Old School, Dunan is a fantastic waterfront semi-detached holiday cottage, perfect for family and friends looking to get away from it all! Just 4 miles from Broadford for amenities, it is well positioned on the Isle of Skye for exploring the whole island! The lounge has lovely views over Loch na Cairidh and towards Scalpay, as does the spacious and well equipped kitchen diner. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, all with their own ensuite. At the rear of the property there is an enclosed garden with decking area and garden furniture.

My wife and I celebrating a special anniversary had a delightful week at Old School. The properties position was perfect giving us peace and quiet,yet only a short drive to facilities. We were fortunate to meet the owners of the property, who were a lovely family,and when we visit Isle of Skye again we would definitely stay there again

We enjoyed the cottage very much. The location was brilliant, the size was perfect for 6 people and the double rooms with bathrooms was great. The one thing we did agree on was that new beds are needed! The single beds creaked a lot and the mattresses were all a bit lumpy. Apart from that, faultless.

Conversion of an old building has its challenges but this one has been done very well and provides three good bedrooms and communal areas which are comfortable and spacious.

The uniform white decor was a little bland, but kept the spaces bright. Furnishings were good throughout. A few minor maintenance niggles (bulbs out, one broken garden chair) but generally well kept.

The property sits in a beautiful location with stunning views and direct access to the rocky shore. At high tide the water level comes almost to the garden wall. Swimming is possible from the shore, but watch out for the tidal race which looked about 3-4 knots through the channel.

The access to the property is the only issue - the turn into or out of the driveway is awkward, and the drive is steep and with a lip which could ground low cars, and leaving required reversing uphill to turn around in the walled entrance to the next door property. No problem if you are confident in your driving, but no doubt a significant challenge for some.

We had a great time at the cottage and the Isle of Skye and would recommand the cottage! The cottage was in good condition and the location on the island was very good to visit the different sights.

We had a very pleasant stay in the old school, very good and clean facilities (Washing machine and tumble dryer . An excellent base to explore the southern half of the beautiful island of Skye.
A minor point was a slight sewer smell outside the front door (no problem inside the house, so definitely wouldnt put me off for a booking next year)

Stunning location - right next to the sea ( literally climb over the wall using the steps set into the brickwork). The views from the upstairs windows overlooking the loch are amazing.
The cottage itself is lovely - it has been beautifully renovated, is nicely furnished, and well equipped. Washer and dryer in utility area .
The beds are very comfortable. Nice bath and shower rooms.
The cottage is well situated for getting out and about. Broadford is about 5 miles away ( largish Co-Op and cheap petrol/ diesel), Portree not too far, handy for ferry to Raasay etc .
Really enjoyed swimming in the sea next to the cottage . We did have tow floats but it seemed reasonably safe. Rotary line to dry off wetsuits etc .
Would definitely stay at Old School again .

A lovely cottage beside a very peaceful Loch. The gardens were well kept and very pretty. Only slight road noise. We had everything we needed, although the pans could do with replacing and some of the light bulbs were not working. Although the cottage was very clean overall, the shower rims in two of the bedrooms, could do with a good deep clean.
Plenty of leaflets to give us ideas where to go.
Some lovely walks nearby and the cottage is central enough for going further afield.

This is our third stay at the Old School and we intend to visit again next year. The house is spacious and comfortable with beautiful views across the Sound and access to the water from the house. The location is perfect for exploring the incredible Isle of Skye and returning home at the end of the day to chill and relax. I would highly recommend a visit (but not when we want to stay ha ha)

A fantastic property in a wonderful location with fabulous views. The house provided all we needed and more. Our dog could be safely allowed to wander around the garden which was very red deer friendly too! We spotted otters and much bird life and had great outings...Skye scenery does not disappoint! Can recommend a ferry over to Raasay and a trip around the distillery....great for otter spotting too.

We can totally recommend this property.

