The Retreat at Gitcombe is a beautifully designed house, with fantastic views across the neighbouring countryside and the lovely sense of a secluded get-away. It's been furnished and decorated to a very high standard too. We also loved all the other facilities, especially the tennis court, basketball and swimming pool. All-in-all a great place to stay. We'll be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay celebrating ours sons 30th birthday with our whole family. We used the marvellous swimming pool every day, having it mostly to ourselves, walked into Tuckenhay along the river, used the spectacular dining room every night and visited some lovely local beaches and eateries. The house is a wonderful size for everyone to have their own space or all be together
Advertised as "in a world of its own" well what can I say - a hidden gem in a Devon valley. This is one of the best boutique holiday cottages I have staying for a very long time. Hidden away as you drive down the entrance to a cluster of different size cottages to suit all. Indoor and outdoor pools and much more for all the family. I'll be back
We loved staying at Gitcombe house. It is the perfect of both world in terms of location between countryside and seaside. The facilities are just amazing with indoor swimming pool, sauna and soft play area, jaccuzzi outside with stunning views, tennis court and playground. The kids loved it and parents too as you can definitely relax there. It is very welcoming and the scenery grabs you even before arriving just with the narrow country lanes. It is gorgeous and we had a fantastic time with the sun shining for 4 days on top of it!! Beautiful!
Gorgeous week in devon countryside. Coytage was perfect for the 4 of us to enjoy Gitcombe. Paraffin heaters were required fir a few nights as bedrooms were very cold but host was on hand to deliver. Cosy if 6 were staying. Will be going back as delightful house in a beautiful relaxed setting ideal holiday conditions
this is our 5th visit so fair to say we love the location and the children always meet friends (many also returners) to have fun with. Our first time in Haytor, the bedrooms were good but the living room was a bit cramped and the heating in the en-suit didn't work so was rather chilly. Otherwise nothing to fault, we love it!
We are a family of 4 and had a fantastic weekend. The cottage was beautiful and our children loved the pool and facilities. Many thanks.
The garden house provided an ideal layout.Little extras such as bath mats, mirrors in bedrooms and extra wall sockets are required.
Really nice location and Rodney, Peter and Emma very helpful, it felt like we were staying with relatives who kept a respectful distance but were on hand when we needed. Sauna and Steam room were an added bonus as was he unlimited wood for log fires. Whilst the weather wasn’t the best we had great time visiting local sights and keeping our active 4 year old amused. Local eateries Maltsters Arms and Rockfish had lovely local food. Nice touches in the cottage and a store cupboard with items such as tennis racquets, crabbing equipment and holiday essentials you usually forget meant a lot of thoug...more
