Ty Newydd is a stunning stone build cottage located on the edge of beautiful lake Gerionydd. You'll be hard pressed to find a more idyllic spot to relax and get away from it all.

The property was lovely but there were some issues. Firstly, some more focused instructions/guidance for matters in the property, particularly with regard to the underfloor heating and heating generally. The heating could be set to operate without us having to read instructions for unfamiliar systems. The provision of logs would be nice as they do say in the house details that they should be provided. A nice touch would be a welcome pack with things like milk, bread etc. Would make us feel more welcome to the property. A consideration for more eco products, such as washing up liquid, would reflect the lovely location in nature. Not sure why the garage outside lights had to be on, again impacting on the opportunity for studying the night sky. Would have been useful to mention the car park opposite the property where we saw some late night comings and goings which detracted from the quietness.

This is a gorgeous cottage in a beautiful location. Many wonderful walks right from the doorstep. The lake is stunning and we would highly recommend a dip - a real highlight of our holiday.
The cottage itself is warm and cosy. The beds comfortable. Decent Wi-Fi if you make sure to sign into WIFI and not BT. Smart tv with lots of channels. Well stocked kitchen, spacious bathrooms with lovely hot showers. We would return

Ty Newydd provided a very comfortable, welcome break from every day life and the chance to step back to a digital free age. Although WiFi access is available, we decided to ditch the mobiles and enjoy long walks, wild swimming, home cooking and a “Wasgij”.
A perfect holiday. Highly recommended.

As a family we have been having days out at Llyn Geirionydd for over 20 years so when we spotted this holiday let it was a no brainer! We had a fantastic week in this idyllic location in a beautiful, well equipped home from home and the weather was perfect too! We swam, paddle boarded and canoed on the lake. Had wonderful walks, enjoyed beautiful sun rises and sun sets, then watching the awesome night sky -magical!
It is very remote, which suited us but if you require mobile phone and internet connection this may not be the place to be! We loved it and didn't even turn the TV on! A great place to reconnect with nature and totally chill out - we're already missing the simplicity of life, having time to reconnect with the natural world and the total change of pace! We would go back tomorrow!

If you want to unwind, swim in a natural lake and watch sunsets and the moon rise over the lake and green hills, this is the place for you.
The house is clean, comfortable and warm, providing breath taking views of the lake.
But, be prepared to navigate steep natural walkways, driving requires confidence and experience as the road leading to and from the house has many blind spots and very steep bends which you will have to reverse along to allow other cars to pass.
Stock up on essentials, handwash/washing up/dishwasher/washing machine/pegs. There is a large co op a fifteen minute drive away, also a bakery and small high Street.

Just returned from a great weeks holiday at Ty Newydd. It is in a phenomenal location, and is a very comfy place to stay. Plenty of space for our family of 4, and would have easily accommodated 6. Great for views, walks, but close enough to all the activities on offer in North Wales. Sadly a little let down by the garden which wasnt useable by our kids (not been tended to for many months and the grass was a couple of feet high - we were warned on the day of arrival, but the promised gardener did not arrive). Also, not the cleanest which was disappointing given the price. Other reviews mention the interesting route in - it is narrow and windy, but gets easier the more you do it, and adds to the remote feel of the place. The lake was a busy destination though - so will lekly be interesting during school holidays for meeting other vehicles - all in though, a great spot, and we'd hapilly return.

Great location for hiking, biking and paddleboarding and swimming in the lake was a bonus. Cottage comfortable enough but side room woth single beds not very comfortable for young adults. On damp days a suggestion to close the windows due to small flies would be helpful! Kitchen well equiped. Bath towels provided could be larger. Cottage had cobwebs so could have been cleaner.

Great place.
If you brought boots, bikes, paddle board, canoes etc and wet suits and a limited visits planned, excellent. If you wanted a base for exploring Eryri it might not be the best choice because of the lake's popularity and two miles of single track road.
We wrinklies loved the place and our family had bikes, boots, wet suits and a couple of planned visits.
Rubbish disposal was a bit of a problem. A couple of queries were quickly answered by Great Escapes.

How to I begin to review this beautiful place?! The drive was nerve-racking due to the single track roads, at times our 1litre car struggled with the steep declines and inclines! On arriving, and slowly driving up the steep slope to the house, we found the key and were welcomed into cottage by the underfloor heating and immediately removed our shoes!

