Gitcombe Retreat was just perfect for a family week away in November, when you are never quite sure what the weather will be. Our ages ranged from 3 months to 62 years and everyone's needs were completely satisfied and more. The interior and exterior of this building is superb, the kitchen well equipped, comfy beds and sofas, lovely decor throughout. Loved the indoor pool and play area, just yards from our house and the outdoor play area too. A great base for exploring the South Hams - not far from Totnes and Dartmouth and lovely walks along the River Dart with a 3 year old on a bike and a tod...more
We are a family of four (two sons aged 24 and 21) just returned from a wonderful peaceful week at Gitcombe. We stayed in the Coach House, which was the perfect size for us. The cottage was lovely, spotless, comfortable and of a very high standard. The kitchen had everything that you could need and we lit a cosy fire every night. We all loved the indoor pool, steam room and sauna and spent many hours in the outdoor hot tub gazing at the beautiful views and cows on the hill. The pool complex was like a luxury spa and super clean. It is amazingly quiet, with no distant road or airplane nois...more
We had a lovely week stay at Gitcombe. Pluses great facilities, lovely grounds, beautiful house which was very clean and comfortable. Towels and linen really nice. Very rural but still close to Dartmouth. Only slight negative is that the WiFi didn’t work in the property and little to no phone signal however, this was actually a real positive for us! Overall a wonderful stay and would come again
A wonderfull retreat, excellent for families with small kids. Our three girls enjoyed every minute of it. We had a blast and Peter and Emma are really friendly, hospitable hosts!
Perfect short break for 3 generations! Idyllically situated.Lots to do for 3 and 5 year olds and good walks for grandpa.
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Gitcombe. The grounds are immaculate and leisure facilities superb. The appliances in the kitchen were top quality. When paying for this kind of quality we expected some basics like tea and coffee and a little cooking oil to get us going. The floors could have done with a clean in our cottage. The heating / hot water system was very noisy in the middle of the night and woke us up each night as it appeared to click on and off - the system was adjacent to the bedroom. Not a problem if you are not a light sleeper! We would recommend and would return. Above comments are...more
We stayed at Gitcombe in Yannadon Barn for just 4 short nights in July 2019 - but what an amazing time we had! The site is so well kept, and our barn had everything that we needed - we even had our own private terrace to sit out on each evening. The indoor pool and hot tub where perfectly situated with views to die for, and we spent a couple of lazy mornings there, enjoying time to de-stress and unwind, chilling out with a good book in between a swim or two! The wonderful Maltsters Arms pub in Tuckenhay provided us with the best Sunday roast I think I have ever eaten, and it's perfect fo...more
Simply the best of the best. We’ve had a super family holiday (third) in this beautiful place and will return again and again. We all love Gitcombe.
We stayed in Haytor, Burrator and Gitcombe Retreat. Reviews separately on the other property sites. The overall setup for a relaxing time away is great-so long as you don't have to be permanently contactable. There is an excellent tennis court and 2 decent pools, see comments later. The accommodation is well appointed and (for the main couple) comfortable but there is not much space and the wifi and mobile reception were poor. The property Haytor is kitchen/diner/sitting area on the upper floor and 3 bedrooms downstairs. It is compact and rather tight for 6 (sleeps 2 adults in a double...more
