This is the second time we have visited The Steadings and we are already planning our third visit. We arrived to some lovely welcome gifts (Fresh Northumberland coffee, Beers, jam, chutney and biscuits) which were all locally sourced. The accommodation is extremely clean and well kept. It is like a home away from home.
Amazing apartment. We hired all 7 for the wedding party and every apartment was beautiful. Great for our wedding day.
Super property, beautifully designed in a great setting. Well appointed and ideal for a couple for a short stay.
Great appartment (6) and location. All modcons were there. Everything in Hexham within walking distance. Highly recommended.
Our time at West Grange Hall was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful surroundings, beautiful grounds, and the characterful charm of the house itself. Every detail had been thoughtfully considered, creating a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We especially loved the garden views and the serene atmosphere—ideal for a restful escape from the city. The hosts were incredibly responsive and went out of their way to ensure we felt com...more
This is the 7th time we've stayed in the beautiful restored Hexham House overlooking the stunning gardens and bowling green of the park. As usual very high standards of cleanliness are maintained and the apartment contains everything you need for a wonderfully comfortable stay. We always stay a week as there is SO much to do in the surrounding area either walking, cycling, public transport or in the car. Sam and Vicky of Wooden Star cottages do a fantastic job, always easy to contact and the bag of local treats is also welcome. Thanks ladies and looking forward to our 8th stay!! ⭐️
We had a fabulous stay, very impressed with the renovation and decor. The property is well equipped, beds were firm but comfortable, decent pillows and great towels! We particularly liked how everything was good quality and of a high standard. We had a small issue on arrival but the team dealt with this promptly and efficiently. Would definitely stay here again and at their other properties.
Where to start! We hired Beaufront Castle through Woodenstar Cottages for our micro-wedding on 14/05/2025, and it was nothing short of magical. The castle itself is absolutely stunning – a gothic masterpiece nestled in the Northumberland countryside, full of history, character, and charm. Our group consisted of bride and groom plus 14 of Ur closest family and friends, all of which were comfortably accommodated in the castle’s eight beautifully appointed bedrooms. Each room was unique, massively spacious, and immaculately presented – you truly feel like royalty staying here! The views over t...more
Our second visit and as good as the first. Great facilities with a room and en-suite each and plenty of room for socialising, cooking and eating together. Couple of points: The downstairs toilet in Steadings 2 doesn’t flush properly. Heaters in The Byers 1 & 2 need attention as not all were working. Mirrors in bedrooms for hair drying etc would be helpful. We loved it again. And we even got the dark skies too!
We really enjoyed the off grid location with superb views and lovely walks. The cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped. Extremely relaxing too!
The Coach House offers immense character, comfort and a beautiful location, a few miles from Kielder Water and Forest in what for the UK, is a remote corner of Northumberland. The lovely owners are close by, supportive but not intrusive and the house provides space for up to 6 people. Huge walled garden ideal for the most active of dogs. The nearest shops and eateries are a couple of miles, although we went further afield to eat. Bouchon Bistro in Hexham is a must and Bewicks in Rothbury if you venture to Cragside (NT). Walking/cycling locally, sailing on Kielder Water and within easy re...more
Stayed 2 nights in the Steadings with 2 couples, 3 kids aged 9 to 13. The linked cottages filled the bill as it was roomy, well equipped and quiet. The Boe Rigg restaurant and pub on site was great too as was the craft/ gift shop.
Three families on our annual getaway together. We normally travel to the Lakes, the highlands or Wales, but fancied somewhere different this year. Hollin House ticked all the boxes. If you’re looking for somewhere touristy close to towns, shops and restaurants then this isn’t the place for you. If you prefer serene comfort situated miles down single track lanes where sheep and cows wander aimlessly, where the evenings are filled with bats, owls and billions of stars, then you couldn’t ask for a better location. We will, without question, be back!
Hexham house is a beautiful place to stay, we stayed in apartment 3 which was clean, tidy, modern and with all amenities we could need. The apartments had views of the garden and close to local shops.