Once unpacked, kettle on, we wanted to message our loved ones. Sadly, no phone signal or wi-fi to enable us to do that. A lot of the reviews in the guestbook mention this as being a positive, whilst I agree it’s fantastic to disconnect, there were times when brief internet access would’ve been brilliant. Thankfully no emergencies, so we coped. One of us was able to get a signal near the monument at the top of the lake, and the other on the path which winds up behind the cottage.

The house is like our dream home, not huge but big enough. The kitchen is well equipped, so we enjoyed cooking quite a bit in the evenings. There were only the two of us, so we chose the en-suite bedroom. Such a comfortable bed and duvet. (when we got home we bought a feather duvet!) We slept so well for our whole stay. The quiet, isolated nature of the cottage is something which appealed to us, and being able to see the stars so clearly at night was a great experience, only previously seen this clearly on a trip to the desert!

We were so lucky with the weather, we stayed in early September and the first day was windy and rainy, the rest of the week was sunny and warm. Our days were spent walking around the stunning landscape. During the week we walked to Betws-y-Coed, sat on the green and had lunch. Another day we walked to The Ugly House and Swallow Falls. The last of our longer walks was to Trefriw, which featured one of the steepest roads I’ve ever tried to walk down!
Other days we stayed local, and wondered around to Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Bodgynydd.

We were surprised on how active the car park across the lake was, particularly at night with overnight campers. It does make you feel somewhat vulnerable in dark. If you suffer from an overactive imagination, don’t take any horror films to watch at night. Watching Midsommar put an entirely different spin on being outdoors!

It was such a pleasant and relaxing break, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending or booking again. Thanks to the owners and great escapes wales for a hassle-free holiday. Hope to return soon.

Ty Newydd cottage is unbelievably beautiful!
The drive up was absolutely breathtaking & the view of the lake from the cottage was stunning.
The cottage is big & spacious, perfect for a secluded get away to escape from the hustle & bustle!
The cottage WiFi doesn’t work, & we found we didn’t get signal on our phones until we drove back down to the village, but in truth, not the end of the world!

We will definitely be back!

Comfortable cottage in stunning location, perfect for outdoor living and pursuits. Not great for small kids due to unguarded drops in garden. Direct access to footpaths and lake...fabulous! Great for Pete, although open plan can make containing them tricky! Well equipped kitchen.

The road leading to the property is exceptionally narrow and if you are unlucky, you will meet several cars coming the other way. Please be prepared for this, especially if you have a roof box or bikes on the roof as the trees do overhang the road.

Driveway is also rather tight - we found it best to reverse up the drive and leave the car level with the house.

Cottage itself is gorgeous, everything you need inside (apart from a sink plug and matches!!). Views are amazing and you never get tired of them. Always someone on the lake to watch or planes flying over from nearby RAF Valley.
No internet connection at all - we were hoping to at least be able to pick up emails and book activities/restaurants online (as we had read a previous review saying that it was possible). There is also no phone signal, so bear this in mind also. Nearest phone signal as at the top of the hill behind you which is about a 20 min walk. Good exercise when the weather is nice.

We had brought along bikes and a boat and were disappointed that there was no outdoor storage at all. Gets a bit tiresome having to lock the bikes to the car and to deflate the boat every evening. A shed in the back garden would be a great addition and much appreciated by those that bring along any outdoor kit.

Lots to do in the area, we walked up Devils Kitchen, day at the beach in Dinas Dinelle, day on the lake and walk to nearby Crafnant and a day at Llanberis. Didn't have time to do the Marin trail which is about 20 mins away from the cottage.

Lovely holiday with the perfect combination of relaxing and outdoor activities.

Ty Newydd is an idyllic, remote cottage which has been renovated to a high standard. It is in a remote location, access is not for the weak hearted and it comes with all the country "wildlife". We loved the location, the views are stunning, access to the lake is a safe and easy. We enjoyed dog walking, kayaking (take your own) swimming & Zip World which is close by. The owners have recently installed broadband as a pilot, whilst hit and miss with the weather, we found it was perfectly ok for email and messaging but not streaming. The two double bedrooms are a good size, very comfortable with lovely high quality bedding. The single room felt somewhat detached from the main house and isn't served by the underfloor heating so carried a musty smell which cleared over time (maybe we were the first guests for a while?) our teenagers didn't like it up there much.

Great Escapes were helpful and informative, some useful pre-stay material came through which helped us plan our week in advance which is necessary at the moment. We had a fantastic week, if you are looking for an active break with beautiful scenery this property is to be recommended.

