Urlay Nook is the only 5 star Gold Award holiday cottage in Askrigg, and one of only a handful in The Dales sleeping 4 in space and comfort with two bathrooms. It is prettily yet conveniently situated on the edge of the village, next to Askrigg Beck. The views from the south facing rear garden are onto open fields, yet is still only a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of the village with its shops, pubs, restaurants and church.

This really is a wonderful cottage, which is why we keep returning, we feel its home from home. Urlay Nook has a special place in our hearts, not just because its beautiful inside and out but is also fantastically well equipped with everything you need and more.
The owner takes special care to leave lovely welcome goodies and Ice Cubes in the freezer all ready for your first drink in the stunning garden with a beautiful view and if your lucky, the sheep in the field behind will pop down to say hello while your out there. The only bad thing i can say about Urlay Nook is that we had to leave and return to reality!

This lovely cottage in the village of Askrigg is a wonderful place to stay. It is clean, comfortable and in an ideal location for sight seeing and for walking the many field paths and tracks from the doorstep. The scenery in the area is very varied with meadows, dry stone walls, rivers, waterfalls and moors. Wensleydale is a calm relaxing area for walking as well as visiting the Hawes Countryside Museum, Gayle Mill, Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle.

This is our 4th visit to Urlay Nook which says it all really. It's a perfect cottage equipped with everything you need (including enough dishwasher tablets for the week!). The welcome basket of food and drink is nicely selected with quality items. The village has some good eating places too. If you like walking and being away from it all, this is the perfect place to stay. Highly recommended.

We only had a couple of nights but we know the area and had planned our eating out and walks, the area is superb for those that love the outdoors and there are enough places to visit for non-walkers. The cottage is one of the best we have stopped in, the cleanliness and the attention to detail in decor and presentation is excellent. We will most definitely be back but for longer.

Not our first visit to Urlay Nook and it never disappoints. Ken and Sue are great hosts and make you very welcome. The cottage is always spotless and the welcome pack is very much appreciated after a long journey.
Perfectly situated for exploring the Dales and Askrigg has everything you need from shops to pubs.

Urlay Nook is a well maintained cottage with comfortable settees and beds. It is always cleaned to a very high standard. The garden is peaceful, with views over the fields. The village has pubs, a cafe and a small shop and there are lots of field paths to go walking and wonderful views. Not far away are many lovely villages and small towns to visit and the countryside and sights of the Yorkshire Dales to explore.

Urlay Nook cottage is a beautiful cottage. Well maintained and equipped. Very comfortable. I am short in stature and found getting into bed a bit of a climb! It is quite high off the ground.
The garden is wonderful and I really enjoyed just sitting out there in the peace and quiet watching the scenery.
Would recommend Urlay Nook as a good holiday retreat.

We stayed here with our 10 year old grandson for a week over the end of May bank holiday. We have stayed in a few cottages in Askrigg but this was the first time we have stayed in Urlay Nook and it was fabulous. It is spacious, very comfortable and has everything you need for a home from home stay. The welcome pack and milk in the fridge were a real bonus. Our grandson loved having a TV in his bedroom that he could watch when he woke up before we headed off out to the fells. There are plenty of walks to go on straight from the door without having to travel anywhere. We have already booked to stay again and would highly recommend it to others.

Another lovely week at this beautiful cottage which has everything you would need for your stay. A lovely welcome pack too. Situated in a fabulous village, within walking distance of three excellent eating places as well as a delightful cafe which serves coffee and cakes and light snacks. There is also a well stocked village shop and a gift shop with things made locally and run by local residents. A delightful village, a gorgeous cottage and a spring heatwave! What more could we ask for? Urlay Nook is a beautiful character cottage. The owners have obviously lavished love and care on it and it shows. Particularly enjoyed being able to sit out in the lovely sunny garden with a glass of wine/beer after our long walks. Askrigg is a great location, friendly locals, several excellent pubs and plenty of walking straight from the door. And couldn’t pass up on the delicious ice cream from the Bakewell cafe. The Little White Bus service was a great way to travel a bit further and access other walks without using the car.
We loved it! Would most definitely recommend.

I can’t praise this cottage enough, I fell in love as soon as I walked through the door, it’s simply perfect. We spent 4 lovely nights here and couldn't recommend it highly enough.
It is a beautiful cottage with 2 generous bedrooms and 2 immaculate bathrooms.
The kitchen is very well equipped and the lounge is very comfortable.
The little lambs gamboling in the field behind the cottage was a delight to watch and an added bonus. Will definitely return.

