A lovely cottage in a quiet location,easy to find with the travel directions provided by Anne.everything provided that you would need for a short stay including wood for the wood burner,towels and bedding ect.it really is isolated so a car is a must ,with hartland village with its 2 shops and 3 pubs about 5 minutes drive away.saying that we did walk to hartland quay in about 45 minutes where there is a lovely pub with stunning views.would most definitely stay here again.
Absolute fantastic place to stay, great with the children, so much freedom would definitely recommend. The cleanliness was immaculate. We checked in for the long weekend and it was just spectacular! The location the views and above all the hosts. They made us feel at home and literally took care of us throughout. I would highly recommend this place for a short trip or even if you are looking to get married as they have done up their new barn now!
What an amazing time we had on our recent holiday In devon. This self catering accommodation was absolutely fabulous and we will definitely be returning. The location was brilliant. The views were incredible, the owners and the lady who works for them they were all absolutely brilliant with our whole family They looked after us so well and couldn’t do enough for us , the man even brought a little cow to see us and the children, it was just so lovely. This is our 6th holiday at Courtyard Cottage and it's still as good as the 1st time - lovely location if you want peace & quiet, everything you could think of is provided and although it's next to the owner's house the way it's laid out gives you total privacy. 3 patios around the cottage mean there is always somewhere to sit in the shade or sun depending on your preference. Owners are very discreet and you only usually see them if you go to their front door. We stayed at the Penthouse for a long weekend. It was a lovely location a short walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. Beautiful views of the sea, we could have stayed much longer. Absolutely loved the freshly baked scones left as a welcome gift with jam and clotted cream. Would definitely book again and highly recommend
Excellent accommodation with everything you would need for a break, if there is a negative, we stayed when the weather was particularly hot and the upstairs lounge, diner, kitchen was like a sauna, even first thing in the morning .There was a fan to help cool you down, but it was ineffective due to how hot the room was. The bedroom which was downstairs was lovely and cool which meant a good nights sleep was possible in a very comfortable bed.
Always a pleasure to visit it's like visiting friends.Lovely location which well suits my wife who has Parkinson's,great for Bob the dog who loves the orchard where you can sit quietly.Very welcoming and lovely owners Susan and Tom who are always there to supply every need.Pricr is right,it's spotless and has comfort of home.Thank you we of course will be back again!
My girlfriend, our dog, and I had a lovely stay in the Shepherd’s Shed. The views from both the shed and the balcony were amazing, and the cozy hot tub was perfect for the cold November nights. Once we got it up to temperature, it stayed hot for ages, so we even enjoyed a couple of morning dips! The Shepherd’s Shed is in the perfect location for exploring North Devon!! we went on some great walks and also enjoyed plenty of peace and quiet, which was exactly what we needed after a busy few months. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything you need. It is perfectly located in Combe Martin near to the beach and coastal paths.
Our stay at Ford Hill Cottage exceeded all our expectations. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The kitchen was large, well-equipped, and had everything we could possibly need during our stay. All the thoughtful extras were really appreciated - washing up liquid / dishwasher tablets etc. The well stocked welcome basket was especially appreciated. We had a lovely week in Painswick. The cottage is nicely secluded, but in easy walking distance of the amenities. The accommodation was very comfortable with all the equipment you would need. The outside area was plant and as the weather was good, we even managed to have breakfast at the patio table every day! My only gripe would be the TV as it was very limited on channels and slow. Not a major issue, and overall, a very plant place to stay and would recommend...
We stayed at Whitelady House as an extended family (three generations) over the Christmas period in 2025. This was our fourth time at Whitelady House, and we've been visiting on and off since 2012. Firstly, this is a fabulous location and house for exploring all that Dartmoor has to offer, and although many places were closed over Christmas, there was still plenty to do in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this very good flat with an excellent position close to a marvellous beach and the shops. Amanda soon sorted a slight issue about parking and we must thank her for that. The accommodation was very clean and well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, good cooker and plenty of utensils, plates and pots. brilliant location, 10 mins from saunton sands. super comfy bed. lovely views. only minus is a little more attention to detail cleaning corners and under bed. overall a fabulous stay nice touch having tea, coffee and sugar along with cling film, foil and washing up liquid.