This is a beautiful house in an equally beautiful location. The views and walks from the house are second to none. We had the most relaxing long weekend, spending the days walking and exploring the Gwydir forest and lakes which were on the doorstep, didnt even have to get in the car! The house had an amazing log burner, it was great to have such luxury with great bathrooms and comfort with everything catered for. The house is in such a private location, you feel like you have the lake all to yourself at times.
We will most certainly be back here, amazing introduction to wales!!!

Situated in a remote part of Snowdonia, this 4 star property has spectacular views across Lake Geirionydd. It easily accommodates 6 in a sympathetically upgraded spacious cottage. The fireplace lintel is dated 1779. Ty Newydd is warm and well equipped. If you like remote, nearest supermarket is 15 minutes away along narrow winding minor roads. A great place for walkers, naturalists, authors and artists. No broadband is a bonus at least for a week.

Important to arrive at the property in daylight. Park to the right of the cottage for unloading your car.

All our party were blown away by the cottage, the views and the stunning location. It was well equipped, cosy and comfortable. All our party commented on the joy of waking up to birdsong, no traffic noise, and the peace and tranquility of the location.

Even though the weather was poor, especially for the time of year we still got out and enjoyed the walks. There is a cafe located a reasonable walk away at the other lake which serves a great cakes and food (including gluten free bread) with a joke and a smile and is well worth a visit. From the cottage we could see people canoeing and paddle boarding on the lake, but it was in the distance and was interesting and never intrusive . The area offers so much, from walking, cycling, rock climbing, sightseeing etc,.

If you want a peaceful getaway off the beaten track, I would thoroughly recommend this place. Great Escapes Wales were quick and helpful in replying to queries when we booked the cottage.

It is in an excellent location a few small things let it down. It was a shame there had not been anybody in the week before and it had not been checked. We found mouse droppings in the wardrobe in the annex and oil splashed up the back of the cooker. Empty packets under the settee and i'm afraid the telly is on its way out. But all that said it's a great place and swimming in the lake was great and all the walks.
The last few miles can be a bit tight if you have a big car but our daughter thought it was great in her small one.
It is a beautiful part of the country and well worth a visit.

We are so pleased to hear that overall you had a great time at Ty Newydd. The mentioned housekeeping issues have been discussed with the owner & housekeeper so there should be no repeat going forward. The owners have also investigated the 'droppings' and it appears these were from bats, which are protected. The tiny gap from which they fell has now been sealed. In order to help future guests we have added the reference to the phone signal to our advertisements of the cottage. Thank you

A great get-away!

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place, excellent accommodation. You need to take everything with you though, unless you can have a trip out to the shops. Next time we’d take some games and dvds, there is no WiFi, which was great for us. There is a lake that’s used by people who want to canoe and suchlike. We went on a bank holiday, so it didn’t seem very quiet at all, however it died down. Some great walks and cycle routes. Our only problem was the bins. There was only one bin near the end of the lane, which was full, used by those visiting the lake. We had nowhere to put our rubbish. We took all our recycling with us, just down the road there’s some recycling bins near a small school. The accommodation was spotless, very well presented and had great grounds - be careful with small children. Thouroghly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Beautiful location, lovely house though I wouldn't class as luxurious.
One of the showers didn't work properly which had been noted by previous rentals but not fixed.
Stingy with the logs for the burner.

Having bats in the roof was a great bonus, and bliss not having wifi.
Lake can get busy and noisy when weather good, so needs bearing in mind in 'high season' if you want a peaceful stay.
There are no canoes ,,as stated by a previous reviewer , they were locked away.

Having said all that it was a wonderful place to sit with a G&T after a hard day in the hills.

The location of the property is amazing. There are so many walks and with canoes in the garage, you can stock up with food and stay put! If you do decide to go out, there are so many places to visit - climbing Snowdon, cycling (Coed y Brenin great for this), and there are the zip wires - the caverns - underground caving, climbing and zip wires is a must for those feeling adventurous - expensive but well worth the money.
The property itself is very comfortable - only negative according to my kids is that there is no wifi or mobile phone signal. However you can get this while out walking and in the town.
We took two dogs and there are plenty of sheep free walks.

