The cottage is wonderful... everything you need is there and more... Standing between the "Old Inn" and the excellent "Lochbay Seafood Restaurant" owned by former chef of famous "Three Chimneys" Michael Smith doesn't hurt either ;-)
We spent a week at the Wing at Duirinish Lodge. The Wing is in an beautiful location and provides excellent accommodation with all amenities. With wonderful views overlooking Loch Carron and access to 18 acres of gardens, The Wing is a perfect location for relaxation and for exploring the Western Highlands. The traditional music sessions in Plockton, 2 miles way, were particularly enjoyable. The two comfortable and well-equipped summerhouses offer alternative locations for guests to relax, in our case, for writing and playing music. We could easily have spent longer at the Wing and highl...more
Excellant picturesque quaint cottage full of character in a great location with super views. The owners gave a warm welcome to us and our dog (Sky the rough collie) on arrival, tea, biscuits & chocolates which was a nice touch. The owners are only 5 minutes away so if theres any problems they can sort it quickly. Fortunately we didn't have any issues with the cottage or facilities so had no need to get back in touch with them. The garden is fully fenced off which means you can relax and leave your dog in the garden. Facilities inside the cottage are good, we had no issues and used the TV/DVD ...more
Flawless...faultless...perfect...100% recommend. Home from home has everything and more you would need. Well equipped and spotless. A beautiful little cottage in a beautiful location
We had a wondeful week at this cottage. It is a very nice, clean, comfortable, and peaceful cottage. It is in a very good condition. We slept like logs and had invigourating showers in the morning. It has wonderful views across the loch from the seating outside. We would spend the day watching the tide coming in and out, and watching the sheep as they formed lines as they wandered around at low tide. There is plenty to explore - a ruined church and graveyard up the track a bit, further up there is a fishermans hut. I walked around Glen Brittle forest. Graham cycled round it. Eynort is close t...more
This is a fabulous cottage, the views are stunning , the cottage is lovely every home comfort, lovely and clean, comfortable beds , roomy house, car parking , there is only one negative , you have to leave when your holiday over. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
We had just a lovely week at this fabulous cottage. The cottage is so very comfortable and has everything you could ever need while away from home. The location is wonderful and a great base to explore the best Skye has to offer. We would love to come back to this spot and we really didn't want to leave. It's a very special place.
Had a great week in the cottage. Plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 children. Lovely quiet location.
The apartment is cozy, well laid out, and has all of the comforts of home. The kitchen is well-stocked with utensils, pots, pans, etc, there's a nice large dining table for meals, the bathroom is huge and has a nice rain shower, and the bedrooms are quite comfy. It's just a short walk to the main square in Portree with restaurants and shops. This is great, but sometimes it means that other shoppers will use the unit's dedicated parking space during the day. We found that people would only occupy the space for a short time, so it was easy enough to park in the pay lot adjacent to the apartme...more
WOW! From the moment we walked through the door we were amazed. Of course the view is the center stage of this cottage but I can't say enough about how wonderful the unit itself is. They have done an excellent job of making a modern facility that is very complete. We had a very relaxing time enjoying the quiet comfort including a selection of music to add to the experience. One note for travelers is that it is remote so best to pick up a few supplies before reaching the island or go through Portree. We arrived a day late on Sunday and found many things closed but there was a convenience store ...more
A very pleasant stay here - well appointed and many nice homely touches. There is more than a surplus of cutlery and crockery. Comfortable beds. Very useful having two loos.
We had a wonderful stay at Tidal Cottage. It was a cosy retreat, perfect for us, with a view to die for. We loved the location of the cottage and the owner was very friendly. The only (slight) niggle for us was there wasn't a tumble drier which meant it was difficult for us to dry our wet walking gear and washing due to the bad weather. But this did not stop us loving our stay and we would love to return to Tidal Cottage one day.
4 of us had a fantastic week staying in Alderburn House in September. The house is very comfortable, well equipped and warm - the underfloor heating in the kitchen particularlly cosy, We appreciated the milk, hot drinks and biscuits left to welcome us. The walk to the Coop just a few mintues away was a pleasure with beautiful views out to the harbour below, and the Coop was well stocked with everything we needed. Plenty of places to eat out within easy walking distance. We enjoyed walks with stunning views both nearby and further affield. I particularly appreciated the help from Islands and...more
Perfect views. Friendly hosts. Comfortable croft. Would recommend it. Main food shops in portree. So stock up before you come to croft.
