Our stay in Mallard Lodge at Headlands was lovely.. from the very polite team in the coffee shop to the cleaning team who obviously know how to do their job! 10/10. Complementary eggs. orange juice, butter, olive oil, jam.. and not the usual 2 small coffee sachets like some places.. a pot full of tea, coffee, sugar & milk. Thank you. Now, the fishing which is why I was there.. very weedy, however if you find a clear patch then it is fantastic.. had a few bream.. and a stunning 23lb mirror carp.. it’s certainly not easy.. but the longer you stayed the more you’d learn. Excellent facilities made for a fantastic birthday weekend. The hosts and staff are super friendly and helpful, the lodge was lovely too. Fishing straight from the lodge was excellent, but alas no fish caught! The sauna, cold plunge and Padel Tennis made for an excellent afternoon away from the rods!
Stayed 4 nights, have stayed here on 3 occasions. The property is always spotless and has everything required. Able to fish (and catch) directly from the property, saves me the hassle of setting up each day. The onsite cafe is really good and very handy. Within a short drive is the New Forest and the coast. Loads of good pubs to frequent, Gunwharf only 40 minutes away. Hosts are very helpful and quickly respond
Fishing was tough, lots of weed. Welcome basket was great. Would have been nice to know what was in it. So we could bring bits and pieces. A bath mat in the shower would be nice. Managed to see a Tawny Owl one evening whilst fishing. Plenty of wildlife around the lake. Cafe great for breakfast. Would go back but probably once the weed has gone. Great place to stay.
Oh my goodness what to say about Headlands. We are so sad to leave! Me, my husband and our little dog stayed for three nights and had the best time ever. We played padel, used the wellness centre, booked in for massages and visited the amazing club house for breakfast and lunch - so this is a very well informed review. We have never felt so peaceful. We will absolutely be returning, so worth our journey from North Wales.
Beautiful beautiful lodge very comfortable very clean just a couple of niggles , flooring needs a bit of attention in kitchen/diner & shower head needs descaling. Such a wicked shower if it worked properly. This is just me ,, gorgeous outside space with uncomfortable seating. Came for some R&R which you would get if there wasn’t a man going round and round and round all day on a very noisy golf buggy thing .
