Can Brow is perfect for two. This very pretty, romantic cottage situated on the edge of lovely woodland is snug and homely. Located in the central courtyard, you will be less than a mile from the shores of Lake Windermere and within easy reach of our fabulous facilities.

The cottage was lovely and cosy, stay for 8 nights, very reasonable price. WiFi was a bit hit and miss but they did sort that out, no phone signal but quite nice to switch off from your phone. Used swimming pool, very clean and nice and warm. Nice walks around the estate.would definitely go back.

Another wonderful stay on the Graythwaite Estate, this is my 4th visit in the last 2 years. A different cottage each time, all have been very clean and comfortable. The staff are there if you need them but not in your face. Everyone you meet is very friendly. The farm shop is well stocked but no open every day out of season. Hawkeshead is good for the basics when shop not open. The Cuckoo Brow in is well worth a visit.
As a single woman travelling alone the accommodation, surrounding area & facilities are 2nd to none.

The property is in if course a gorgeous location. Unfortunately there is mould on the curtain covering the front door and the window reveal in the bathroom. The water runs brown no matter how long you run it for and there are rats in the ceiling - with the ceiling being wooden, and us having a dog, meant for a very disruptive stay, especially through the night.
If these things were addressed I wouldn't hesitate to return and recommend to others, but in the current state it's in I couldn't recommend it.

Lovely little cottage with a great location. The highlight of our trip was having the swimming pool right next to us in the court yard. It was a lovely warm pool on the Tuesday but Thursday's session it was cold and I had to take the baby out of the pool early as she was shivering.
The cottage had everything we needed but the water was very brown therefore we went out and bought bottled water for drinking. Overall, it was very clean, just some staining under the dressing table as if someone had spilt a drink and the door curtain was moldy, it could benefit from a deep clean.
Despite the niggling little problems we overall enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

I loved my stay at the Graythwaite Estate (Can Brow Cottage). The cottage was perfectly formed for 2 adults and two dogs. I loved stepping out of the front door straight onto the estate of Graythwaite with my 2 dogs. The walks were amazing and it is breathtakingly quiet everywhere.

The cottage was incredibly well-equipped. It had a brand new washing machine/dryer, full sized dishwasher, and all the other useful kitchen appliances you would enjoy at home.

You are also very close to Ambleside and Windermere and National Trust houses so there is plenty to do just a short drive away. The little shop was also very well stocked although it wasn't open every day probably due to the time of year we stayed.

I do have 2 points that I would like to raise however; 1 is there is no phone signal or WIFI anywhere in the cottage. I had to keep going outside as far as the laundry room (not far) to get any signal and I had to do this because my mum is disabled and I needed to make sure she was ok.

The second point is that because I guess Graythwaite is a typical English estate they breed pheasants for shooting. There were hundreds of baby pheasants (they hadn't even grown their tail feathers) running around everywhere. I know that shooting begins usually in October and runs until end of February. So if hearing/witnessing baby pheasants being used as target practice is not your thing then don't stay at Graythwaite during these months.

Apart from that, I would definitely return.

In general it was brilliant & the property was superb with everything you could need. Fortunately my wife & me are not Wi Fi nerds which helped as it was dreadful & I think we only had about two days of connection. Should have booked the swimming pool every day as it was very little used. Will contact Graythwaite directly where the lady we booked with was a credit to their organisation over a couple of niggles which i won’t make public on this review.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but as you’ve asked repeatedly here’s an honest appraisal.

It was nice of you to leave some coffee and biscuits and the place was clean and the kitchen well equipped. Freddie was friendly, but couldn’t actually tell us which cottage was ours. Nice guy though.

The cottage was damp and smelt a bit of dogs, the windows didn’t open easily and the water in the bath tub was brown.

Given it was self catering and we had to provide our own food, I felt the price poor value for two nights.

The swimming pool was a nice touch and the estate itself is beautiful. We can hardly hold you responsible for the torrential rain!

Why call it the honeymoon suite when it’s just a cottage with a double bed?

Enjoyed our stay in Can Brow. It is very well equipped and surprisingly spacious for a small cottage. We stayed on site with friends and family for wedding at Silverholme Manor (20 - 25 mins walk away). Handy to shared facilities and to have the farm shop on site but watch opening times! Lovely views in all directions.

Very comfortable cottage and excellent pool. As there are no shaver points, providing a 2 pin adaptor would be a good idea. Bring your own milk, £3.50 is very steep mark up in the shop!