Laura
This lovely cottage was perfect for our one week stay. It was roomy, clean, and charming. Beautiful walks in the mountains and bus trips to Quiraing and Dunvegan Castle were our highlight. We did not have a car but we had a wonderful experience in the highlands. Highly recommend.
This cottage was well equipped and very comfortable and warm and definitely good value for money. It was a shame that the hedge was so tall that it blocked the stunning view if you were sitting down in the lounge or dining room! We also hadn't realised quite how long it would take us to drive to places from this end of the island, but that said, there is plenty to do on the Trotternish peninsula, especially if you like walking, and it was less touristy than some of the other parts so I would still heartily recommend it.
Really enjoyed my stay the owners made us feel very welcome. The cottage is 2 mins from the square in Portree . Recommended
We took both Alan's and sorley's cottages, they were perfect for our stay. However we only used Alan's house for sleeping and used sorley's far more often. But the cottages are almost identical, and are both lovely.
Large, modern house in excellent location between Dunvegan & Portree. Beautiful views over the Loch. House was clean, bright and warm. The upstairs hall looking over the bay with large windows was the best place to sit and enjoy the views. The property provides everything you could need for you stay and ample parking. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future.
This clean, well maintained, modern house is in an excellent location for anyone wanting to enjoy the fabulous hiking in northern Skye, eg., Old Man of Storr and Quiraing. Also has great views out over Staffin Bay.
We chose this cottage based on the reviews that others had written although I was a little cynical that they were a bit too 'perfect'. I needn't have worried, the cottage was indeed perfect. The views are magical, the cottage well equipped and there has been no expense spared in furnishing it. We live in a very quiet part of the countryside so I wasn't sure how the road that runs just beside the cottage would affect us - it wasn't a problem and was only noticed in the conservatory on occasion. It is obvious that the owners have taken great care and pride in ensuring their guests want for noth...more
Cedar's Cabin had everything we needed for our week's stay on Skye. It is well-located in Portree which has most of the shops and amenities we needed. Its position means it gives easy access to most of the beautiful sights of northern and central Skye. Furnished to a high standard, it is warm and welcoming - the owners had left a welcome pack consisting of wine, beer, fresh bread, milk and butter. The shower in particular is very good. If we were to return to Skye, we would definitely stay here again.
Everything about Ard na Mara is fantastic! It's a great location, we spent lots of time watching the ferries and boats. It's also a close drive to the fairy glen which is amazing! The cottage is immaculate, everything from bedding to towels to pots and pans is the very best quality and very clean and tidy. Anything you need is there, irons, travel cot, highchair etc. Perfect base for a group/family holiday.
A tiny little cottage but with all comfort and the owners were super friendly. This is and ideal starting place if you want to visit Skye.
We visited Mable's Cottage for one week with our three dogs. We've been to Skye before but this was our first time in this area of Skye. The location was fantastic, and even though the road outside the cottage got busy with the tourists visiting the Fairy Glen, the cottage and it's garden remained serene and relaxing. The cottage facilities were fantastic, the kitchen was very well resourced, and once you got over the fact the sink was next door in the utility room, it was a very nice place to cook! The utility room was also well resourced, with fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dry...more
Large Windows allowed every time a beautiful View to the Ocean and the islands. The Skyskins and the the Cafe nearby is a must see. The old school house in Dunvegan is a perfect Place for Lunch and Dinner
We really enjoyed this cottage. It's cosy, nice, properly equipped, it has everything you may need or even more. The beds were really comfortable. WiFi is much better than expected at such a distant location. It's really in the middle of nowhere, but this is not a problem, it just gives the place a unique atmosphere.
The house is only a short walk away from the centre, which we found very convinient. Good showers, good beds, plenty of space to store your personal things and a nice view from the livingroom window. The kitchen is unfortunately not well equipped, if you want to cook a meal, there are almost no dishes or platters and the teflon- coated pan and pots are scratched and should be replaced. But all in all we can fully recommend the house and we had a nice holiday.
Lovely cottage with a feeling of escape from daily grind. Plenty to do around the area, lovely walks, castles, dinosaur paw prints and fairy glens within easy reach. The walk to the playground in Edinbane wasn't too far either! The games room inside the cottage was great for wetter days. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you!
