean it myself as it was a fire risk. It still only tumbled cold so didn't dry anything. I reported this but it wasn't fixed.
When the bath wasn't draining, we discovered that the bath plug was utterly full of hair and slime - we took pictures!
There were only two small logs provided for the log burner.

Lovely cottage in quiet spot, with lovely view. Good location for heading into Windermere via the ferry and easy drive up into Ambleside and beyond. Plenty of room for two families. Nice to have the shop, office and pool close by too

Stayed in Keepers Cottage for a Family Party at Low Greythwaite Hall. Very well equipped house with great accessibility including 2 ground floor bedrooms and a bathroom (we have 1 disabled child and worked well for him). Lovely walks around the fishing lake and easy to get to Home Farm complex for swimming pool. Interesting old kennels out the back and lots of character, but all mod cons. Very nice stay.

Keeper's Cottage was a good place for our reunion. It's a house with spacious rooms and elegant features and plenty of parking. The double log burner was a great idea - keeping both dining area and lounge warm and cosy. The walk down to the rest of the estate to see the hall and other historic buildings was interesting.
Suggestions for improvement - lose the plastic plants! We all thought they were unpleasant and unnecessary. Also, the paintings of Africa on the walls seemed very odd, given that we had come to enjoy being in beautiful Cumbria. One bedroom had a Lake District photo and that was a lot more appropriate for the location. The old dog pens behind the property were a bit grim and maybe there are plans to get rid of them at some point? The tranquil lake in front was a much better outlook. Overall we had a really good stay and would certainly consider coming again. It's a great house for a group of people with plenty of room and the large comfortable lounge is a real asset.

Three families with kids shared Keepers cottage for our new years break and it was great accommodation for us. We had two small needs (extra z- bed / small leak) for ‘housekeeping’ and they came pretty much immediately even with it being a bank holiday weekend. We made use of the swimming pool and a beautiful walk, while we were there. The cottage was perfectly clean and really warm. It was so handy to have a washing machine with a number of little ones in our groups.

The cottage is in a remote but beautiful location. The only thing we didn’t love was the colour of the water but we were assured that this was perfect safe!

We had such a wonderful stay at Keepers Cottage. We were two families with young toddlers and the house was perfect for us all. It was exceptionally clean and well presented on arrival. There is plenty of space to cook and eat together, and for the children to play. And very importantly for us - the beds are comfy, the bedrooms have plenty of storage space for a longer stay and the showers are great! The location of the cottage on the estate is just perfect to enjoy the tranquility of the area yet just a few minutes from the main courtyard and shop. There is also a wonderful pub with great food just a 15 minutes drive away. We are definitely planning a return visit some time in the future.

Great stay, excellent week, good location, well equiped.
Could do with king size bed in place of the double.
The only bath was in the ensuite bathroom which made bath time
with multiple children of different ages and different bedtimes difficult.
Outside tap would be useful with muddy boots and a muddy dog.
House has smart TV but the broadband was so weak we couldn't
use it, it wouldn't stream, so perhaps upgrade this or provide a DVD player.
All in all an enjoyable week.

Once again an excellent holiday on the Graythwaite Estate. Keepers cottage gave us a great base for our holiday and provided enough room for 7of us.
The activities on offer were so well organised, easy to book and very flexible. Simon and Ollie could not have been more helpful and kind to our grandchildren and made all activities fun for them.
If there is a small criticism I would say that the cottage is looking a bit tired. It could do with an upgrade and decoration- especially some of the internal windows and a bit of cobweb removal would not come amiss. Outside gravel could do with weeding!
But we have re booked for next year in a lakeside property and the small criticism should not prevent anyone from booking the cottage which is in a beautiful setting on a well run estate.

I stayed at Keepers Cottage with a group of friends and we universally fell in love with it. The house was beautifully presented, clean and very comfortable. The location was fantastic for those wanting to get away from everything and have some real peace and quiet. The nearby tarn was a joy to wander to and Lake Windermere was a more strenuous walk away but just as beautiful. The house is isolated so not for those wanting shops or a pub within walking distance but perfect for our needs.

The house is in such a quiet beautiful location. We really enjoyed the Fisheries across the road. My granddaughter feel in love with the swan. The swimming pool was wonderful, and lovely

The house outside has great parking. There is a fire pit, which we used and was enjoyed by young and old. There was a bunker with wood for the fire too. The table and benches
were a good size for our party of nine. Some additional more comfortable seating would have been welcome and some kind of shade, as we were fortunate in that we had some lovely sunny days. My grandchildren were fascinated by the cages at the back of the house.

The house inside was fine. Plenty of room for everyone. Some of the single beds were a bit too soft and bedside tables in all rooms are an essential for us. The bedding was good cotton.

The kitchen was well equipped with a built in fridge and a separate fridge freezer. Generally the house required some basic maintenance. Some painting, plumbing - some taps moved around, windows couldn’t be latched open.

We had an issue with water supply. Graythwaite customer service was quick, helpful and did everything they could to sort it out.
We were very impressed with their response, if only all issues in life could be dealt with so professionally.

Overall it was a wonderful holiday for 9 to 80 year olds. Highly recommend

Really nice cottage, suited our two families with small children really well. A pity there's not more outdoor space and presumably, there was once a path from the cottage to the main courtyard - would be nice if that could be reinstated. But overall a great holiday cottage.

Ideal for a large group who like a peaceful location.

Through no fault of the staff our bags were lost by the airline. The office were helpful as we had to get the bags dropped there by the courier service. After we had already left for the next leg of our vacation and been on the road for 3 hrs we got a call from the office saying that our bags had been dropped off the day before but they didn’t tell us.

I don’t think I need to say anything else.

Lovely house in a beautiful, remote location, great for exploring the lakes. Pool great and kids loved it. There is a shop on site but the selection available is very limited. House is well equipped and comfortable and bedrooms large. The kitchen is relatively small for a house for 10 occupants. Some of the mattresses are fairly new, however others need changing as are not very comfortable.

Keepers Cottage is a lovely, comfortable, private house in a very pretty and peaceful location. It was perfect for our family. The house has spacious and comfortable bedrooms and lounge/dining area.
The only thing lacking is a gate at the front of the property to prevent dogs from escaping.

Keepers Cottage is a large comfortable place on its own plot with plenty of parking available, so perfect for large family groups, or if you have friends along.

This was my first time staying on the Graythwaite Estate, so I was a little bothered that it would be too isolated, but in the end those concerns were unfounded. It was really nice to be able to go on a variety of walks without having to drive anywhere, and the facilities at home farm and the various Graythwaite Adventure sites were super handy.

We had six people staying in the cottage, and I think it would cope well with the full complement of ten. There was plenty of space for meals around the huge dining room table, and when blessed with good weather the outside dining and BBQ were nice too.

For dinners out both the Swan Inn at Newby Bridge, and the Cuckoo Brow at Far Sawry proved to be excellent.

Make sure to have some tick tweezers handy. Our dog was picking up a handful every day, and I had to remove three from myself.

WiFi was fine for checking email, but the ADSL line behind it isn't really up to streaming video, especially when things get busy in the evening.

I had no hesitation in booking for another year. I've always loved the Lakes, and this is the best place I've ever stayed.
