8 Kildonan, by Edinbane, is a spacious family holiday home with views down Loch Greshornish and is perfect for sunsets!

There are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an ensuite. The other double bedroom has a double bed, and the twin bedroom has two single beds. The kitchen is modern with a dining area and the lounge leads through to a sunroom.

Located in between Dunvegan and Portree on a quiet road, it is excellently positioned for exploring the isle of Skye yet enjoying peace and quiet.

Check-in was smooth. Communication with the rental company was easy and quick. The apartment is nice and clean and serves as a good base for excursions. The kitchen is quite sparsely equipped, and the heaters are rather loud because there's a lot of air in the system. As a result, they are not very efficient in heating. The beds are very comfortable. We had a good time in the accommodation. We especially loved the loggia due to the beautiful view.

First time visiting the Isle of Skye, and what a place to stay. The location was remote enough, just a short drive from Portree, but remote enough with only a few dwellings nearby. The view was amazing over looking the sea, and rolling hills. We picked a weekend where the weather was outstanding and this only added to the brilliance of the property, sitting in the sun room taking in the view.
The property was exceptionally clean, with all the amenities you could need and a clear welcome pack. Plenty of space and with four adults you had enough room not to feel on top of each other.
The sky at night was amazing, and even captured the Aurora on camera.
Highly recommend.

This was lovely accommodation. Instructions on how to get here are very good. Well equipped with everything you need apart from dishwasher and oven was not very good with minimal instructions and dials faded. Two days before we left the hot water did not work at all despite putting it on a boost. I did report but it was too late for them to fix, so hopefully everything will be in order for the next guests.
We really enjoyed our family holiday on Skye (apart from the rain!) and managed to tour most of the island and a day trip to Rassay.

This is our second year staying here and it was great to be back. Nice and clean on arrival. The beds are very comfortable which is much appreciated. There are houses nearby but you're not overlooked. Overall, a fabulous place to relax. Hope to stay again.

Missing council road signs meant that we had trouble finding the Kildonan road - but once on it, finding the house was no trouble.
The property proved to be spacious, and very clean and comfortable, but on dull days seemed very gloomy. There were some minor niggles - only two tea towels for a whole week of washing up for potentially six people? No oven gloves that we could find? - but two serious flaws.
The first was the hot water - or lack of it. On our first evening, despite the kitchen display suggesting that the water had been heated all evening, there wasn't a drop of even warm water to be had from any tap, so we couldn't wash up and my poor husband had to have a cold shower. We found that repeat application of the "advance" button was the only way to get the water hot.
And worse was the state of the cooker - so well used that no markings for function or temperature are visible on the knobs - and with a grill pan that doesn't fit the grill. We found it quite frightening that the only way of turning the main oven off is to switch the whole thing off at the mains!
Such a shame, because the situation is fantastic, with breathtaking views, and we watched some truly wonderful sunsets, as well as enjoying seeing the Uig ferries come and go, and keeping tabs on the small boats at the tiny quay opposite.