We had a long weekend (Fri - Mon) to spend some quiet time away. The cottage had everything we needed. We had a supermarket delivery on the Friday evening to stock up and they had no problem finding the cottage. The accessible room on the ground floor was perfect for my needs, with a wet room style bathroom which made things nice and easy. It was peaceful and quiet and lovely views across the fields.
Lovely stay at Coachman’s, great instructions/directions. Property was spotless, very comfortable and just a few steps from the south coast path. Perfect
Staying in three cottages with family, we enjoyed the excellent facilities with good views. Well positioned to visit local beaches and the historic Hartland Quay as well as many others.
Set in the glorious rolling hills of North Devon. Comfortable and cosy. More attention needed to cleaning. Black dog hairs on sofa (we have a white dog and he wasn't allowed on furniture.) Lot's of cobwebs too.
This was our 2nd consecutive year. As good as last, and although building work started in field adjacent it didn't spoil our stay and owner advised us in advance. Only 10 min walk down a footpath to Readymoney Cove (dogs allowed all year except 10-6pmJuy &Aug). Comfortable corner sofa and beds. Shower mixer good. Friendly neighbours.

We had a wonderful holiday at Blare Cottage, the location is stunning, it’s fairly remote and down some very windy little roads but so peaceful and beautiful. There is loads of space for kids to run and play and a brilliant wooden play frame. The fishing lakes on site were a bonus too. The cottage itself is fairly compact and has all the basics you need for a week away, comfy beds, and nicely decorated. Our three generation family group ranged in age from 4 to 80, The downstairs bedroom with en-suite was perfect for myself and my husband. Our grandchildren loved the spacious outdoor playground. Parking for our 3 cars. Lovely well stocked kitchen with everything needed to cook our meals. We had beautiful weather and we found the downstairs area really cool in the heat. Perfect location with so much to do within a short drive. I would definitely recommend this property for a family holiday!
Absolutely stunning location with views across the fields to the estuary and beyond to Hartland Point. Evenings in the hot-tub, with a bottle of bubbly, love it. Cottage comfortable but lacking finer detail, e.g. the tv sited high on the wall , bit of a crick in the neck… bedroom and en-suite a bit tight for space, but certainly manageable, not a complaint, more an observation. The bbq I regret to say was a disappointment, obliged to give it a thorough cleaning before use, ( ensured it was clean on leaving.) and too small. A lovely place. Friendly hosts, beautiful views over the hills. Perfectly placed to be able to visit lots of places in North Devon and then come back to the hot tub, play pool and table tennis and sleep!! Prosecco an added bonus!
Everything nice but difficult to do something by feed. I would recomment the cottage to other guests.
Our fourth visit to Seagulls in St Mawes and yet again it didn’t disappoint. I always feel sad leaving this property as I know how much I will miss the magical view, wonderful walks and the peace and tranquility of such a beautiful location. Already looking to book again for next year
This is a great property with loads of character and staying here is a real traditional Highlands experience. It comfortably accommodates the maximum capacity and the kitchen is large and well equipped. The only slight drawback was that some of the mattresses could perhaps do with replacing and ideally there would be another walk in shower - although equally having the traditional baths was good. The location is good - a bit of a drive to most places but then you expect that in this area and the remoteness is part of the appeal. If you can fill it, the property is also very good value...more
A beautiful house in a quiet location with a perfect, secure garden ideal for dogs. The communication from Lisa, the house keeper, was brilliant. The village has 2 pubs within a short walking distance and the beach is 10 minutes walk away. Crantock is a lovely place in the summer but the quietness in the winter months and the great effort that is put into the village Christmas lights makes this a perfect spot for a winter break too.
Great house and location for big family group. Much improved parking since we were last there. Kitchen well equipped for large groups.

