We had an amazing 3 night stay at Blackgrouse lodge. The house is stunning and the lodge has a very homely feel to it and everything has been thought through. The hot tub was lovely and the views of the cairngorms is stunning. The lodge was very clean upon arrival minus the pull out bed in the bedroom for 4. All other bedrooms ans bathrooms are very modern and of high quality. Any issues we had were dealt with quickly. There does however appear to be rats nesting under the outdoor decking which I have reported to maintenance which could be a problem for the summer. We couldn't seem to get the living room door to open however otherwise we had an amazing stay and will be back. We didn't want to leave.

The house suited our needs as a birthday celebration with all the family,
. Good points - space, location , hot tub
Negative points - bbq cooking rack not clean, freezer not cleaned out , iced up icecube trays and food in the bottom of it .
Stained duvet and pillow in one of the rooms.
It’s says enclosed garden but there is no gate on it and it doesn’t mention that there is a pond in the garden.
For what you pay should not be expected to put out rubbish, strip beds and make sure dishwasher is empty.
It took away the enjoyed of the family break.

Black Grouse is great accommodation for families, with plenty of social spaces and lovely bedrooms with en-suites. The hot tub and garden have fantastic views of the Cairngorms and are private. We are returning customers and have booked again as we really enjoy our time here. A couple of improvements that would make the experience even better would be a bigger fridge freezer and a smart tv in the lounge.

I have never written a poor review before but don't want others to be dissapointed like I was. Arrived at 3.50pm on the 6th April to meet someone leaving the lodge saying that the floors had just been mopped so to mind how I go. Floors were indeed wet. Pros clean floors cons didn't want wet socks or foot print marks. After waiting for floors to dry did the usual exploring of the property to find:
Poor house keeping - rubbish (orange peels and left behind children's toys) under sofas; dog hair and pine needles on the living room carpet; mantlepiece, light shades, ornaments were dusty; windows unclean (spoiled the stunning views); most remote controls were super grubby; glassware and cups needed cleaned before using; crumbs in chopping board cupboard; messy disorganised kitchen drawers and cupboards; rubbish in my bedside drawer; fingerprints on master bedroom mirrors; did a load of washing and it came out full of dog hair; the base of the slats in the dining room chairs were thick with debris (crumbs and dog hair).

Tired/old fashioned decor - cheap and dull lighting in the living room; poor soft furnishings - lack of rugs, flat sparse cushions, mismatched cups/crockery etc; basic serving dishes; old worn placemats; fireside companion set really old dirty and nothing to poke the fire with; bed runners old fashioned;

General lack of attention to detail - The little touches that make you feel like a welcome guest were sorely missing. Out of date 'appliance folder' (torn pages) lots of instruction manuals for appliances that didn't exist and the tone of the folder was "DO NOT do this that and the other" - I felt like I was getting reprimanded before even sitting down. Logs dumped still in net in the log basket - normally this area is provided looking inviting and sometimes the fire is built ready to light. Some toilet rolls had such minimal paper on them, they should have been replaced and similarly some hand wash bottles had low soap and were squashed and very used looking - again should have been replaced. The lack of cleanliness was a sore point. I felt insulted that this was what my money was worth. I haven't asked for any form of refund and I will be very surprised if it is offered.

Customer service - I made Great North Lodges aware of my disappointment on the second day of our stay. Jenny called me the following morning to offer to send a cleaning crew round. I declined due the fact that we had students staying that were spending a day studying and someone else in our group who was unwell and wanted time in a lodge to rest and recover. A cleaning crew would have needed to spend many hours to bring the property up to luxury standards and this would have been highly disruptive (we were now on day 3 of a 4 night stay). Jenny apologised for the cleanliness issue and explained that the week before was the Easter weekend and people were very busy. When I mentioned the floors being wet on our arrival she turned this into a positive by saying, "Well that's a good thing that the floors were cleaned."

