Newly refurbished, modern, extremely clean, well equipped, comfortable impressive cottage. Hosts were generous with extra bits like loo roll and washing up liquid. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. Gorgeous west facing views over the beach. Would recommend.
Things to flag:
The master bedroom has a separate staircase to the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, but both staircases are very narrow and steep - anyone with impaired mobility would struggle and young children need supervision.
Access to the cottage is a 20 mins drive down a single track road (surfaced but no road markings, and with quite sheer drops to the side of road in some places, and some blind summits) to get to the main road. The cottage was around a 30 min drive from the ferry terminal, and 40 mins from Broadford (depending on how confident you are with the single track road).

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review Emma, we very much appreciate it. We were delighted to see that you thought our crofthouse in the Highlands was well equipped and comfortable for your recent stay. When you’re away from home and on your holidays, those little extra touches really help, don’t they! The Sleat area really is South Skye’s hidden gem. The terrain has not been touched by the traffic and the tourists who travel north on the island. A friend of ours said that we are so well placed in Skye – so handy for the Outers (Hebrides) and only 5 hours from Glasgow!!! Your timing guides are spot on too – close to the ferry terminal in one direction and Broadford in the other, and we have the added advantage of a quiet sandy beach just a short walk from the crofthouse with views of the Cuillin and fabulous sunsets – we hope you saw a few. We were delighted to hear that you found our crofthouse comfortable, and we’d love to welcome you and your party back sometime soon, just let us know when you would like to experience it all over again. Regards from the Owners of 9 Achnacloich.

This is an amazing house; well equipped, comfortable and in fantastically quiet spot. We were lucky enough to see Owls when sat on the sofa! Plus golden eagles just round the corner. The local beach was lots of fun to spend mornings with the children. We completely loved Skye. There was lots to see and do. We also loved just relaxing! It’s worth noting that the house is a good 15-20mins drive from a shop, or from most places really- but for us that was a bonus! We had the most amazing week- thank you!

Carrie, we were delighted that you had taken the time to leave us some feedback on our crofthouse and to say that you had such a wonderful time at 9 Achnacloich. Many thanks we really appreciate it. We agree, the opportunities to see wildlife (and not even leave the sofa) are fantastic! The beach keeps the family entertained (endlessly) and you can also make sure that you have some downtime, chill and relax too. So what’s not to like?! We’d be delighted to welcome you back to the crofthouse, so that you can do it all again sometime. Happy travels. Kind regards The Owners of 9 Achancloich

Great to be back.

We have just got back from our stay on Skye and the accommodation was perfect. The views from the kitchen were amazing looking over the sea, every evening we had a short walk down to the beach to watch the sunsets. The first thing I noticed when entering the cottage was how immaculately clean it was. We had such a comfortable stay and both our kids slept so well with the comfy beds and black out blinds. When contacting the company running the cottage they replied immediately any time of the day with great customer service. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, the only problem we had was that we had to come home! Would love to visit again soon.

A really nicely renovated crofters cottage in a very quiet and tranquil setting. Very warm despite the December/January gales blowing outside. Can easily accommodate a family of 5 without feeling on top of each other. The owners were able to accommodate our last minute booking very efficiently. The only issue was no WiFi signal in the master bedroom but I’m sure this could be fixed as the WiFi signal worked well downstairs.

Islands and Highlands Cottages replied more than 1 year ago
Thanks for your review , much appreciated. The owners have now installed a "tp-link" Powerline WiFi kit, so a strong signal is available in the master bedroom. We're delighted to have accommodated you on short notice. We look forward to welcoming you in the future . Regards , I&H Cottages

We arrived and found the instructions for the key safe easy to follow.
We found the cottage to exceptional clean and far more space than we need which as a great plus.
The kitchen is well appointed and this was the main hub of were we sat in the evenings.
There was enough materials for a fire on the colder nights which made it all feel very cosy.
We highly recommend number 9 and would stay again.

Great gorgeous, well appointed, but sadly not very clean

The property is tucked away in a valley deep in the south of Skye. There's a well finished but narrow five mile road to drive to get to it, so it's pretty remote albeit it sited with other cottages. There are a lot of remote properties on Skye and part of it's charm is it's not a well connected place. It is worth knowing this if you'd like pubs/cafes etc close by. A delightful beach is in easy walking distance, and we enjoyed taking our own wine and snacks there for a sunset picnic.
The cottage is very big, with lots of outside space and ample parking. It was sad that at the time we visited in the latter stages of Covid that home comforts had been removed e.g. cushions, rugs, blankets etc as it left it feeling quite stark. But that's not the owners fault.
The kitchen is very well appointed in terms of equipment, and the utility room with two washer dryers and drying racks was a big help when we were there, as the weather is, well, Scottish! We were however sad to find there wasn't a teabag, bottle of milk, or even salt or pepper in the kitchen. Luckily we'd stopped at a supermarket on the way on the mainland to furnish ourselves with provisions for the week, so we'd recommend anyone else must do the same. As there's no shop to "pop to" either, and The Co-op in Broadford isn't huge.
The snug/living room was generously furnished with peat logs, and detailed instructions on how to light the log burner. We thoroughly enjoyed this. The wifi worked well, and we had pretty good mobile phone reception - unusual for Skye!
There is plenty of room for a big family, but the open plan nature of the master bedroom above the kitchen meant running the dishwasher at night was a noisy option, and even boiling a kettle in the morning would disturb people in that room. The beds were comfortable, and the bedrooms very large. The bathrooms were well appointed.
Martin the owner was responsive, and stayed in touch, even trying to offer advice when we had a problem with our hire car.
I'm afraid the disappointment was the cleanliness of the property. Downstairs was clean, but the bedrooms were not. Drawers had hairs and particles of dirt/sand in them and looked like they'd not been wiped out in some while, as did some kitchen cupboards. There was shower gel or shampoo on the wall of the shower. Sticky fingerprints on the bedside tables. And sticky product on the drawers in one of the bedrooms. Marks on the bed linen as well. We communicated some of these examples to the cottage owner who's cleaner came up and only tackling the couple of examples we'd raised, rather than checking the cleanliness of the entire place.