Das Haus und die Zimmer sind sehr schön, der Wintergarten ein Traum. Die Aufteilung ist ideal. Die Küche ist mit dem Esszimmer verbunden, schöne Küche und gemütlicher Sitzplatz. Allerdings sind die Stühle eine Katastrophe, durchgesessen und als kleiner Mensch kommt man nicht richtig an die Tischplatte mehr ran, da man dermaßen einsinkt. Die 2 Stühle vor der Heizung unter dem Fenster rutschen leicht bis an die Heizung, wo sie ansengen, das Plastik klebt an der Heizung an.
Abends sind wir nur im Wintergarten gesessen, weil soo schön :o). Die Sessel dort sind bequem, allerdings nur für 4 Leute. Das Wohnzimmer mit seiner Couch haben wir gar nicht wirklich benutzt.
Das hintere Schlafzimmer mit Bad/Dusche ist das schönste, angenehm groß, schön eingerichtet, Ablagemöglichkeiten, genügend Schrank, bequeme Matratze 1,50 m breit, Zudecke ausreichend breit für 2. Das vordere Schlafzimmer ist auch schön, etwas kleiner, aber auch geräumig mit Ablagemöglichkeiten, bequeme Matratze 1,40 breit, Matratze und Zudecke zu schmal für 2 Personen. Mein Mann und ich können nicht schlafen bei dieser Breite. Deshalb sind wir ins Kinderzimmer ausgewichen, da stehen 2 Einzelbetten, mit unbequemen Matratzen je 1m breit und Einzelzudecken. Das Kinderzimmer ist sehr klein, kaum Ablagemöglichkeiten, aber einen Wandschrank und 1 Stuhl. Deshalb haben wir dort nur geschlafen und hatten unsere Sachen im anderen Zimmer, war etwas blöd. Die Einzelbetten sind nicht so bequem, Matratzen dünn. Separates Bad mit Badewanne (mit Duschmöglichkeit), wenig Ablagemöglichkeiten.
Ein Glück waren wir nur 4 Personen, obwohl das Haus 6 beherbergen kann. Das Geschirr reicht für 6 Personen, aber nicht das Kochgeschirr! Selbst zu viert hatten wir große Probleme zu kochen, da die Töpfe und Pfannen viel zu klein sind für die Menge, die man für 4 Personen braucht. Salat mussten wir in 2 Schüsseln anmachen. Essen in 2 Pfannen braten usw. Die Ausstattung der Küche ist nicht gut. Es fehlt an vielem.
Leider hat es in der Woche im Mai, in der wir dort waren, fast nur geregnet, so dass wir nur 1 x einen Sonnenuntergnag bewundern konnten, der jedoch auch noch sehr wolkenverhangen war. Tiere im Meer haben wir auch keine gesehen. Zum Essen gehen hat man nicht viel Möglichkeiten und man muss ein Auto dafür zur Verfügung haben.
Wir haben den Aufenthalt trotz widriger Umstände genossen, da es ein sehr schöner Ort und ein sehr schönes Haus ist. Man hat eine herrliche Ruhe, nur Vögel und Schafe drumherum.
Gut mitgedacht war die Möglichkeit im Wohnzimmer eine Stromverteilerbox aufzustellen mit mehreren USB-Anschlüssen :o). Da konnten alle die Handys aufladen. Musikmöglichkeiten und Fernseher gab es auch, haben wir aber nicht genutzt.

Such a lovely place to spend a weeks holiday - well equipped & comfortable cottage with amazing views,
& one of the most comfortable beds we’ve had away from home!
Only downside was the limited internet allowance- an indication of actual usage would have been helpful in not using too much in planning days out & journey planning- however this wouldn’t stop us from booking again as it was a lovely place.

We enjoyed our week in Skye very much, helped by the, mainly, wonderful weather. 8 Kildonan is in a great spot, elevated and commanding an excellent view of Loch Greshornish. It is well situated for getting around the north of Skye with Portree 15 mins away. The staff at the Islands and Highlands office were always really helpful.
The house itself was fine, it had everything we needed. We spent most of our time, when indoors, in the sunroom overlooking the loch. That room had the view and, crucially, sunlight. The other rooms tended to be dull. The main sitting room in particular was very dark, even at peak daylight.

This is a lovely cottage - maybe not the prettiest but with comfortable rooms and a great view from the conservatory out over Loch Greshornish.

Owing to the needs of Covid-19, we had to strip the beds and pillows removing the mattress protectors as well at the end of our stay - this gave us a chance to see how clean the mattresses and pillows were and I can confirm they were all spotless. This matches what we found across the cottage - everything was very clean.

The lounge area is very comfortable, although with not much of a view. (The views are really all from the conservatory, which is heated and sits alongside the lounge). There is an open fire but we got the impression we weren't;t supposed to light it (as it had a flower display in it) - a bit of a shame, as that would have been a real bonus.

The bathrooms were comfortable, the heating effective, it was easy to find. All good and we would very happily stay again!

What a great holiday we had on Skye. The house was perfect for our needs. Very safe which was key as we have an active toddler. The sun lounge is a fantastic bonus. We spent many an evening watching sunsets of the rain sweep across the sea.
The showers are fantastic which is another unexpected bonus.
Kitchen is modern and well stocked.
Plenty of seating in the living area for family games etc.

