Passed down from generation to generation, Hutton John Estate is a family-owned collection of luxurious accommodation. Situated in a quiet corner of the northern Lake District, join us to unwind within nature. Striking the balance between heritage and contemporary living, our cottages and cabins are just a stone's throw away from Ullswater. Spend the day adventuring in the Lakes and return to a nook of luxury where you can relax in complete privacy.
Wherever you choose to stay, there will always be a warm welcome, personal service and thoughtful touches throughout their visit.
This was our third visit to the Hutton John Estate and our second time staying at the Gardner’s Bothy. We love the cottage and the walled garden as it is so relaxing and beautiful. Our dog, Rocky, was clearly glad to be back in his happy place and soon made himself at home. As always we were kept well informed by Kate via email before we arrived with information about places to visit and eat out. We are already thinking about booking our next visit to the Hutton John Estate.
What a fantastic property that gave us everything we needed. From booking to staying communication was excellent and by far the best property we have stayed in the Lake District. We were a group of 10 and it met every need we had, close to some lovely walks and to visit all the Lakes. Also fantastically clean and a lovely welcome pack was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend
We selected this property because it is a traditional cottage in a location half way between Norfolk and Inverness. It turned out be perfect, cleanliness was excellent, a slightly knocks and crannies type house which suited us. Easy access to Ulswater and Pooley Bridge and only a couple of minutes from the Horse and Farrier pub with good food and a classic country pub.
Our host provided us with everything we needed and the Red Squirrels were on hand to enjoy the Hazel nuts. Peaceful, pretty and perfect. We may well pay a return visit.
This is the second time we have stayed at the Highgate cabins. The cabin was clean, well presented and the location is perfect. Just a short drive from Pooley Bridge and Ullswater.
The hot tub is just what we needed after a long day walking. Very relaxing with wonderful views.
The welcome basket is very thoughtful and filled with local produce.
We will definitely book again
We stayed in the Yew Tree cabin, it was very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. The kitchen was well equipped but could have done with a 2 person cafetière. Lovely soft towels and robes were provided along with a very nice bathroom. The bed is massive, so no problem spreading out. The lounge area was nice and comfortable too. The hot tub was very pleasant once heated, it takes about 2 hours to get to temperature, but be careful not to put to much wood in as this keeps heating when you are sat in the tub and can become very hot. One possible addition we could have done with was a clothes airer t...more
Lacet Cottage is a lovely cottage in an excellent location. The cottage is close to the A66, giving easy access to the northern lakes and the Eden Valley. The cottage is generally well equipped, but more crockery and bakeware would be useful. On the whole it is very good value for money.
Bed very comfy and the shower was great. Car parking good with no noise from the A66. Good view from the Viewing Gallery despite Storm Floris.
Kitchen window and Bathroom window too high to operate. Consider provision of a step up.
Bathroom - ladder rack style towel rail may look nice in Country Life magazine but it is useless. Should be replaced with hot water towel rail as the towels were never dry.
Bathroom - toilet brush is useless and the handle repeatedly fell off the cleaning rod. Stain on the underside of the seat cover.
Bedroom - lack of storage space so we ended up living out of...more
Lovely location
The cabin was compact and warm comfortable and clean. Flies a bit of a nuisance so kept windows and doors shut, but to be
expected in warm weather and on the edge of a woodland. That aside we would defiantly return maybe spring or early autumn