This cottage is simply a notch above the rest.
Its location is superb so if you enjoy walking there is absolutely no need to take your car out- there a plenty of walks from the doorstep!If you fancy eating out thats great, there are choices a plenty all within 200 metres.If you fancy eating in thats great too as the cottage has everything and more to cater for your needs. The sun even. came out for 3 days which was fabulous. Overall a 10/10 break - if I could give more I would!! Thanks Ken , you couldnt have done more

This was our third stay at Urlay Nook after a break of a few years and having stayed at over 40 different holiday cottages in the UK I can honestly say this cottage is the cleanest and best equipped out of all of them with absolutely everything you could wish for. The cottage is ideally situated with 3 pubs serving food within the village and numerous walks straight from the cottage or within a short drive . I would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Our fifth year in this lovely comfortable well equipped cottage in an ideal location in the village of Askrigg. Everything you would need in the cottage with a delightful kitchen and such a spacious cottage. Excellent meals at the Kings Arms and Middle House and a well stocked village shop. The Bakewell coffee shop is a delight with a fabulous choice of cakes and food. Plenty of walks from the cottage and no need to drive far. Beautifully kept garden to relax in after your day out.

We have just returned from a wonderful break in Askrigg.
Urlay Nook is a fantastic,immaculate cottage with plenty of space, tastefully decorated throughout with everything we could have wished for. The welcome pack was the best we have had - full of essentials and goodies!
The garden is pretty with two seating areas and we found it a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the views.
The location is spot on with plenty of walks from the cottage itself. We also enjoyed coffees and lunch in the local deli and meals in The Middle House; all were delicious.
We will definitely be returning.

We had a warm welcome from Ken and Sue when we arrived in Askrigg. Always good to have a catch up.

We enjoyed another stay at Urlay Nook which is always excellent. Everything is perfect in the cottage. The location is great especially looking out over the field and seeing the sheep grazing. Close to the restaurants, pubs and shops etc.

We have booked for next year and are really looking forward to being back at Urlay Nook.

Our second visit was every bit as memorable as the first. This a comfortable, well equipped property which provides an excellent base for walking and sight-seeing in upper Wensleydale and also Swaledale and Nidderdale. The owners have created a welcoming “home from home” and clearly take a lot of trouble to ensure their guests have an enjoyable holiday. Already planning to return, hopefully in 2024.

Our fourth year in this delightful cottage in the wonderful village of Askrigg. The cottage is so well equipped and comfortable and has everything you need. We spent the whole week on walks from the cottage, there are so many and the scenery is spectacular. Had some lovely meals at the Kings Arms and White Rose Hotel and it is a delight to have a village shop and coffee shop in the village. We will definitely be returning next year.

Urlay Nook is an exceptionally clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. It is full of character, tastefully furnished and well situated. We enjoyed sitting in the garden enjoying the view as we had our morning coffee or a glass of wine.
We have visited this area many times and it was lovely to have such a cosy cottage to return to after a day out enjoying Yorkshire.
Askrigg is a very popular place with visitors and parking can be difficult so the private parking space was a real bonus.
We must congratulate Ken and Sue on their excellent App which we found very clear and easy to use and full of useful information.
We had a great holiday and hope to be back again in the not too distant future.

A large beautiful cottage, tastefully & comfortably furnished, very handy for all amenities in the village and excellent walks from the door. Possibly a bit high tech for me, but that's my failing! Only slight quibble is I didn't find the mattress in the twin room very comfortable. Perhaps time for a new one or a mattress topper? Apart from that I would highly recommend Urlay Nook.

Visiting Urlay Nook is just like coming home- wonderful. Just one suggestion i would make and it would be to fit an extractor fan over
the oven which when cooking emits steam which goes up the wall. It would also save on decorations. We had great New Year

Stayed many times in Askrigg and Bainbridge but not for a few years. First time at Urlay Nook and will almost certainly return. Askrigg is my favourite village in the Dales with great pubs and now enhanced by a top class coffee shop/tea room. Urlay Nook is ideally situated and I would recommend to anybody. The only reason we would look elsewhere would be for a third bedroom. For character, comfort and location Orlay Nook cannot be beaten and the small patio garden overlooking the brook is a real gem. Superbly managed, every aspect was spot on.

This cottage was the best we've ever stayed in. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you would have at home so cooking a meal from scratch was easy to do. It's location was perfect with a beautiful outlook at the back of the cottage and easy access to many walks. The village of Askrigg has a village shop, lovely cafe and three pubs to eat at and supermarket deliveries are made to the cottage.
Although the cottage is on the main road through Askrigg it was very quiet when we stayed in September.

Lovely cottage in a great village with a couple of shops for the essentials and three pubs. Urlay Nook is a very spacious property with a great south facing garden. We had a really enjoyable walking holiday using Urlay Nook as our base. The cottage provided all the things we needed for a great holiday break.