We have all really enjoyed our stay at Tarradale Cottage. The house has well proportional rooms and all bedrooms have their own ensuite plus there was as a separate family bathroom. Having all the rooms with ensuite was a big bonus and made mornings a doddle as no one was waiting their turn for the bathroom. The lounge and kitchen areas were well appointed with plenty of seating for all, and stunning views from every window. We also used the annex that is at the back of the house. This comprised of a large bedroom and lounge area with sofa plus large ensuite. It’s only light is artificial as...more
We had 3 good nights there and enjoyed the nice rooms especially the small room with windows around and the view to the bay. Good feature is the central heating control. Only possible improvement: some new cooking pots and pens.
We where staying here for 2 weeks with the dogs like last year, we really love this cosy and comfy cottage !! The cottage is clean and tidy, with fresh bedlinnen ! The location is perfect for exploring the island and we love the views when we where eating breakfast in the morning !! And we are happy that we can stay in the cottage with our 2 dogs ...they really enyoing the place too :-)
This house was absolutely fantastic for a group of friends, there was so much space that 8 of us could fit comfortably! The upstairs shelf was fantastic and although none of the boys in our group agreed to sleep on it I thought they could all have fitted very easily. We went swimming every day and explored the dinosaur disco. Fantastic views and a really nice short drive to two of Skye's main beauty points (the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr). The space in the living room/kitchen was briallnt and perfect for practicing reeling with 16 people.
My partner and I enjoyed our 3 nights at end of August, in this hidden retreat. We were cosy the entire time, especially with the log burners - although we only used the one in living room! The bed was extra comfy! It's worth bearing in mind there's no microwave. Although would highly recommend regardless!! Don't forget to switch on the hot water before taking a shower as we did one morning :) Thanks for having us Tigh Phoil!
Really enjoyed our stay. The house is comfortable and cosy, in a lovely location by the shore, great for watching passing wildlife. Saw seals, herons, curlew, oystercatcher, shag ,goosander.Beautiful views from living room and bedroom. However, some issues with cleanliness : hair in bath plughole, mould growing on plate in microwave [the interior of which also needed cleaning due to food spatter], dirty kitchen cupboard by fridge , which had numerous mug rings. Not sure how such things can be missed... We also felt the kitchen lacked a few basics, ie handwash, kitchen roll, a drainer for pl...more
This is the second time I've stayed at Seamstress' Cottage. The location is superb. Total peace and relaxation. Just outside your door (and from the Velux windows) are fantastic view across Ob Breakish to Applecross, the Isles of Pabay and Scalpay and to the mountains - nearby Beinn na Caillich glowing in the morning sun. Romantic views, definitely? Will the views live in your heart, absolutely? The house is basic but cosy, it is not a large property. It has recently been decorated but I wish the owners had gone a little further and updated some of the fittings, some of it is just looking a li...more
Second time of visiting this cottage. Location is great, so peaceful. Great base for exploring the island. Accommodation great and down stair room was ideal, for elderly mum. Staff at Islands and Highlands Cottages helpful and good to deal with. Will be returning again in the future,
The accommodation is very conveniently arranged and very well looked after. The views are superb. There is a thriving community in Staffin, including the shop and cafe. Thanks to Steve for showing me how to operate the microwave! I would have found a written note helpful.
The cottage is in a wonderful location, ideal for anyone looking for peace and quiet, just a few minutes from the sea and a great circular walk. The property is like a "tardis", much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, with spacious rooms and comfortable furniture. It is rather old fashioned and could do with some updating, but is very clean and comfortable. It did seem rather expensive for just two of us, but if all the bedrooms were occupied then it would be good value for money.
The cottage gave us a real feel for living on Skye. Being able to walk to the shore was wonderful. This is the most amazing place. The kitchen was well equipped. The bath worked well. We enjoyed cozy evenings in the homely living room. The wifi was very fast, but no cell service. There is a land line however which helped. We loved Skye, Tarskavaig and our temporary home there at the Cottage.
