Coulscott’s white Georgian manor and original farmhouse peak through the trees in a lovely leafy valley near the North Devon coast but closer inspection reveals an exclusive hamlet of stunning holiday cottages and fantastic family facilities. Indoors and out, children and grown-ups alike are spoiled rotten, staying in the lap of luxury and having so many ways to while away the days without leaving the glorious 16 acres of grounds.

There are 7 properties at Coulscott, comprising Coulscott House, Georgian House, the Old Farmhouse, The Old Barn and three cosy cottages created from the old farm buildings. All of them have been designed and furnished to stunning standards which would be perfectly placed in the pages of swish interiors magazines.

From magnificent galleried living rooms to sumptuous period elegance, Travertine tiled bathrooms and four poster beds, all the properties provide somewhere special for families, and of course they come with all the baby and toddler essentials as well.

The home entertainment is bang up to date, including Smart TV’s, Sky free view, and unlimited WiFi, plus hot tubs where grown-ups can soothe away the stress with a glass of bubbly, admiring amazing views or gazing at the stars. If parents can’t be bothered to cook, a wide range of frozen ready meals from ‘COOK’ are available to buy from the honesty shop, along with delicious local ice cream or book our fabulous private chef to cook you a sumptuous 3 course meal or amazing tasting menu.

What’s especially great about Coulscott for families are the superb facilities that will keep everyone happy whatever the weather. The lovely indoor pool is toasty whatever the weather with seats around the side to kick back with a book. An adjoining games room includes table tennis and table football, whilst babies and toddlers have their own soft playroom, with giant Liquorice Allsorts! There's also a new communal firepit which is great for toasting marshmallows on come sunset!

There are acres of garden and grounds for children to play hide and seek, have picnics by a stream or build dens in the woods, plus a outdoor play area includes a wooden pirate ship, 2-storey Wendy House, adventure climbing frame and swings, custom made tractor with a slide, and a large, netted trampoline.

Children may well meet a peacock strutting around the garden and will be delighted to get acquainted with the Coulscott menagerie of hens and ducks, alpacas, pygmy goats, pigs, lambs, rabbits and guinea pigs. Other wildlife are regular visitors to Coulscott, including owls, foxes and badgers who might just make an appearance in the dusky twilight.

Accommodation Overview:

Coulscott comprises 8-bedroom Coulscott House, 5-bedroom Old Barn, 5-bedroom Georgian House, 3-bedroom Old Farmhouse, 2 bedroom Peacock and Aylesbury Cottages and 1-bedroom Bantam Cottage, all set in 16 acres of gardens and grounds with an indoor pool, adventure play area and friendly animals

Peacock Cottage (sleeps 4 + cots), with its 4-star gold award from Visit England, is a pretty stone cottage, which has been beautifully furnished and finished to combine authentic character with modern flair. The living/dining room is bright and cosy, with a cosy log burner, a pair of comfortable sofas, Sky freeview Smart TV The kitchen is modern. integrated and well equipped, including a dishwasher, microwave and hand blender for whizzing up baby food. The master bedroom has a king size 4-poster and the second bedroom has twin beds. The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. Peacock Cottage has a private lawn garden with furniture and a barbecue. When Peacock, Aylesbury and Bantam Cottages are booked together dining facilities are available for 10 people.

A delightful and comfortable property, attentive but not over-bearing owner, Amide, who was in hand to answer questions if required. Facilities well kept and as described- easy to access and use. Cottage was well equipped (only thing we couldn’t find was a cheese grater). Very helpful to have a dog walking loop on site. Well placed for local attractions too. Children thoroughly enjoyed the play areas and animals. Would definitely stay again.

We had a lovely week at Peacock cottage; 2 adults and a 5 year old. The property is lovely and the grounds of Coulscott really make it. Feeding the animals every day and swimming before breakfast we’re our highlights, plus board games in the cottage when it was wet outside.

We had a great time at Coulscott. It was the perfect place to truly relax with our two year old son.
We spent so much time in the grounds and on the property. So much to do for our little one, feeding the animals, playing in the play areas and our favourite thing to do was swim in the pool everyday.