I contacted Great Escape Wales a week ago to register feedback. I've not heard back from them.
To summarise - we had a lovely time, the property was nice and well appointed, BUT.... there several 'minor' things that we felt could have been addressed before our visit - and definitely should be addressed now we've given appropriate feedback.
The holiday itself was great though - there are lots of things to do in the area for people of all ages and interests.
There were lots of brochures in the property for places to visit and events, the kitchen was well stocked of crockery and cutlery, and there was even a complimentary pint of milk in the fridge on arrival (thanks!) and a few teabags. :)

However, we did encounter a number of gripes:

First, the lighting - almost every room had lights out or missing. Most rooms have multiple missing lights. We felt the volume of faulty lights was unacceptable.
There was a light stand fixture in the living room with two lights - both were out or the unit was faulty. This meant low-lighting in the room was not possible without having to 'borrow' a table lamp from another room. There were also two bulbs out near the tv area, and a further two lights out from under the fireplace. That's all in one room! One of the two fireplace lights I was able to replace myself as there were spare bulbs. From the living room to the 'games room' there is a corridor which had one light - it was out (again I was able to replace this myself). The games room itself has two light stands - one was faulty or the light blown. Also a ceiling light in that room was blown. Up the stairs from the games area there was a room with two single beds. We didn't use the room but found again two light stand units - only one was working. The room itself has five ceiling lights of which only one was working!! The kitchen had one light out, plus the oven unit's two extractor fan lights were also non-working. Upstairs in the first bedroom there were two light units of which one was missing a bulb! The main bedroom with ensuite had two lights not working and the ensuite had one light not working. I enclosed pictures, but from the above list, that totals nineteen bulbs at fault! As mentioned we believe that to be an unacceptable amount of faulty lights and should be addressed for future visitors. Perhaps in the cleaning and maintenance between guests a rudimentary light-check could be performed.

Fleas - as I write, I'm careful not to lift the scab off of my many bites. We both come back with a number of bites which we seemed to get each day from both the sofa and bed. This we were particularly disgruntled about!
We realise dogs are allowed at the property and it specifies that pets are not allowed on furniture but I imagine this advice is being ignored! My other half caught a flea and drowned it in a glass. However, that was the only flea we actually caught and visibly saw and it was on the first day so other bites may not necessarily be fleas themselves, but are certain the bites eminate from the house and are not from the waters-edge or something we've brought in. I'd suggest that if a pet is going to stay that the property that it is even more rigorously cleaned!

Remote Control - The Sky TV remote control has worn buttons and rattles as if internal parts are broken. Several buttons do not work such as the bottom row and zero. The channel-up and channel-down buttons work, but to reach channel 110 for example requires entering 111 and going back one. A minor inconvenience - and a little frustrating - I believe replacement remotes are about £15 and I advised one should be purchased. When paying so much for a property that advertises this feature, it is expected that the unit can be used!

Nuisance Phone Calls - Wow! What can I say! I think the owner might be on some marketing list as the phone rang, on average 5 - 8 times per day from 09:30 to 18:00. We were out most of the time but the afternoons or mornings we were there we were inundated will calls. We ignored the first 4 or 5 calls, but thought we should answer in case it's the owner or Great Escape Wales trying to reach us as we had no phone signal ourselves. I can imagine this distressing someone older that's less active and who spends more time in the property. One afternoon we watched a 90 minute film (around 4pm) and counted 4x calls.

Blemishes/Marks/Cleanliness - There are a number of areas that need attention regards cleanliness. In particular the cooker hood - it was splattered with marks and above on the ceiling the paper was peeling. The peeling is perhaps expected, but the cooker hood looked mucky. Up the stairs there were presumably quite old cobwebs as they had amassed in size. The barbecue unit had not been cleaned from previous usage and we did not use it. It is worth making note of these marks so as not to incur a charge on the large damage deposit. From experience, we made sure to take pictures on arrival in full.

Potholes - The drive up to the property was filled with large potholes and the driveway itself looks like cars have wheel-spun on it presumably for traction - which actually compounds the issue of traction. We struggled to get up the drive in first gear without a reasonable 'run-up' without even our wheels spinning a little. Not a complaint as such, but something to be aware of. We have a fairly run-of-themill 1.6l engine car and it rattled through potholes and struggled up the drive.

The front door is really difficult to lock/unlock quite often. I genuinely think this could be a fire hazard - being unable to easily unlock a door in an emergency from the inside could be fatal (getting in also proved difficult!). Perhaps a bit of WD40 might fix this?

The bins we were to use were overflowing! We only used one bag for our entire stay - I don't know how many people the bins are supposed to service.

Each issue in isolation is a minor gripe, but as you might imagine, the issues above in aggregation affected the quality we expected. I realise we could have got in contact with someone during our holiday - but although frustrating there was nothing so significant an issue to request action on However, we didn't expect to return home itching and boil wash all our clothing! and we didn't want to impact on our holiday.

Over all it was enjoyable, but I think the cost of rental versus the inconveniences and issues incurred make it very expensive. We both expected a greater level of quality and feel slightly let down.

