Ty Bach in Llanberis is a traditional stone cottage in the heart of Snowdonia. It’s a cute and well-equipped one-bedroom property that makes a cosy and comfortable base from which to enjoy Llanberis and Snowdonia.

Disappointed stay

I booked this cottage off Oyster cottages site for my birthday weekend. The spec of the cottage location and pictures were exactly what we were looking for to spend a relaxing extended weekend away. From the moment we arrived the steps and gate to the property looked disheveled overgrown, the gate latch was falling off so you had to push against it to ensure it was secure. The little yard looked unkempt the BBQ advertised was dirty and look like it had seen better days there’s a galvanised bin full of water and rubbish. Once inside on first look the cottage looked ok but once we came in under the stairs there was a dirty old mop and bucked a hoover which was half full a bucket and random spray mop which again looked like it had seen better days. The kitchen appear reasonable although clearly not seen a duster any other cleaning in a while. There were used scrubbing sponges and a used cloth at the sink, no washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets and it doesn’t advise you to bring any with you either so this was an added cost.
Upstairs the bedroom was roomy the bed was comfy but the valence sheet had several areas of mud on looked like from muddy shoes. Then the worst was the bathroom this is nothing like the pictures which make it look clean new and sparkling, this was the total opposite. One toilet roll no extras for a 3 night stay. The sink was dirty around the plug hole and under the taps have not been cleaned is several months. The shower well that was absolutely disgusting. I had to stop the shower 5 minutes in as the water was about to come over the tray as the plug hole was not draining. On inspection (lucky I am a nurse and have a strong stomach) the silver cap was full of sludge the plug hole full of hair and gunge which is cleared just to be able to finish showering. The shower continued to be full of debris from the plug hole. The mould around the silicone seal and up the glass shower screen was disgusting and needs removing and replacing.
Overall the house was unkempt cobwebs everywhere dust and dirt in corners especially in the lounge and kitchen. The cottage desperately needs TLC a new shower screen and plumbing and an overall good clean.
I have pictures of what I removed from the shower if you would like me to send them over separately.
We where really disappointed with this cottage, and on further investigation the above issues are not new from reviews on previous sites which is really not fair on people spending good money especially in this day and age.

The place felt unloved and unclean. It felt very ‘doggy’ and dusty downstairs. The rug in the living room looked dirty. There was dog food on the floor and hairs on the sofa. Quite a lot of the kitchen utensils were dirty. The shower was not clean with hairs and gunk and it did not drain properly. The loo seat was broken too. The lights did not work properly either (kept flickering). There was no loo roll or washing up liquid when we arrived which wasn’t a big issue but was disappointing (have normally had this provided when staying in a self catered place). The hosts were helpful and communicative and the location was excellent but overall was let down by the cleanliness and condition of the place.
