Il Pozzo is an two-bedroom apartment for four in the Etruscan village of Murlo, in the heart of the Siena landscape. Like an upturned rounded beehive, the peaceful, historic hamlet of Castello di Murlo is right in the middle of Etruscan territory. and has two squares, one with an important Etruscan museum in the ex -Episcopal palace, the other, smaller, with a well in the middle. The views are stunning, with cultivated hills of the Crete reaching as far as Asciano and Siena on one side, and the Maremma countryside on the other.

Il Pozzo was the perfect location for our family’s Tuscan holiday. Off the beaten path and away from the crowds, perfect for hikes and outdoors activities and a short drive to Siena, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza and many other beautiful towns and villages.

We were welcomed by Sarah and Camillo who orientated us in the area and gave some great ideas for walks and places to visit.

The house itself was ideal for our 10 day stay with 2 teenage sons. The kitchen had everything we needed for preparing food and coffee in the morning and there was a bottle of local wine and olive oil waiting on our arrival. The lounge was spacious and filled with books and brochures on the area. The patio had stunning views of the surrounding countryside and was perfect for sitting out and reading or having a meal. There are two excellent restaurants in walking distance, one in Murlo and one in Vescovado

Camillo showed us around the Etruscan archaeology museum one morning and Sarah arranged for a tour of the Poggio Civitate excavation site with the professor running it as we were lucky enough to be there during the couple of months a year that the dig is active. Sarah and Camillo invited us around one evening for apertivo and we had a lovely evening discussing the town history and the surrounding areas. We would love to visit again