Would I recommend it to others - yes and no. I wouldn't discourage anyone from staying, but I'd want to know that the above have been addressed before I advise others to book this property rather than other similar ones.

We had a wonderful holiday. The cottage is in a wonderful location, it is well equipped and well worth paying a little extra for. We were really sad to be leaving the cottage and the beautiful environment.

The absence of Wi-Fi was great!!!

Our family of 4 adults and two children spent 7 glorious days at Llyn Geirionydd in the north west of Wales. Ty Newydd is conveniently located at the edge of the lake allowing for dramatic views and the peaceful sound of the water. The boys learnt how to fish and enjoyed paddling around the lake. We took spectacular walks across the woods and fields and spent a delightful day at Bodnant gardens nearby. Theread was no automobile traffic close to the house which made the property relatively childproof.

Set right out of the way amongst woodland and lake views, this cottage is very pleasant. With fantastic views and trails for walking right on the doorstep this cottage was perfect to escape from the hustle and bustle. You could even escape the phone as there is no mobile signal at all. The cottage itself was very cosy with a wood burning stove and underfloor heating. The kitchen and bathrooms were in contrast very modern. Perfect layout for us as were only two couples and slept in the two double bedrooms, one with en-suite. Very comfortable beds. Only down side if you were two more, the twin bedroom over the games room has no facilities and steep open stairs but suitable for teenagers. As this cottage is dog friendly, which is a big advantage as surroundings are perfect for dogs, it really could do with a stair gate to stop them accessing the carpeted area upstairs. As we went for Christmas it was very wet and windy and inevitable muddy, so would have been easier. So go well equipped for weather and supplies as no shop for 2 or 3 miles and larger supermarket in the next village. Also a 4 x 4 preferable to cope with those rough winding lanes and floods. Overall a very unique property.

Stayed for a week to get away from it all. In a great location, a very comfortable house with very little (no) mobile or wifi signal - it wasn't hard to relax. Some great walks straight from the door. Definitely on the list of places to return to.

Good location for exploring North Wales which exceeded my expectations: great walks and friendly people. All the rooms in the cottage were to our liking and the garden was a nice place to relax after a day in the hills.

Ty Newydd is a beautiful, comfortable stone built cottage with a modern interior. The views from every window are stunning! The house is located in the Snowdonia National Park so be prepared for a winding single track road with steep inclines. However, even this long drive in has beautiful scenery. The lake is ideal for paddling, swimming and boating and there is a shallow entry point a few minutes walk from the house. The town of Llanrwst has a small Spar, a reasonable size Co-op to buy groceries and Boots chemist and numerous places to eat. We could get no mobile signal at the house but there is a landline telephone. There are plenty of tourist attractions for all ages and tastes in the area. Overall highly recommended.

A Holiday in a lovely comfortable cottage with a fantastic view. It would have been superb and would have had a higher rating if there had been comfortable outdoor furniture, more wine glasses that fitted the dishwasher and a washing line.

The house is beautifully located next to the lake with good walks from the front door. The living/dining room are well furnished and comfortable for 6/7 people. The kitchen has pretty much everything one needs.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are light, airy, with sufficient storage space, and all have stunning views. The outdoor space is lovely - we managed to have breakfast on the terrace.

Lovely cottage with beautiful views. Had a very relaxing time. The cottage is well equipped and clean. There is no phone signal or internet connection which was an added bonus, helped us spend quality time with each other. Every room in the cottage has a lovely view and the bench outside overlooking the lake was perfect to have breakfast or lunches especially on a nice sunny day. The only problem I faced is that the access from the main road to the cottage, it was a 10min drive on a bad road and being 5 months pregnant I was not very comfortable with it. But once you get to the cottage you forget all about it, the beautiful views more than make up for it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay comments below are constructive critism only. The cottage is located in an ideal location for what we were looking for. The road to the cottage did not put us off but I feel the brochures should advise it is remote on a remote road. On arrival the fire had not been cleaned & the "basket of logs supplied" was empty there was a broken glass in a bucket at the front of the cottage. (not a problem for us but we were thinking of bringing the young grandchildren back next year) the latch for the gate was broken & the beautiful view could not been seen as the windows were desperately in need of a clean. Normally these small things wouldn't bother us but for a £1000 per week you would expect everything to be spot on?
Again not an issue for us but the quantity of glasses I think would struggle to supply 4 people let alone 7?

As a foot note thoroughly enjoyed our week away & are looking to book again next year however compared to similar properties we have booked before it was a bit expensive. (usually we pay around £750-£800) .
