Tucked away in the enchanting village of Dornie, Lochside is a delightful retreat that promises a memorable escape. With stunning views along Loch Long where otters and seals are very often spotted. Upon stepping inside, you are welcomed by an open-plan living area that radiates warmth and comfort. The spacious lounge invites you to unwind on a plush sofa, with a television ready for cosy movie nights or catching up on your favourite shows. There are views of the water from most rooms.

Lochside is a beautiful property in a stunning location, and under normal circumstances it could have been a wonderful stay for our family. Unfortunately, during our visit there was a 10+ hour power outage affecting the whole area. While I understand that the weather event was beyond the owner’s control, there was no emergency backup option (such as alternative heating or cooking provision), and the handling afterwards was disappointing.

Despite the inconvenience and our decision to stay on, there was no goodwill gesture offered, only a strict reference to terms and conditions and the SSE refund threshold. A small token of care could have turned an unfortunate situation into a positive memory. Despite paying £1,410 for 5 nights, there was no goodwill gesture or meaningful effort to address the inconvenience. Lovely setting, but the handling of the situation left us disappointed.

Would I recommend to others?
No — not unless the approach to guest care during unforeseen problems changes.

Thank you for your comments and we are delighted to hear that you thought the holiday cottage, Lochside is a beautiful property. It is a wonderful holiday home and we are glad that it was enjoyed. We sympathise with your stay coinciding with Storm Floris which left tens of thousands of homes across Scotland without power, and that Lochside was affected by this. Lochside was without power until approx 10pm on the first day. However compared to other areas local to Lochside who were without power for up to 5 days, it was restored by SSE relatively quicky especially as the storm was still ongoing at that time. They worked so hard to restore power to Lochalsh. Whilst having back up power would be great, it is just not feasible for all properties to have a generator or provide alternative facilities. Lochside was able to provide you with shelter and other facilities during this period, and you had full facilities again once the power was re-established. This was an unforeseen event and was totally out with the control of ourselves. We appreciate that it was also out with your control but we were all going through it at the same time. As per our Terms and Conditions https://www.ihcottages.com/terms-conditions/ that you agreed to when booking, "If the complaint is due to an “Act of God”, such as bad weather or road closures or any other act or occurrence over which we as the Agent, the Owner or the Housekeeper has no control over, no refund will be given." On the day in question, we worked with guests, housekeepers and owners across Skye and Lochalsh to try and ensure everyone had shelter and a safe bed for the night.