Can Brow is a delightfully compact home which has been ideal for us. The neighbouring swimming pool has been a godsend after long hikes and the local estate an essential for shorter dog walks, despite it currently having poor mobile phone reception.

We had a short break at Can Brow cottage ….. very cute for a couple
and had everything we needed.
Welcome pack was a lovely touch.
We had friends stopping at The Bill Pen Cottage for a 60th weekend break, so we used the swimming pool twice which was great.
We booked the 4x4 off roading for 12 of us, it was great with fantastic instructors.
We would all book again and have intentions of doing, all 12 of us loved it

Having been invited to our nephew's wedding in January we were a little wary that the weather would be bad and we would be in a cold cottage. Not so the cottage was cosy and warm. Well stocked and the facilities excellent. The sun even came out on the big day. Would recommend this venue for two people.

The location was superb. I have visited the Lake District many times, but the area between Hawkshead and Newby Bridge was previously unknown to me. The site was well kept and well lit after dark.

We booked Can Brow for a romantic two night pre-Christmas break. We arrived in the snow to find matches and fire lighters for the log burner. However, no logs were to be seen. It subsequently transpired that, contrary to what appeared on the Graithwaite website, logs had to be purchased. The problem with this was that the on-site shop, which sells the logs, was closed for our visit. The house was cold and even running both the wall heaters full on we could not bring the temperature to a level at which it would be comfortable to remove our coats! After a chilly night, there were no spare blankets, and the bathroom too cold, the towel rail never became more than lukewarm, to make more than the most perfunctory wash possible, we decided to cut our losses and head for home. On top of this, the fridge was found to be full of water and the flush on the toilet was on its last legs.

This was my 4th stay at Can Brow and I like it more every time i stay.
The cottage has been updated this year and is lovley especially the refirbished kitchen
I shall definatly be returning next year .

We stayed with our 7 week old baby and the cottage was perfect. The site is great and we were able to book the pool privately twice during our stay which was a brilliant perk! The cottage is beautiful with lots of walks on the estate. Highly recommend

Another lovely, relaxing visit to the beautiful Graythwaite estate, our fifth in 2 years. Can Brow is a small but fully equipped cottage, the updated kitchen now includes a washing machine which is great. We have stayed in other, larger properties when family were with us, they are all decorated and equipped to a high standard.
A couple of small requests ahead of us visiting Can Brow again. The bath plug needs replacing as it leaks water spoiling a long soak. Also, the pillows are a bit firm for us!
Otherwise, we really enjoyed our visit again with our small daschund and we definitely be coming back.

We stayed in Can Brow with a dog and a baby. It was a bit of a tight squeeze but the cottage had everything you’d need and the pool / play park were great additions. The farm shop is a lifesaver and the staff are super friendly.

A very enjoyable stay with everything we could have hoped for. A very comfortable and clean cottage. Lots of walking to be had without leaving the estate which is just what we wanted. The swimming pool was a delightful bonus especially with the hot weather.

We had a very happy couple of weeks in Can Brow which was everything we could have asked for - and more as the washing machine was an unexpected bonus. One week was loud, lively and fun-packed with our family and friends during which we particularly enjoyed the swimming facilities, outside communal barbecues and eating areas and proximity to Lake Windermere, where we could use various registered watercraft. The second week was blissfully peaceful and tranquil with excellent walks straight from the site. I'm sure we will be back again.

What a great little cottage on the estate for us and our 2 dogs. A compact cottage but with all the necessary bits and pieces. The farm shop on-site is a god send. Very quiet with some lovely walks on the doorstep. Would recommend.

An excellent, quiet location recommended by a friend, and living up to his description. Remote from villages and restaurants. There was a generous welcome pack of high-quality groceries and the kitchen was fully equipped. The bed was comfortable, bathroom & shower were fine. Chairs were creaky and bathroom fan switched on but did not switch off until a high switch was located. There was an excellent reading light. We enjoyed walking through the grounds and over to the shores of Windermere. Shop lady was very helpful.

The cottage is cozy and very comfortable. The courtyard charming.

For the life of me I could not work out how to switch the oven on. The hob was ok. I am sure it is easy when you know how but if you do not know how then some decent instructions would be useful.

We were pleased with the cottage, which was just right for 1 or 2 people and well equipped.
Good system for using the pool as by booking you have it to yourself. Enjoyed walks from the cottage on the vast and beautiful Estate.
