Steeped in history & oozing with character - The Old Church… Sing for your supper around the organ, and enjoy aperitifs beside the altar- this 17th Century gem is quite the find! Dog friendly

Almost great ...

We enjoyed our week at this property and found the local area to be really interesting. There are definitely some great things about the house such as the lovely bath and shower rooms, comfy beds, pool table and other games, hot tub, quirkiness of the building, quality appliances, etc. However, there were a lot of negatives and also potential issues that others could experience.
I think the easiest way to write this is in bullet points so here goes:
1. Stunning property but with some issues with details when considering the price. For example, several of the dining chairs were falling apart and one of the door knobs kept falling off.
2. Beautiful and quiet until bedtime, when you suddenly notice the traffic noise.
3. Cleanliness could be better. The oven hadn't been cleaned when we arrived. Kettle was full of limescale with bits coming out into hot drinks.
4. No fans in the bedrooms. Considering the bedrooms are up in the old loft, they were already getting too hot in May. If staying in the summer this could be a massive issue.
5. The outside space around the fire pit and hot tub are not nicely kept. There are lovely flower beds that have more weeds in them than cultivated plants. A lot of the shrubs aren't well managed. The fire pit hadn't been cleaned and cleared of what was left by previous guests. The seating area here was also very dirty with seat pads left out and soiled and the area around hadn't been swept.
If I'm being honest, as much as we liked this place I don't think we would stay here again...

Absolutely stunning accommodation
Beautiful setting, shame about the noisy main road. We had road works right outside so that made it even noisier when the lights were red!
Downstairs bathroom could do with an anti slip mat.
Main bedroom is a lovely size and the bed was truly the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in.
Took us a while to get used to the sloping ceilings,so a few bumped heads later! Both the smaller bedrooms were quite cramped, maybe more suitable for children. Not ideal that one person has to climb over the other if needing the loo in the night. Also no bedside tables or even a shelf to put a drink on either side of the bed.
Hot tub was glorious but needed something for us to put our towels on
Most of the church was spotless but the shelf above the main bed was full of cobwebs and could easily be reached to dust. Sorry spider phobia here!
Even though I may sound like I’m complaining,it is a beautiful modern church conversion. With all mod cons and a huge hot tub.

The Old Church is beautifully presented, very clean and comfortable. The hot tub in the graveyard is great fun. From the photos we thought that both the organ and old record player would be in working order. They may well have been but there were no instructions for either and in our short stay we didn't manage to master either of them. Also, the location is not as quiet and rural as the listing suggests. It is on a very noisy road (not helped by roadworks and traffic lights maybe) and there is no gate from the graveyard "straight into the forest" that we could see. In addition, although there is a wall around the graveyard, it is very low in places and so dogs could get out very easily onto the busy road. None of these things spoiled our enjoyment of a lovely weekend but it may be worth managing expectations for people for whom this would be an issue.

The property itself is lovely; luxurious bedding and towels, everything finished to a very high standard and everything has been thought of but, there’s no getting away from the road noise. I did not realise it was located on such a busy road. The whole building shakes with lorry’s going past. We paid to use the hot tub but couldn’t enjoy it with the constant noise. I am pleased we went in the winter and didn’t want to sit in the garden.

A really unusual place to stay. Great atmosphere. We wanted to do something 'different' for Christmas with the (adult) family - and The Old Church certainly delivered on that front!
A few minor niggles:
A bit chilly at times. The timed heating not quite on long enough at this time of year. We were able to boost the heating after contacting the property manager.
Lovely kitchen but strangely no cupboards for storing non-perishable food (which was challenging for a party of six adults for best part of a week).
Paid extra for the hot tub, which was good fun but no extra towels included.

We all thought The Old Church was one of the most magical places we had ever stayed in. It is beautifully converted to a luxury standard while maintaining many beautiful original features which we found fascinating. We loved the atmosphere which was made more beautiful because of the thoughtfully provided Christmas tree and lights. We would have no hesitation in recommending this unique place to stay and look forward to returning in the near future.

The old church is stunning and perfectly situated next to an amazing pub, The old beams’ with great service and great food.
On the info it says you can walk out of the back gate onto the forest? No chance! It’s miles away and the only walks we could find were along roads which isn’t ideal with a dog?! 2 bedrooms are tiny and the biggest bedroom is lovely but doesn’t have a bathroom which is a shame as there is room for one? ‍♀️ we would stay again though just for the lovely pub