The property is truly impressive and has a stately charm that reflects its rich heritage. Most of the rooms are elegant, well maintained, and furnished with beautiful, classic furniture. The kitchen, with its AGA cooker, is simply amazing. It takes a little time to get used to, but when staying with a group of 14 people, it becomes a real highlight and makes cooking together a pleasure. The house was modern, spotlessly clean, plenty of room and the all kitchen appliances etc were of a very high standard. As it is a family holiday let the only negative for us was no stair gates were provided in the property and there were 2 flights of stairs so with a 1 and 3 year old we had to be extra vigilant. The cottage was beautiful inside and out, very spacious in every room, The only downside to us was the beds were not very comfortable, too hard (that’s our own opinion though ) Would still visit again though
The cottage was fine but a few tweaks are maybe needed to make it really nice. In the kitchen the cutlery was very light weight. There was a selection of glasses but only 2 small glasses. The lounge area could have done with a table or standard light rather than the central ceiling light. In the bathroom where was nowhere to put toiletries, a shelf or small unit would have been useful. The weather when we arrived was unseasonably cold and it was lovely to find the heating was on, so good for drying our towels. The cottage was nice,but dark inside always needed a light on in kitchen,very clean and comfortable beds very comfy only downside no mop and bucket no vacuum cleaner,nowhere to hang damp coats or damp towels, could do with some hooks at the back of the doors in bedrooms,but still enjoyed our stay.
We had the most wonderful stay at this cottage last week! The location is absolutely perfect—right by a small lake (fenced) with gorgeous views, yet still incredibly close to both the town and the beach. It is an absolute paradise for kids. The huge garden and playground kept them entertained, and they loved the free-range chickens! It truly is the ideal setup for a family getaway. Highly, highly recommended—we can’t wait to come back!
We loved our stay at Upper Instow Cottage and found it quirky and comfortable. 3 decent sized bedrooms with comfy beds, plenty of storage, a dining room (which we didn't use as it was lovely weather so we ate on the terrace), plenty of seating in the lounge and an entrance hall area which I wasn't expecting from the photos. It is an old building, so there are some imperfections but it is charming, clean and the view from the terrace is spectacular. The location is lovely - a stones throw from pubs and a beautiful sandy beach. A great base to explore North Devon.
We had a lovely stay! The house is in an idyllic location overlooking Ilfracombe. The location to the coastal path was perfect. We had an amazing weekend. Would definitely recommend this house for large groups. There was a mix up with the cot (it was missing); however, the house keeper team tackled it quickly and got us a new cot within the hour. This gave us a lot of confidence that any other issues would be dealt with quickly and efficiently. We had no other issues though! :)
We spent a fantastic week at Nuide House. There is so much to see in this area. The house is huge and it was great to have apart from the dining room another big room with the round table. So when playing games we couldn't finish on the evening, we could just leave everything until next day. The beds were very comfortable, the sofas in the living room not so much. The kitchen was very well equipped and big. We also had lovely barbeques outside. It was also very useful to have a wadjing machine. We would have appreciated it if there would have been a hair dryer. We would like to come again.
Stag Cottage was a wonderful base for Munro walking in the Achnasheen area. It is ideally placed within fabulous mountains, with good road access and close to excellent local facilities in Lochcarron. The cottage provided comfortable and spacious accommodation that suited the needs of a tired and wet group of friends for a week in June. Its clothes drying capabilities were sorely tested but came out with flying colours. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the property, but were disappointed with the following: 1. There was no salt or pepper in the kitchen. We have stayed in many cottages up an down the country over the past 5 years and have never had this experience. Apart from the salt and pepper, we usually find tea bags and coffee as well. The excuse given to us by the manageress was Covid. This is ridiculous. 2. There was no information regarding local places of interest, local pubs or restaurants, local shops or supermarkets. Toad Hall is a very old Lady and has its quirky bits like any property that has stood for so long, however this is truly part of its charm. We managed to arrive just as the house keeper was leaving so we were given a tour of the place, which was a kind and unexpected bonus! As a result we did not have to touch a thing, as everything from the heating to the freezer had been switched on. A comfortable property tucked out of the way in a quiet village just 10m drive from all the amenities of Barnstaple and 20/30 minutes from beaches of Saunton/ Croyde etc. Some nice walks nearby on an old disused railway line. The accommodation is converted farm buildings with an interesting layout that may not suit everyone because of the height changes, but if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing “inland” holiday this could fit the bill.
The cottage was attached to a grand building but with own gardens and a bench by the front door where I sat to watch the sunrise It was so peaceful. There was a footpath we walked along with birds singing and the varied foliage was amazing. The hosts were available by phone and very polite and helpful.
