Set on an ancient and extensive wine estate in the hills along the Era valley, east of Pisa and North West of Siena, Leccio is a wonderfully restored Tuscan farmhouse, now a luxury villa for 14.

Finished to a very high standard, this house sleeps fourteen people in the main house plus the annexe. The bedrooms are spacious and filled with light, the kitchen well-equipped and the pool can be heated if required. To stay here is a chance to experience the many delights Tuscany has to offer while surrounded by modern comforts and mod cons. Extra services such as catering, cookery courses, wine tours and guided bicycle tours are all easily arranged, and the surrounding area has good Golf courses, horse riding stables and Spas.

A Euro35k rental ruined by the lack of a Euro400 dishwasher.

So it transpired that we stayed at Leccio some 18 years ago as guests of some friends who had booked it. We only realised when we got there! The house structurally is amazing, but hasn't been invested in since we were last there 18 years ago.

The pool area is unexceptional. It was also unfilled when we arrived (maybe 6-9inches too low) which they solved by putting in a cold water hose into the pool, which made the pool too cold to use for the first 3-4 days - not great. The trees could be trimmed to give a great view, but no, not happening.
There are stupid shortfalls, like not enough spoons but thousands of knives.
The whole place feels like a corporate asset not like staying at someone's home. Unloved.

But the worst, the worst, was the dishwasher. This pretty much ruined the holiday. Ridiculous I know, but this is a very expensive rental, Euro35k for two weeks, for a house that can hold 14 people. Yet there was only one dishwasher (there were two fridges and a full sized freezer). The dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid in it, the wheels were missing so the basket was impossible to move. Most things had to be washed by hand again after being in the dishwasher (even after we went out and bought salt and rinse-aid). And there was no plug for the sink to wash up by hand. It basically made every meal a misery. And it was definitely the same dishwasher from 2007! It should have been replaced and a second one installed years ago. Our holiday could have been 'saved' by a Euro 400 new dishwasher, which is only 1% of the rental cost. Very sad that the owner isn't investing in the property, and that Invitation to Tuscany is also not checking properties properly. So no good review and no repeat bookings to Leccio or ItT for us. Such a waste.