Perfect location, with fantastic views. Our first evening was spent watching the sunset over the Cuillins, incredible! Very comfortable, modern, spacious house, and very well equipped. We enjoyed every part of our holiday. The Sleat Peninsula is a beautiful part of Skye with lots to explore. We’d definitely recommend it.

A great week on Skye in a fabulous cottage.

'Wow. This is great!' This was the reaction when we arrived after a long journey. The owners have thought of everything that you may want or need. There is even wifi for those wanting to stay in contact with the outside world. The cottage is super well equipped with modern fittings and the views over the bay are stunning. Just remember a Skye mile is a long mile and a pint of milk is at least fifteen minutes drive away. Enjoy - we certainly did.

The house is lovely and has all of the amenities that we required for our stay.
We loved sitting on the sofa looking out to the sea.
The house is quote remote so it is great that the kitchen is so well equipped to cook all the meals we wanted. The bedrooms were lovely. However, we would have preferred super king size duvets rather than singles.
We loved the underfloor heating but we felt that the house lacked a warm space to dry out wet clothes after a day out walking in the rain.

Fantastic, beautifully renovated with taste and style - photos on the website do not do justice to the stunning location surrounding and the sea views from the kitchen/lounge and master bedroom suite . A real get away from it all ...!
We were a family of four two adults and two older children and we just loved it !

This cottage is so beautiful and comfortable. Everything was just perfect from the decor, its size, the cleanliness, the comfortable sofas and beds, the stunning well-equipped kitchen, to the space, the views and the excellent customer service. We travelled as a family of 5 with kids under 10 and they and we absolutely loved our stay. The owners have thought of everything you might need to make you feel right at home. The location is tranquil and secluded and just a stone's throw from the beach which offers amazing sunsets and lovely walks. As it requires a bit of a long drive to Skye's better known attractions on the Totternish peninsula, it allowed us to explore the beauty of the Sleat Peninsula which is not to be missed. I couldn't recommend 9 Achnacloich highly enough.

Many thanks for such positive feedback of the croft house, Barbara, I really appreciate the time you have taken to send me your review. I was delighted to hear that you found the croft house was to your liking and that you all had such a great holiday at 9 Achnacloich. It was fantastic to hear that you and the family had such a wonderful time on Skye and had the opportunity to do a little sightseeing as well as a little paddling in the sea on your hols, too! I look forward to welcoming you to Sleat again someday.

Best holiday in a long time.

The accommodation is nice but very remote a warning is do not turn left at the end of the drive as it turns out to be very costly due to the unmarked ditch which was virtually impossible to see due to the length of the grass I know I ended up in it. The master bedroom is great as long as you don’t mind listening to a very noisy fridge all night due to there being no doorway to the bedroom, the parking area is good until it rains which it does a lot on Skye and then it’s like a mud bath and very slippery. There is also only catch up tv available on the only tv in the house paying top dollar you would expect a tv in each room and satellite tv. If there are six of you I hope you don’t want to sit together as only enough room for four people on settees in each room, the property is nice but as the title suggests it’s lacking and for what you are paying you expect it to be perfect which it certainly isn’t.

I&H Cottages replied more than 1 year ago
A reply from the owners of 9 Achnacloich: Firstly, we wanted to thank you very much for leaving the crofthouse so clean and tidy, it really does help our Housekeeper on changeover day. We were very sorry to learn you had driven into the ditch, it must have been upsetting for you and your passenger. In our 15 years of ownership no-one has turned left at the end of the drive (partly because it is too tight to turn onto the tarmac) and I mowed the grass before you arrived so that the exit was clear. We have now ordered a ‘no left turn’ sign as an additional precaution for our future guests. Thank you also for your other feedback. We’ve noticed the fridge freezer is quiet if used on the 8C setting. In sunny weather using the roller blinds to control the temperature of the Kitchen will also reduce the time the fridge freezer needs to run. We have added these details to our Handbook for future guests. It’s a pity that you had a wet week as it was glorious on Saturday and all the following week! The parking area at the house is machine compacted gravel and not tarmac, so an allowance does have to be made. We've asked the contractor who laid the drive to suggest how to address your comment, so we have taken note of that too. We do inform guests about there being Smart TV (please see the agent’s description of the crofthouse). BBC i-Player and ITV Player are available to view as are other digital terrestrial channels, and guests can access Netflix and any other services they subscribe to at home via our WiFi. We decided on one television and dvd player in the lounge, so that guests have as much of a “get away from it all” experience on the island as possible and have some quality “down time”, especially at such a troubling period. We were sorry to hear that you felt that this was an inconvenience. As a traditional stone crofthouse, we’ve really tried hard to maximise the space available to accommodate our guests in the Lounge. As you know, the furniture is set out for five people and an extra Windsor chair can easily be brought from the Kitchen/Diner if needed – similarly, if 6 seats were needed in the Kitchen/Diner, then the Windsor chair from the lounge can be brought through. We hope that you enjoyed your ferry ride back to the mainland and trust we’ll see you again soon.