Had a lovely stay, property had everything we needed. There were a few little critters around in the hallway and the property would benefit from new mattresses as they were thin and you could feel the springs. But otherwise it was spacious, cozy and in a lovely location. We had no issues and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The location of the cottage is stunning on the waterfront. It’s quiet, secluded, private set well back from the road and peaceful. The house is well equipped, comfortable and spacious. It’s also not far from Broadford over the bridge to skye so access to shops and facilities is good. A great location to explore the island.

A beautiful home in the most glorious setting. Owner was the absolute BEST in helping me with one issue I had (my fault). Beautiful lawn and gardens. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing!! A total joy, it was a memorable four generation of women trip of a lifetime.

Our second visit to the wonderful Old School. Location and setting is perfect for getting out and about exploring the wonderful Isle of Skye. Swimming and paddle boarding on our door step with regular visits from a couple of inquisitive seals. The accommodation is great for a family with a couple of dogs who enjoy the outdoors. The house is spacious and well equipped. We have asked if we can book again for next year, as we have fallen in love with Skye and the Old School is a lovely place to return to after a day out and about.

Really enjoyed our stay , the weather was great so Skye looked absolutely stunning and we walked or cycled every day. The cottage is beautifully located right on the shore with superb views of sea and forested hills. We saw an Otter fishing right in front of the house and lots of bird life and seals . Great Northern Divers joined us for breakfast like clockwork every day . The cottage is really warm , so much so that we turned the heating off most of the time which is not bad for Scotland in April. Everything was very clean and we had all we needed. The village of Broadford is nearby and has an excellent large Coop and a good range of restaurants (we particularly recommend the pizzas at Cafe Sia that were very popular with the children and the fish and chip shop right on the shore with obligatory deep fried mars bars !).

We hope we can come again.

The views from this cottage are just spectacular and no matter the weather are a picture postcard . It’s cosy, warm and great to come back to after a days exploring . It central to all corners of Skye and is not far from all local amenities .

We enjoyed our stay, the house was comfortable and with good insulation, great bathrooms and hot water ( although there were only a couple of mirrors, none near a stocket, and no hairdryer ) We found the kitchen a bit dark as several bulbs needed replaced, unfortunately they weren’t replaced during our stay, seems there was a mix up with the owners. I’m sure they have been replaced by now as everything else was in order.
The oven was also in need of a good clean and some ovenware was needing replaced. We had taken foil baking trays with us so not a problem for us, also one tea towel for 5 people was not adequate, again we brought some of our own.
The garden had some weeds which were pretty big, you needed to avoid them to get in the house.
Overall , the house was good, but could be amazing if it was given some TLC, you could tell it was furnished for letting, as it missed the extra comforts , like coat hangers( only 3 in the whole house).
Also the door handles, sounds petty, but trying to turn them with damp hands was a nightmare,and you banged your hand on the wall in the utility area, why not door levers? So much easier to use, especially if you have arthritic hands.
Beautiful location, great views, but we will not be returning.

Great location, quiet with great views but near enough to facilities. Very comfortable beds and all en suite.
Only criticism would be lack of some kitchen equipment. e.g. no colander, more crockery so dishwasher didn’t have to be used so frequently.

We had an amazing week at Old School. Our party was 4 adults and 2 teenagers,and the cottage was big enough that no one felt that we were under each other’s feet.
The cottage is lovely and bright, and access into the pebble beach behind cottage from garden.
Everything you need is at the cottage, and location and access to all tourist attractions was within an hours drive.
A week at this cottage was too short, and none of us wanted to leave.

We have just returned from a fabulous week on the Isle of Skye and loved our stay in the beautiful Old School. The house was perfect for a young family and their dogs! We saw deer, seals and otters from our front door and we even managed a couple of dips in the Loch! We loved it so much we have booked for 2022 already!