Our cottage was perfect for the three of us and a short drive from the beach. Such a peaceful and beautiful setting.

Alice was very helpful and friendly.

Thanks so much.

In need of a last minute weekend away, we were lucky enough to find availability at Peacock Cottage…and what a fantastic weekend it was.
Visiting with our 6 year old daughter, we were looking for somewhere with enough space for the 3 of us, a good location for day trips and some facilities for children - Peacock Cottage had it all, and more!

We had a very friendly welcome from Alice and were made to feel at home.

The cottage was very comfortable with lovely decor (I particularly liked the main bedroom) and very well equipped, including with books and games which delighted my daughter as well as a kitchen with everything you could need. The inclusion of slippers and bathrobes made the stay feel more homely than I would usually expect in a cottage stay.

Across the estate, the facilities were also impressive from the indoor pool with plenty of pool toys, the games room and soft play, kitchen garden and children’s play areas - all very well maintained. The highlight of the stay for our daughter were the animals - she was so excited to visit them and take them treats…particularly the very friendly pigs.

I look forward to returning to Coulscott for another stay.

The owner Alice was just amazing from the moment we booked to the time we left. Anything we needed she was only too happy to help and super efficient. They really thought of everything to keep dogs, parents and kids happy. The location was a little more off the beaten track than I realised so wouldn’t be keen driving country road in bad weather but it’s well worth it for the utter tranquility and views. Hate to say anything negative as was really incredible but unfortunately our mattress wasn’t very comfy and neither was the sofa however I guess everyone is used to certain home comforts, we like very soft and squashy furnishings! Love to come back again

If you’re looking for somewhere that you can relax, entertain small children and take the dog in a great location this is the place.

Brilliant play area and swimming pool, also great to be able to feed the animals.

The views and scenery are breathtaking and the surrounding beaches are easy to get to.

The cottage was spotless and had everything you could possibly need, Alice was so accommodating and couldn’t do enough for us, we will most definitely be back.

Thank you for a wonderful break!

We booked this as a last minute after our daughter contacted Alice and luckily someone had cancelled. The whole place was great. Our cottage wanted fir nothing, it was in great cindition snd very clean. We were greated by Owner Alice who took the time to show us around, heated indoor pool was a good bonus. Also had outdoor play park including wendy out and football pitch. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this place to anyone, very quiet in a valley but only 5 min drive to Combe Martin

We enjoyed a perfectly lovely week in the Peacock Cottage. Very well appointed kitchen with all the utensils you could need for a week away. Gorgeous little garden, even if it's a bit steep to climb to, the views are wonderful! Clean and tidy. Enjoyed the pool, booking exclusively for your family, so felt very safe. Plenty of facilities to cater for all ages and picturesque views from the valley. Of course you have all the wonderful areas to visit that North Devon has to offer, we discovered the Hunter's Inn at Heddon's Valley, stunning walk from Woody Bay this time. Can't wait to come back. Thanks to Alice for a wonderful and relaxing holiday!

This was a repeat stay, and we booked for next year before we left, that probably says everything.

It just keeps better. The cottages and grounds are amazing, and paradise for children. You can visit the animals whenever or take part in feeding at set times.

It's a little out of the way, in terms of walking to places, but a 5 min drive to the nearest cove (a lovely family safe beach) and Ilfracombe and Woolacombe are close too. Lots of other attractions in North Devon are very reachable if you want to leave the site but you could stay there the whole time and never be bored (we have to pull my children away from the playground!)

The collaborations (massage therapist, art, ice cream van etc) are well thought out and means you can add to your holiday easily.

Special mention to the pool which is well heated and a great size. There is something very special about Coulscott and we cant wait to return.

Peacock Cottage is great and well suited to a family of four. The child equipment is always well thought out (eg. Toilet seat, step, highchair, bed guard) and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. It's a nice touch to provide cleaning equipment, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets etc. There is a good honesty shop too so you're never stuck.

If there is ever a problem or query the team respond promptly.