I have been renting homes all over Scotland during busy periods for many years and have always enjoyed the pride and effort that holiday let owners put into making your stay feel special. I am always mindful of the costs and aware that this reflects on the experience but I was expecting high standards for this property - Great North Lodges must put good money into their advertising and social media presence. I spent my hard earned money on a property that unfortunately came up short. I would be interested to know what comes of this review.

Loved our stay here, fabulous property, only issue was several old cobwebs and dust in areas that were obviously being overlooked when cleaning and the vacuum cleaner wasn’t leaving the carpets clean. The lounge carpet wasn’t clean when we arrived and after several attempts to clean it ourselves there was still dog hair from previous occupants left on the carpet. Deep clean and new vacuum capable of picking up dog hair recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Grouse Lodge the house had everything to cater for all ages a trampoline, hot tub, a good variety of board games.
The house was beautifully situated, the views with a morning coffee from the balcony were simply breathtaking! It was a short walk into Aviemore and a short drive to gorgeous walks.
The kitchen was well equipped and everything was clean and well organised.
We will definitely return!

The property was in a good location and very spacious, easily accommodating a large group. Views were excellent and there was a big garden although it wasn't fully enclosed as states in the description.
The kitchen was reasonable stocked with equipment and had 2 fridges and a small freezer.
We had a few issues with the hot water and shower temperatures were variable between rooms.
The main disappointment was the standard of housekeeping. While it appeared generally clean there were a few issues such as dirty BBQ grill, food left in the freezer, dirty washbasin plug hole and lack of protective cover over a stained mattress in one room (hopefully an oversight on this occasion).
Assuming the housekeeping improved I would happily recommend the property to others

Second year I have stayed in BGL with friends and already booked for next year We go to relax, catch up and enjoy the spacious house and hot tub. Great that 3 of the 4 bedrooms are en suites which saves any queues!!. House lovely and warm, especially when log fire lit Smart TV to watch Xmas movies via Netflix etc. Would have been nice to have some Xmas decorations up. Maybe next year Car required if you want to get around or replenish your groceries at Tesco. Overall perfect stay ❤️

The lodge is spacious and comfortable in all areas and more than enough room for six adults an three children. However we found that relaxing at the large kitchen table in comfort made moving into the huge lounge redundant.
The gardens are well kept and the hot tub is an added attraction to those wishing to relax there.
Small complaints:
One of the range ovens is unusable for cooking as the door does not close - only mentioned just prior to arrival - and, during our stay, the whole range tripped on a number of occasions requiring a change in our eating plans.

Directions given prior to arrival could be better as all three cars had difficulty in finding the lodge

All in all - we had a wonderful stay and hope to come back again

We stayed for 7 nights with our two daughters, their husbands and babies aged 17 and 10months. The house was perfect for our group. The large carpeted sitting room, with comfortable sofas was ideal for babies at the crawling and starting to walk stage. Stunning views and the excellent hot tub made it a lovely place to relax and the close proximity to the Aviemore Orbital path made it great for walks. Beds were very comfortable and apart from the one oven door being out of order the kitchen was ideal. On one cool evening we enjoyed the use of the living room fire and plenty of wood supplied.
The bathrooms were beautifully fitted but potential room for improvement would be, maintaining the grass and garden area more, better lighting in the living room and replacing the living room carpet which was worn in places. That said it is somewhere we would return to.
The weather was wonderful which helped to make this a really enjoyable experience.

We recently had a big family get together here, and what a fantastic lodge this is. Clean, spacious and excellent facilities. Even with so many of us, we had ample space. Just a few minutes from the centre of Aviemore made this the perfect base for us to travel out doing Loch walks, quad biking, Watersports and horse treks. It was great to come back and ease our tired bones in the hot tub and have a BBQ. Our little girl was also thrilled to see the trampoline in the front garden!
The only thing I’d say is that the garden isn’t enclosed so if you’re bringing dogs you either need to stay outside with them or fashion a long leash which can be attached to something to let them wander. This was easily done & no problem for us.
All in all, an awesome holiday & we plan to return as soon as we can.

