Perfectly located in a beautiful part of Orkney with easy access to Stromness, Kirkwall and all the main tourist sites. An excellent hotel ten minutes walk from the cottage. A well stocked Coop and a wonderful butcher's shop stocking local meat in Dounby - five minutes by car.
Algarth is a new build literally just round the corner from the ferry terminal at Stromness. Situated in a small estate, and within walking distance of Stromness, the house is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, cosy, and comfortable. The fixtures and fittings are all modern and the owner has helpfully left a folder with the instruction leaflets for the appliances, the shower and the heating system - I especially recommend reading the latter two! An absolutely beautiful house in an excellent location. Handy for the ferry terminal, Kirkwall and all the Mainland attractions. House has everything you need for a stay.
Overall the cottage was located very handily for all of Stromness & could not be faulted on its cleanliness nor its facilities. It certainly gives a good view from the living room due to the ‘Upside down’ living arrangements. For anyone with mobility problems the stairs may be an issue due to being spiral and rather steep, due to the size of the property.
The location is just superb. I have been visiting Orkney for 35 years for business and pleasure, sometimes twice a year, and this has to be amongst the best locations. I think the directions need to be improved and the wi fi password given in the 'welcome' email is incorrect. There is a card in the lounge with the correct details which I found after waiting a lot of time. See below for my comments on the quite useless wi fi.