Wouldnt hesitate to recommend

We booked a last minute getaway and stayed in Peacock cottage. The cottage was lovely with everything and more you could need. We were also able to bring the dog which was great, lovely touch with the dog treats and dog tag.
Alice was so helpful and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. My girls absolutely loved feeding the animals and having plenty of cuddles with the bunnies. The nearest beach was only 5 minutes in the car. The swimming pool was amazing, the booking system worked so well.
We will be returning as soon as we can! Absolutely loved it

We had a lovely time at Coulscott. They have done all they can to adapt to CVID and keep facilities available. Play area, pool, grounds and animals all lovely and Andrew took a lot of time to personally show our girls feeding time which was appreciated. Booking system for swimming worked well. Lots of places to visit. Washing machine room appreciated.
Cottage was cosy - only downside no draw space which meant living out of suit cases. Appreciate we had the remaining 2 bedroom cottage and unsure how they would fit but would have been nice to put clothes away. Didn't detract from stay tho and would return.

What a great place to have a family break. The indoor swimming pool was really clean and perfect temperature for our 1 and 3 year olds. The outdoor play area was an excellent addition although our use of these was reduced by the rain. Use of the indoor play area was prevented due to Covid, but I feel that this could also be opened and utilise the same booking system used for the pool.
Ideal location for local beaches and attractions. Would recommend the dinosaur park for an excellent day out.

Beautiful retreat, especially during the COVID time. Andrew and Roy were helpful and welcoming. The swimming pool was clean and it was nice to be able to book it out as a family. The playground was amazing- well kept and lots of choice. Amazing views! Grounds and animal area both fantastic. Only downside to this particular cottage for us was that our children were too young to use the garden as it was separated from the cottage due to the hilly landscape. Wasn’t a problem as grounds were excellent. We had an absolutely amazing family break.

We enjoyed a fantastic break at Coulscott with our two young children. The cottage was of a high standard and very homely. It provided everything we could want for our 1 year old daughter including cot, high chair, stair gates which enabled us to settle quickly and helped hugely with space in the car boot. Our 3 year old son was overjoyed with the pirate ship in the garden and had his cousins walking the plank! The stream and grassy trails provided space for adventure and visiting the animals was a daily highlight with a wallaby and alpaca not animals our son had previously encountered.
The beaches nearby were fabulous and we also enjoyed walks on Exmoor, a scenic cycle along the river on the Tarka Trail, fish and chips from the shop by Combe Martin bay and trip to the dinosaur park.
Can't wait to return next year!

We had a lovely family holiday here with our 1year old son. The cottage was very picturesque and nicely decorated. We made good use of the indoor swimming pool which was well equipped with floats and noodles etc to play with. The added extra of the soft play room and ball pool meant there was always something to do to fill in time or on a rainy day! Our son enjoyed seeing all the animals up close and watching them get fed too.

We are a family with two children under three. The cottage had everything we needed, and was spotless. We used all the facilities - the toddler loved the playground there was lots to do, and the pool was great. Having the soft play area to take baby into was nice. A real highlight was the lovely setting and seeing and feeding the animals, toddler loved it.

The cottage has three steep steps between kitchen and living area -there are good stair gates in the property. It’s set into a hill so has steps to the door and up to the garden.

Coulscott offers excellent facilities and an informal relaxed atmosphere. The owners are welcoming but not intrusive and they clearly look after the properties and facilities meticulously.
We have previously stayed at Clydey Cottages in Wales on several occasions and would put the facilities and accommodation of Coulscott on a par, and although the animal feeding experience for the children is less of a feature the cost of Coulscott is significantly lower. There is a lot to do nearby as well and some lovely beaches and villages.

This is our fifth time at Coulscott. We first visited with our eighteen month daughter in 2011 and have regularly returned ever since.
If you have young children you really can’t beat Coulscott. From the animals to the pirate ship to the trampoline to the swimming pool, there is no shortage of things to entertain. Given the slight unpredictabilities of the British weather, this is invaluable.

The cottages are beautifully presented with everything you would need for a relaxing stay. The beds are wonderfully comfortable as well!

We love to explore the North Devon beaches and Exmoor countryside when we are here. We can’t recommemd Coulscott enough.

Thank you Sue and Andrew for another wonderful break!