Black Grouse Lodge ideal for large family group. Lovely garden. Well-equipped kitchen. Superb bathrooms.
Only issue the pet hairs in the carpets. You could easily remedy this by asking folk to keep pets to wooden floor areas downstairs and away from sitting room. We're not pet owners or lovers! There was a lot of sneezing!

The Black Grouse was perfect for our large family gathering to celebrate a special birthday, the lodge is very spacious with ample kitchen supplies, outdoor and indoor seating/dining. The only disappointing aspect was that it advertises dog friendly however it is not an enclosed garden and the pond is very tempting for dogs on a hot day! However walks from the door are plentiful and green through woodlands within walking distance to the village. We would certainly recommend a stay here and hope to return next year.

This was our first time booking with Great North Lodges and unfortunately we have been left feeling disappointed in Black Grouse Lodge. It's a beautiful property in an excellent location with stunning views across to the Cairngorms and a private back garden. However, we did not feel the housekeeping was to the standard it should be. We found blueberries on the floor in the utility room on arrival, food left in the freezer, countless dirty dishes/glasses in the cupboards, leaking radiator in the kitchen.
The living room curtains and pole fell on top of us when we tried to close the curtains at night as it was not secured and the carpet in the living room was threadbare.
Outside there was a couple of sleepers broken/ missing on the bridge which left a gaping hole through to the river below. Other than a plant pot, there was nothing at all to stop people, children or dogs from potentially stepping on this which we considered to be incredibly dangerous.
We found the property to be 'a bit tired' and in need of some work and attention to bring it back up to the standard advertised on GNL website.

This is a stunning and secluded home with plenty space for the entire family located in the heart of Aviemore.
It has amazing views towards the Cairngorms, which keep everyone in awe as the weather changes.
The housekeeping staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We called for extra bedding and someone was at the door half an hour later with additional bedding and offered to law the bed up for us. We also had an issue with the tumble drier and again we had someone out that day to look at it.
The house has many extras for keeping everyone happy with hot tub and a trampoline and Xbox for the kids.
This is an amazing property located on the Aviemore circular which is fab for walking and cycling.
A beautiful home to base a stay from with all local amenities within walking distance and other attractions such as Landmark and Wildlife park only 10-15 minutes drive.
Thoroughly recommend BGL to all.

Fantastic Lodge which was just perfect for all our family . Safe for the grandchildren, dog and my Mother in her 80’s. Has everything you could want with spectacular views of the Cairngorms as an additional bonus. Bedrooms spacious and comfortable. It truly is a special lodge . We have used Great North Lodges before and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them . Black Grouse Lodge is an absolute gem - hope to be back again in the future.

We had a fantastic week at Black Grouse. We are a party of 6 adults and 2 kids, the house has plenty of space for everyone, with a large lounge as well as seating areas around the house and a large dining table which can easily seat 12. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms had great showers. The kitchen is well equipped with a range style cooker but one oven door didn't shut properly and the fridge freezer is quite small for the number of people that the house can hold, there is another small fridge but a big fridge freezer would be a great addition. The hot tub was a favourite for everyone, although the cover clips need renewed. We were there during Storm Kathleen and the cover blew off and the tub got a lot of debris in it. The maintenance came the next day and changed the water so top marks to them. The house is about a 15 minute walk to Aviemore and is situated beside the Aviemore Circular so you can walk that route if you want to avoid the road. Loads to do in the area we done quad bikes, tubing, wildlife park and visited Loch Morlich. We really enjoyed our stay and already booked for next year before we left.