Wow what an amazing place ! The owners have literally thought of everything it's the best equipped self catering cottage we've ever stayed at . Great location on the not so busy side of Skye and close to fairy pools , coral beach and portree . Lovely views , very peaceful , quiet location . Owners were very friendly and provided an un expected welcome pack of yummy things including home baked bread and shortbread . WiFi was included which was great as phone signal is not great in Skye ! Can't fault anything there was a washer drier very handy for wet weather and heaters for if it got chilly ...more
Creag Bheag is located very conveniently for Portree centre which is just a few minutes walk. Although near the centre the location is quite quiet. It is very handy having off road parking for 2 cars as Portree was quite busy and I would imagine it could be difficult to park in the village at times. The cottage itself is a good size and is well equipped, although very warm compared to what we are used to. It was fairly clean although we did find some dirty tissues behind a set of drawers in one of the bedrooms. Most of the floors are wooden and although easy to clean they do squeak a lot!...more
Lovely views from the cottage, light, bright and well maintained. A little more honesty about the location of the cottage would be nice. This is, to most people, a remote location and a considerable drive to find groceries and places to eat.
Really enjoyed our stay. Comfy cottage enjoyed the log burner. Stunning scenery would return again. Thank you
Whilst enjoying the property in terms of position and comfort, it WOULD have been good to know beforehand that WiFi fails regularly. And on a smaller point, that TV only means BBC channels. I respect the fact that we are on Skye and therefore have much else to do, but in a day and age when communication is part of life, the constant interruption to WiFi was unexpected. Not a BIG fail, because it probably is par for the course, here, but it should have been mentioned in the listing and in the house itself. However, we booked this holiday late on, and feel we were lucky to get a rental so adequa...more
Place is exactly what we were looking for, i was bit unsure while booking as it was our first time visiting Skye. I was so glad that we booked Loch Mealt View Cottage. Property is well managed with all the basic facilities from washroom to kitchen. We book this cottage for 3 nights with three persons and then our plan changed and ended up going there five people. We informed the admin on the day of our arrival and they arranged everything on the same day. Cottage is situated within 20 minutes drive from some of the main attractions of Skye( Staffin Bay, Dinosaur Museum, Old Man of Storr, Kil...more
The apartment is very well maintained with all the necessary equipments to make the stay even more comfortable.
This is a very modern, clean, well equipped lodge with everything you need while on a trip to Skye. Short walking distance to centre of Portree while in a secluded spot. Welcoming and thoughtful owners. Bit expensive but Skye seems to be getting more so every year!
Very clean and comphortable .Well equippet comphortable beds. Wonderful view from all windows. A little isolated.
No surprise concerning the accomodation, very clean. Lost of board games are avalable for adults and children. The house is well located to visit Skye island, near from petrol station and supermarket, near from the beach of Torrin. Just one think, it was a little bite complicated to find the house.
Very beautiful cottage with a real fireplace, warm and cosy, and after the first night you get used to the quite noisy boiler, which does its duty and provides really hot water, even if it starts to work at 3am ;-)
First off did not realise sky was so big. Arrived about seven pm, easy enough to find. Inside the cottage and be aware this looks like one cottage but it is split in half as we found out when a couple turned up at about the same time as us asking where they were staying. Inside it is very cozy, kitchen was very clean and bedroom nice but a little compact. All in all a lovely place to stay and would go back again.
It is such a nice house in a very quiet neighbourhood. The interior has been well picked with a good sense for design. There are all facilities provided plus some extras like a baking oven, nice glases and even books. The oven is not working properly, though. And the sleeping arrangements, a bigger bed or twin beds or at least two duvets would make this house perfect.
Very pleased with our cottage, great location for visiting the local region. Warm, comfortable and well facilitated.
We had a great week holiday at Allt Slapin in Torrin on the Isle of Skye. It had a real feel of being in a remote location - away from the day trippers on Skye. Torrin is a small hamlet, reached by a single track road (with numerous passing points) which leads eventually to Elgin. The cottage is not far from the Loch, slightly raised, and with a stream passing by the side of it. It is reached by an alarmingly steep untarmac'ed track, which took a while to get used to going up and down. The views are stunning all around - 360 degrees. From the front (through the kitchen window) you see...more
We'd read previous reviews painting a rather dubious picture of the cottage, but it was fine. It's cosy, comfy and fitted in with what we needed. The location is good, not far outside Broadford with it's shop, garage, places to eat, a 15 minute walk to a lovely beach with seals jus off shore. The cottage was clean, the sofas were comfy, lovely big table & chairs. The kitchen could do with a big pasta pan, otherwise pretty good equipment wise. The wall wasn't wet during our stay, I know a previous reviewer mentioned this. It's a holiday house, things won't be the same as your own home. ...more
