The River Waveney marks the border between Norfolk and Suffolk and Mendham Mill sits astride the river, surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful water meadows. Four award-winning cottages which include the stunning Georgian Miller’s House have been created from houses, a granary, and other estate buildings. The owners are on hand assisting visitors who wish to fish or make use of the canoes or rowing boat in the sparkling private waters of the river. With places like Southwold, Aldeburgh and Norwich all within easy reach Mendham Mill is ideally located.
We stayed at Mendham Mill over the new year for a relaxing break and it was perfect for our needs. My husband likes to fish whilst I just like to read and relax for a couple of days. Fishing was available virtually from the back door so we were able to keep in close contact. He caught 4 pike whilst I watched tv, read and chilled out in comfortable and well equipped surroundings.
My sister and I spent a week with Nick and James last week at their idyllic, peaceful home.
Our cottage was perfect for our needs and had everything you could wish for to hand.
We particularly enjoyed exploring Mill Cottage's garden which, even in mid-winter, is clearly a plantsman's paradise thanks to Nick's expertise and knowledge. The garden nursery he recommended we visit was a real find.
We will certainly be making a return visit at some point.
One feels welcomed by the owners and quickly 'at home' in the cottage where the beds and seating are very comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped. The well kept grounds are perfect for a stroll and one can spend ages watching the wild fowl on the mill stream. A very enjoyable stay.
