Briar Cottage, dating from the 18th century, recently renovated to reveal some of its once original features, is part of a small, interesting, terrace which sits on the fringe of a cobbled area looking out towards the torn ramparts of Middleham Castle. Peaceful space to the rear of the cottage, a real sun trap. Enjoy the race horses going by for their daily exercise and the many nooks and crannies in the village. Wonderful walks from the doorstep, walk to Hullo Bridge and down to Cover Bridge or into Coverdale. Go along the Gallops to Penhill. Easy travelling to Leyburn, Bedale, Hawes and all the little villages in between.

Lovely cosy cottage, very well appointed with quality furnishings throughout. Great location for country walks from the door and with local shop, pubs, tearoom and restaurant all a short walk away.

This was our second visit to Briar Cottage which is a well appointed impeccably clean property that provides everything you need. The interior is beautiful with lots of references to the village and its history. The view is incredible and we love the fact that on arrival you don’t need to get back in the car until it’s time to come home ! Perfect in every way!

We had a great week in this clean, comfortable, cosy cottage. Middleham is a wonderful place to stay and this cottage is in a fantastic position. It’s well equipped and well maintained. We would definitely come back.

Briar Cottage is a lovely place to stay. Directly across the street from Middleham Castle it has everything you need to self cater and is just a short stroll to a few pubs, our favorite being the Richard III.
Centrally located to many points of interest. Highly recommend The Forbidden Corner.
We enjoyed our morning coffee to the sound of the race horses prancing the streets in front of the cottage each morning.
We would book Brian Cottage on any future visits to Middleham and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

Briar Cottage is a lovely relaxing place to stay. The cottage is clearly much loved and has been well looked after. Great facilities, very spacious for the two of us , ideally located on a street leading up from the centre of Middleham. Parking was straightforward immediately outside the cottage. there were several great walks directly from the cottage , down towards Coverdale and East Witton or up towards Penhill Beacon. Middleham is a great centre with its historic castle and it is a thriving centre for racehorse training. The village has a general store, tea room , two pubs and a hotel/ restaurant all within a short walk of the cottage.

Lovely cottage for a break in the Yorkshire Dales. Middleham is an interesting village and the cottage is well equipped and laid out for a lovely short break. We loved the kitchen with everything we need to genuinely self cater.
Loads of walks straight from the door and easy access to the beautiful Dales all around. A bit of a gem!

The cottage is delightful, in an outstanding location just below Middleham Castle. Middleham is an excellent place to stay, with its friendly local pubs, shop and chippy, and stunning views all around. It is also handy to be close to Leyburn, where there are more shops, cafes and pubs. The cottage itself is a gem of a place. Really spacious, thoughtfully decorated and extremely comfortable. The little patio out the back is very private and quiet. And the parking outside the front door on the cobbled area is also very good. All in all, a brilliant cottage in a fab place. A tremendous base for walking and sightseeing across Wensleydale.

Beautiful stay at this lovely cottage. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, in a great location. It had everything we needed including nice outdoor furniture to enjoy the patio garden in the sunshine. Comfortable beds, nice linen and towels and everything you could want in the kitchen, guide books and maps provided too. The cottage was spotless. There is plenty to do in the area, especially if you like walking as we do. Booking administration and information was good. The cottage sleeps 5 and the living areas may feel a bit cramped if you had 5 people, there are 2 living areas but both fairly small in keeping with the style of the cottage. We loved hearing and watching the race horses exercising up the road outside - but they will wake you up early! Aside from that the village is very peaceful. We would definitely return.

Lovely little cottage in the centre of a beautiful village. It was very well appointed, beautifully clean and very comfortable. It might be a bit of a squeeze for 5 people but as there was only 2 of us it was perfect. The rear patio was great for catching the sun in late afternoon.

We return to this cottage on an annual basis, as it’s in a lovely location opposite Middleham Castle, it’s also spacious, clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. Based just off the road, there is adequate parking outside the cottage and it’s very quiet mainly with horses walking by.

We have stayed here many times and at different times of the year. Autumn months are our favourite when we can make use of the lovely open fire. Especially good this time to be able to watch a good selection of films in the evening on the upgraded TV.
Spring/summer it's lovely to either sit outside at the back of the cottage in the lovely quiet courtyard or at the front watching the racehorses trotting by with the castle as a backdrop.

I would thoroughly recommend Briar cottage and Middleham for a break/ holiday great location good value for money easy to book 1min walk from shop and pubs. Directly opposite Middleham Castle. I have now stayed 3 times at this cottage and can't recommend it highly enough

A beautiful period cottage in a stunning location for walks. The view of the castle and the race horses is wonderful. The interior of the cottage is of a very high specification and truly mirrors the the history of the village where Richard 3rd was born and it’s horse racing history! An amazing experience that we are eager to repeat.

A wonderful cottage in a delightful location. Excellent off road parking outside the front door, great layout snd decor inside and beautiful patio area with table/chaurs/umbrella outside at the back. Excellent cottage in an excellent location. We all enjoyed watching the horses going out to the gallops in the morning. The garden area at the back of the cottage was a bonus at this time of year as it is a beautiful suntrap in the afternoons.
A good choice of location to share the delights of the Dales with our family.

Middleham is situated close to Leybrun and Wensleydale and for us made a good base for exploring most of the Dales. There are more central locations but the village with its shop, chippy, and two pubs not to mention a castle that was once home to Richard the third has everything you need. The sound of the local racing stables taking their horses up to be trained on Middleham Low Moor in the mornings adds a lovely feel to the village. The cottage was ideal for myself my wife and our Springer Spaniel. It was clean well maintained and although not the biggest was fine for the three of us. I would recommend a stay in this cottage and the lovely village it is situated in.

Great location and easy access main roads, loved watching the horses. good size bedrooms and plenty space in the living areas. Courtyard garden nice particularly with the sun out.

This was a lovely cottage in a very good location. I’ve missed the clip-clop of horses’ hooves since we left. We’ve only visited The Dales briefly before and I was very impressed with the scenery and architectural and historic heritage. Wonderful for walks and with some lovely pubs.

Briar Cottage was perfectly located and was very comfortable, spacious and had everything our family needed for our week away in the Yorkshire Dales including an idyllic little back garden to enjoy the evening sunshine in. The village was stunning, and including a good range of pubs with great food, a well-stocked shop, and plenty of lovely walks on the doorstep including a lovely walk to the river perfect for the kids to go paddling in.

We will definitely book again!
