The Lady Maxwell Room is integrated into the rich history of Buittle Castle. Named after Lady Maxwell, the room is appointed in the Gothic Revival and Arts and Crafts styles. Lady Maxwell (pictured below in William-Adolphe Bouguereau's 1890 portrait) was a descendant of the medieval resident of Buittle Castle, Lady Devorguilla of Galloway, and was a great supporter of the Arts and Crafts movement and aided in the founding of the National Trust for Scotland.