Our stay at 8 Kildonan on Skye was a wonderful relaxing time, the views from the cottage were wonderful and more than we had imagined. The cottage it’s self was in a great location and was a peaceful retreat which we’d been looking for and within easy reach of the rest of the isle. The only things that proved slightly annoying were no dish cloths for drying up the dishes and the temperature on the on suite shower would not adjust between either cold or extremely hot. One trip to the shops solved the dish towel problem but put up with the shower. Although both slight niggles never detracted from a wonderful stay and would definitely return again.

The highlight of our visit to the Isle of Skye was our time at Kildonan. The setting was superb. We had a little trouble at first getting internet connection - but it came good during the evening. We also had trouble working out how to turn on the oven (there is a switch in a side cupboard) and as we had arrived very ready for dinner we needed to improvise and cook on the stove top. Again all worked out once we understood.

A steamer for vegetables would have been a good addition in the kitchen. The ironing board seemed to be broken and a panel around the door frame on the inner door was loose - but these are minor and just offering feedback. Overall wonderful setting, the view from the front room is superb, the beds were very comfortable, and the showers provided ample hot water. So our time was very pleasantly spent at No 8 Kildonan. The visitor information book provided useful information about where to dine etc.

The property is older, but well maintained. I found that the kitchen was not as well equiped as other properties we’ve rented on this trip, but is functional. The instructions and FAQs provided by the rental agency were perfect and very useful in finding the cottage the first day. The location was perfect for us, with nice views of the bay. We even saw dolphins on our first evening there.

The location of this property is ideal for visiting the north end of Skye. Lovely views from the sun room across the loch. Comfortable and cosy accommodation. The layout was ideal for us (family of 4, plus parents), and ideal that it is all on one level with an en suite to the main bedroom. Kitchen reasonably well equipped, and plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses.

We had 3 good nights there and enjoyed the nice rooms especially the small room with windows around and the view to the bay. Good feature is the central heating control.
Only possible improvement: some new cooking pots and pens.

The house was great! Awesome location for exploring the island. We loved the sunroom especially great place in the evening to hang out. The bushes outside of the sunroom could use a trimming so we could see more of the view. Thank you for the bottle of wine - we enjoyed it in the sunroom last night. The bathtub is not draining properly. And instructions on how to lock the front door would be useful. We did buy eggs from one of the neighbors and they were lovely.

We absolutely loved staying at 8 Kildonan. The location was central and perfect for exploring Skye. The first evening we were there, we took a walk down the quiet road, and watched a seal playing in the water. The air was scented like honey. Gorgeous spot!
It didn't take long (less than 30 minutes) to get to Portree or Dunvegan from our location. It was easy to hike the Old Man of Storr, visit Kilt Rock, and carry on around the shoreline loop enjoying all of the beauty and attractions, in a day.
Pick up groceries in Portree, or there is a small store in Dunvegan.
Another highlight included the fairy pools. A great hike for a family of all ages.

We didn't want to leave and wished we had booked for a week. This was easily the highlight of our six weeks in Britain in both outstanding, wild natural beauty of the location and the amenities provided by the owners of the property.

The cottage was spacious, very comfortable and had a modern kitchen and bathroom. Extras provided included books, games and magazines. The information folder was full of suggestions for places to visit and instructions for using appliances etc. The feeling was one of complete peace, with beautiful unspoiled views over the seascape and ponies and chickens wandering in the neighboring fields. The sunroom was an added bonus with windows looking out to the bay.

We explored the north west and the north eastern areas of Skye in our day and a half, including Dunvegan castle and gardens which were amazing and unexpected, the beautiful little fishing village of Stein and its inn and the Trotternish peninsula with its incredible landscape and rock formations.

A very reasonably priced cottage in a good location. The beds were comfortable but the chairs in the lounge and sun room were less so. Well equipped and clean. We were pleased with our choice. The description of the property online emphasised the wonderful sunsets and we experienced a memorable one on the evening we arrived but we would like to suggest that the hedge is cut down or removed as it really restricts the marvellous view.