Spent a lovely 3 nights at BGL in December 2023 with 5 friends. Great house with lovely view from rear of property of Cairngorms. House has everything you need. Had an issue with TV in lounge and a bedroom radiator but maintenance attended to it within 1 hour of calling them. Hot tub was fabulous and great to relax and chat with friends. Recommend take extra logs for fire if using every night. Enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for this year

The lodge exceeded expectations. We were celebrating numerous events that we as a family had experienced this year. There was eight of us and a dog. Lots of space for us all without getting in each others way. Rooms spacious, very well equipped Lodge, met all our needs and more. Grandson especially happy with fussball and x box! We all enjoyed the hot tub, first time for me. Overall an amazing stay. Thanks for wine and shortbread

Just returned from another great week at Black Grouse Lodge (2nd time there). Fabulous house in excellent surroundings. Surprised though that a report of 2022 mentioning a faulty top oven door had still not been fixed in July 2023! Have used Great North Lodges for about 7 years now staying at several of their lodges. Without exception, all we have stayed in are of excellent quality. I have found G.N.L. to be a very professional company and easy to deal with BUT....I got a shock this year! Two days before we were due to leave I checked my current account and was concerned to note that the balance was £500 less than it should have been - all down to G.N.L ! I phoned them and was told that they had changed their security deposit arrangements whereby they now put a £500 pre authorisation on your debit card which is released after your holiday. They had failed to inform me of this change. So now, I had £500 less than anticipated to spend. The G.N.L. lady explained that they had not actually taken the money out of my account, it was only pending. However, the effect was that the money was actually frozen - as it was pending I had no access to it either! So be warned, unless G.N.L. change their security deposit arrangements, two days before you go on holiday you will have £500 up in the ether somewhere that you will not have access to until several days after your holiday!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Grouse Lodge. Have booked again for nest year already. Plenty of space for all our family, which is now much larger than when we first booked through GNL in 2012! Everything functioned, apart from one of the (many) ovens, so it was not a problem. Two fridges very helpful. BBQ a hit. The X Box and Football table great touches. Hot tub a great treat - however, we were so busy doing Highland Wildlife Park, Landmark, etc, etc, that we didn't get as much use out of it as we would have liked. Small suggestion - perhaps a new Vacuum cleaner for next year?
Thoroughly recommend for large family groups with teenagers - ours welcomed the opportunities to hang out in different parts of the house.

Great lodge but the floorboards upstairs are super creeky to a point that everyone wakes up if you’re using the bathroom in the middle of the night. Robes and slippers are a lovely touch

I booked this as a surprise for my husbands 50th birthday. To say he was wowed is not an understatement. The fact that we had the room for friends stay with us for the weekend made it all the more special. Plenty of space for us, our friends and the dogs. The only down side I would say is that the power kept shorting out. So several mornings when we got up there was no power- which meant no heat. The first day the help number advised me to look for the main electricity board which did show a tripped fuse. When it happened the next day and the following day we know which fuse to reset. When the property service team member arrived he could not isolate a fault. But we managed to do this by process of elimination. The new dishwasher was what appeared to be tripping the fuse, about 20 minutes into its cycle and about 10 minutes from the end of they cycle. We just ate out because of this. The only other issue was that they were waiting a part to repair one of the oven doors so when everyone’s was there at the weekend we struggled with cooking space as we could only use one large oven. However, this did not dampen our enjoyment. The house is fabulous, well appointed and stunning views. We were glad to have the last 5 days on our own to enjoy the peace, quiet and views to die for.

We had a girls weekend down in Aviemore and the Black Grouse Lodge was the perfect spot for us to stay. A short walk to the closest shop and a slightly longer walk to the main street, it is located well.

The house itself is well equiped, comfy and plent of space for everyone, the hot tub was lovely and the gardens are nice and well kept.

Would love to come back again.

We loved our long weekend in this beautiful home, which is in a quiet setting with lovely views. Great home for our long awaited family get together. I can recommend booking through The Great North Lodges team.

Loved this house, not only did this house offer sleeping accommodation for 10 it also offered a dining table that sat 10, ample space in the house and the grounds. And the views from the master bedroom / lounge are cracking.