Everything required for a comfortable stay. Even a slow cooker, and set of kitchen scales so I was able to do some baking.
Beautiful place in a perfect location, very clean and even a goodie bag on arrival. The communication went smooth and I would highly recommend Thanks Aden
We booked the Bridal suite Apartment 7 and what an amazing apartment it is. The suite is spotless in every aspect, appointed to a very high standard of quality. The beds are super comfortable and gave a great nights sleep. Fully equipped kitchen, lounge area with lovely furnishings and TV. Bathroom gave a choice of Shower or Roll top bath. We can’t recommend this apartment highly enough, a true gem of a find . Thank you Hexham House.
We stayed at the Woodworkers cottage for a long weekend in December. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and found the owners to be very accommodating for us, providing stair gate and high chair. The cottage was nicely furnished and had a log burner with wood and firefighters provided. We would definitely look to stay again when we next visit Northumberland.
lovely location in the shadow of Hexham abbey with excellent car parking facilities. Shower very small and rug in living room very stained.
Absolutely beautiful apartment, spotlessly clean throughout. Well appointed with every detail attended to, super comfy bed. The apartment is located in Hexham, a welcoming town with something for everyone. Private parking was very useful with the parking permit supplied.
This place was perfect for a chilled few days away. Our fur baby also loved it. Communication before and during our stay with Vicky and Sam was great and the information they send about the place and area is spot on! I even managed to extend my stay with no issues! There’s a Lovely tea room just over the court yard with a gift shop and gallery and you can get beautiful food to eat in or takeaway from the restaurant down the gravelled path at the campsite. Can’t wait for my next visit x
We booked the cottages and big barn for a family celebration and it worked brilliantly. The kids and dogs could run around outside, the adults used the hot tubs. The party barn is excellent for outside caterers and a ceilidh. The setting is fantastic as is the location close to fantastic Northumberland scenery. Wooden Star were very helpful and easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend.
We had a fabulous stay at Drum Barn. It’s a great house in a beautiful location with everything that we needed. Plenty of bathrooms, very comfy beds and spacious cooking and dining areas. Would go again.
I booked this stay as it was near a wedding I was attending at nearby Hallington mill. Upon arrival we easily found the key and gained access up a small path. Near the door I thought the path could do with a bit of a clean as quite a bit moss was lying on it, just needed a bit of a brush down. The room looked nice on initially entering with stunning views but when you start to look around you see the poor cleaning. Huge cobwebs on the small spot lights that are dotted around, cobwebs hanging right above the bed on the wooden beams, a small hand brush was hanging on the wall and had obviously b...more
2 the Steading was a lovely comfortable home in a very peaceful country setting. The accommodation had everything we needed and more for a short break and the nearby Boe Rigg provided a lovely evening meal on our first night. Charlton is a lovely base, with lots to do nearby. Would love to return.
Superb, quiet rural location but with superfast internet. Wonderful house with lots of space for family of all generations to relax in. Loved having the grand piano to practice on. Fabulous showers - a real must for us! Kitchen and BBQ easily big enough for 10 of us and more, and nice raised beds in the kitchen garden to dip into for herbs and fresh mint tea. Incredibly helpful app for the property with lots of tips and hints for the local area. Having done similar breaks in New Forest, Jurrasic coast, Europe... can highly recommend Shellbraes.
No 2 The Byre was a wonderful quiet place to stay with my dog Norman. The accommodation had everything we needed and was peaceful and secure. Would definitely stay again.
The Stables is a very comfortable cottage in a great location. It was very peaceful and we looked forward to seeing the sheep and ducks when we opened the curtains each morning. It is within 30 minute drive of a number of Hadrian Wall attractions and Hexham which was worth a visit. The Welcome bag from Wooden Star Cottages was a nice surprise.
Lovely cottage in a fabulous location with great views and wonderful dark sky. Had a great break and would return.
We were in the area for a wedding so The Hayloft was an ideal place for our three families (8 people) to stay. Had everything we needed and is in lovely part of the country. WIFI wasn't great but that wasn't an issue for us (it may be for others). Would certainly return if the opprtunity arises.