My only reservation was the bed, which for me was overly firm but others may find that fine. Be aware if you are booking Urlay Nook it has typical cottage stairs which are quite steep and narrow so may not be great if you have mobility problems.

All in all a great cottage in a great location.

I love the decor and fittings such as the dresser in the kitchen and the window cushions and the moving horse in the window on the landing.

We enjoyed a relaxing spring break in this delightful village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Shops and pubs were within a short walk of our property and many places of natural beauty a short walk or drive away. This cottage is a home from home, unable to think of anything not provided, although it was early March we managed to sit in the lovely garden to enjoy watching the lambs in the field, we left the car all week, taking the little white bus when we wanted to explore along the dale and undertaking local walks from the doorstep. the information pack sent by the owners was one of the best we have come across for detail and advice (and we stay in a lot of self catering cottages) the village benefits from the pub and hotels the bakery does home made meals to reheat and the local shop is well stocked. Would most definitely return and hope to do so.

The cottage is very roomy, spotlessly clean and idealy loacated for bus, pubs, places to eat and best of all there are loads of

Urlay Nook is the first holiday cottage we have ever returned to, and we would not hesitate to keep coming back. It has such a homely feel, and yet has plenty of room (for the 3 of us). The alterations made due to Covid helped make us feel secure, as did the instructions on what to do with bedding, towels etc. on departure - clear and concise but also showing the lengths the owners were happy to go to in preparing the cottage for the next visitors.

The welcome pack was full of local goodies and the information pack extremely...informative! However, for us, the cherry on the cake was the enclosed booklet on local walks around Askrigg and the neighbouring villages. Planning where to walk the next day was quick and easy, driving was kept to a minimum and the descriptions of the walks were easy to follow and, for the most part, accurate.

The weather played its part too in what turned out to be another memorable week - we are already planning our next visit! Thank you.

From the moment we booked this cottage we received 5 star service.

Communication prior to arrival was excellent, with lots of useful information to help us plan our stay. Ulray Nook was the perfect cottage for an escape from it all summer break. The cottage was well equipped, very generous in size, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The welcome box with lots of Yorkshire treats was certainly welcomed after a long journey.

The location of the cottage was great - a small, friendly village with a lovely tea room, small shop and 3 pubs. Superb walks across the Dales from the doorstep, the booklet of suggested walks was well used!

Ulray Nook was definitely a lucky find - a gem in the Dales.

We loved everything about our stay in Urlay Nook. It’s a beautiful cottage, a real home from home. My wife and I stayed in Urlay Nook in April. The house was in all ways even better than expected.
The cleaning was immaculate and the house contains everything anyone could want.The level of comfort was outstanding.
The position of the house was perfect with beautiful views over the hills . The garden was a suntrap and very well provided with tables and chairs to enjoy the excellent weather we had.
We also received an excellent welcome pack. Far better than we have had anywhere else
The owner was very efficient and helpful when we sought advice
All in all the best place we have ever stayed and we will definitely return.

The cottage was very well appointed and had everything we needed plus when we arrived there was a welcome box which was great. We had a wonderful week here - and even though the weather was mixed, we managed to get some decent activities in on every day. This is a great base for exploring the area and there is some great walking to be had.

The property was very clean and very well appointed, even though we had been told that some items had been removed owing to Covid-19 precautions. There was nothing that we wanted that wasn't there. We felt that every effort had been made for us to feel as safe as possible - and there was even a full refund policy in case of cancellation owing to Covid-19. Our welcome pack had been personalised for us, which was a nice touch - and just confirmed the general approach to keeping us shielded from any unnecessary potential contact with the virus.

We particularly liked the leaflet detailing a number of local walks - quite a few of which we managed. The route up to the falls in Askrigg (go past the church) is very pleasant and not too far. We also saw Aysgarth falls the day after a fair bit of rain and they were most impressive! From there is a nice circular route to Castle Bolton which we took. We also enjoyed a couple of different walks around Semer Water. The Roman Road from Bainbridge is well defined and easy enough to follow too.

The meal we had in the King's Arms was perfectly good without being exceptional. Some of the staff were struggling to adjust to the restrictions in place. I expect they'll get that sorted in time.

We loved sitting in the garden, listening to the stream gurgling past us as we enjoyed our pre-dinner snacks and drinks on most days of the week. A nice little sun trap looking out over the fields. Wonderful!

Just wanted to say a personal thanks to Ken and Sue for our week in Urlay Nook Askrigg. We really appreciate the hard work you have both put in to make it "Covid Safe" and the personal support throughout the booking period during lockdown. The luxury of the property was second to none and the local goodies were a real treat.