Old School is a lovely cottage next to a stoney beach with wonderful views across to Scalpay. The cottage has everything you need and is a short drive to Broadford with restaurants, take-aways and a supermarket. We had a brilliant week and had amazing walks all over the island. I can’t wait to go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old School. The cottage was well equipped with everything we required for our week's stay. It was extremely comfortable and had plenty of space for the 5 of us (plus our dog). The views from the cottage were stunning! I thoroughly enjoyed drinking my morning coffee in the garden, soaking up the view, and having a glass of wine under the stars at night. When the weather wasn't as kind, it was lovely to see the landscape change through the windows, in the comfort and heat of the cottage. The location of the Old School was perfect for us - it a great base for us to drive to all the places that we wanted to visit in Skye and it was only a 5 min drive to Broadford for grocery supplies (it has a good sized and well stocked coop). We had a fabulous stay at the cottage and hope to return again.

The Old School is a lovely cottage . The situation is perfect : right on the loch shore in a quiet setting. The house is decorated and furnished to a high standard. It has a bright homely feel. Two things would have improved our visit : the kitchen was missing a colander A gate giving access onto the beach would be the ultimate! A great cottage . Certainly recommend. Skye is just brilliant, but don’t tell too many people !

A lovely location, on the water, with great views to the front, although the very busy road, behind the house, mean't there was almost constant traffic noise. We did enjoy our stay but felt that the cottage lacked quite a lot of features we would expect for the price! The kitchen cupboards were mostly empty with only the most basic cooking utensils, pans, etc. Most of these needed washing before we could use them and some were too grubby/old to be used at all. The heating was not on when we arrived, despite being early evening, so it took some time to get the house warm. All the rooms were clean[ish] but there was no evidence of any COVID cleaning/sanitising! We didn't find a house book or any other useful information apart from a drawer full of extremely tatty appliance manuals. A great many of the lights were not working when we arrived and, despite several visits from an electrician, this was not resolved during our stay! The toilet seat in our ensuite was also broken but this was fixed within one day of arriving. This cottage is definitely lacking attention, both in presentation and facilities, which is shame as it is warm and has great views!

Having read recent reviews I became alarmed at the descriptions of lax cleaning , especially worrying during a pandemic. I am pleased to report that for now things have improved. The cottage seemed clean and was spacious , uncluttered , comfortable and warm. We were visiting family who were staying next door so we have had a delightful time walking on the Island together. The cottage , it’s garden and the sea views are lovely to come home to and you can hear the waves lapping against the shore . Kath and the team at Highlands and Islands Cottages were extremely cheerful , knowledgeable and helpful .

We were surprised how spacious the cottage was, it is much bigger than it looks in the photos. Was very clean and the location on the lochside is stunning. Very dog friendly with enclosed garden and many nearby walks. Was great having an en-suite in every bedroom. Hope to be back!

Perfect location for exploring Skye. Well appointed property with excellent facilities. Only surprise was absence of dish cloth or any cloth for cleaning surfaces etc. Luckily we’d brought our own. Highly recommended

The location is beautiful, the cottage is spacious and well located to explore the island.
Quite and relaxing with views that I could have spent forever staring out at! There were some basic things that would have been helpful in the kitchen - for example I didnt realise there were no egg cups until I had my breakfast eggs ready! haha - improvisations required :)
I did mention some issues with cleanliness to the cottage company which they assured me would be addressed for future guests but I did find these disappointing however.

The best part for us was the garden - only yards from the Loch and a climb over the wall ( a few nettles to negotiate but worth the climb) The back garden is secure and perfect for the dogs but to be honest the long driveway and back garden was fine for them also and was very safe.
Would we go back - yes, but I would also like to visit one of the other cottages available and hope to do so in the future

The house is a great size and in an amazing location. We were disappointed to find that it was quite dirty, however. For example, the floors hadn’t been hoovered, the fridge was dirty, and there was opened food in the cupboards. Not great in these times of the Covid-19 pandemic. If they made it cleaner though, we’d like to return.

We arrived on 25th July for 7 days. Found old school to be absolutely everything we had hoped for, spotless on arrival, beautiful house and gardens. Views to die for. Great location for getting out and about on skye. I have rented many cottages over the years on skye but this was by a country mile the best yet. As always islands and highlands provided great service. I will be rebooking old school for next year.
