Extraordinary conversion of a truly rustic and rural mill creating a luxurious retreat deeply immersed in the rich wildlife of a large private country estate.

A delightful and quirky property, spotlessly clean in a truly idyllic location. Many original touches as well as old features, if like me your knees are a little dodgy the feature inside staircase could be tricky, but otherwise everything was very comfortable, including the luxury shower.
Splendid walks around the immediate area, and we enjoyed watching the wildlife in the garden and adjacent pools from the upstairs vantage points.

This has to be one of the best properties we have ever stayed at. The Mill has been renovated to a very high standard and we loved everything about the interior and exterior. So quiet and peaceful with so much wildlife. Swans, a Heron, Deer and so many squirrels it was lovely just to sit and watch.
Everything you require is supplied. The big comfy bed is so lovely we could have stayed there all day. Sitting out at night the Owls are hooting away to each other from the woods.
Some great walks from the Mill with our dog too. We tended to keep her on lead due to the wildlife wandering by just in case!
If you are looking for peace quiet and tranquility to unwind then Belchamp Hall Mill is ideal.

Owner was very helpful . Thankyou for an enjoyable break.

The Mill exceeded our expectations, if you want peace and quiet in a beautiful location then this is the place.
A Ralph Lauren sofa and quality furniture made the stay even more enjoyable, including the huge comfortable bed.

The cottage is set in the most superb spot surrounded by fields and woodland nestled next to a picture perfect pond teaming with pondlife ducks and lillies - we were even graced with the arrival of a swan family that waddled in for a bathe one morning.

There’s one other cottage behind the house but its certainly not overlooked and feels very secluded.

The cottage itself is a really fun mill conversion with the bedroom downstairs meaning you wake up surrounded by nature. There’s a walk in double shower and bathroom downstairs also.

The owners beautiful art is on all the walls which is a gorgeous addition amongst the shabby chic decor.

Up the old oak central staircase you’ll find very comfy living area and well appointed kitchen - again with mix and match farm cottage appeal that instantly makes you feel relaxed and homely.

The soft furnishings, wool blankets and old leather sofa immediately invite you to curl up with a good book next to the roaring log burner. (Which also fills the room with that lovely log burning smell that encourages a perfect sofa doze)

Stable doors allow you to open up the room and live amongst the surrounding wildlife.

The cottage has everything you need including a nice welcome pack to get you started.

I would recommend you bring all the food you need as shops are not easy to access.

(there is a BBQ)

Also there are no pubs or restaurants within walking distance so book cabs in advance if you want to partake of the many fine oldie worldy pubs and local ales.

The owners Charlie and Alice are friendly and helpful and knowledgeable.

Our dog had such a good time he wants to move in permanently.

Take a good book, your water colours, a burger and bottle of wine and you be set for the weekend.

Had a cracking time staying at the old mill. We cycled out from Sudbury station along tiny lanes - no car needed! The mill was an atmospheric and beautiful place to stay. All the fittings etc were high quality and comfortable.

A few small comments-
- the "welcome hamper" is quite minimal - which is fine! Just useful to understand
- in particular there was only instant coffee - we assumed there would be fresh coffee so didn't order any in our food delivery...!!
- it would be useful to have some washing up sponges, cleaning spray, and loo cleaner

The location and seeing the peacocks, kingfisher and other and wildlife along with stunning snowdrops.
Mainly the Mill was clean apart from the blinds and lamps which hadn't been cleaned in a while. The sinks, crockery etc all very clean. Every facility available ie dishwasher, microwave etc and clean white sheets and towels.
The Mill was nice and warm and a lot of thought had gone into the decor and presentation of the property. A welcome pack was very much appreciated and again a thoughtful touch.
Overall, a lovely location and peaceful, just some of the cleanliness could be improved.

I booked this property as a surprise for my wife and we were not disappointed. It was a comfortable, quirky, high quality property, very well equipped and comfortable. The location was ideal for walking our dog Ripley and we especially enjoyed the walk to the Fox in Bulmer for a lovely lunch and beer from their own brewery. The clear sky's gave us the opportunity to see the ISS and Jupiter in the cold evenings and then back to the log burner to warm up. Nice touches like the dog bed, welcome pack and quality toiletries made our stay extra special. We will be back.

Excellent accommodation. Comfortable bed. Very well equipped. Log fire a great asset and wonderful oven. Nice touches for the dog. Great experience seeing the kingfisher on the adjacent pond. Lots of wildlife. Would be great to have a bird feeder on the building to encourage further.
Could maybe offer additional firewood for sale as I'm sure cheaper in bulk than buying from petrol station forecourts.

What a wonderful, peaceful stay! We loved it all. Easy to find from the clear directions given.

The Mill House really was Idyllic! We loved it's stylish interior with rustic, period features, implying the history of the mill. The peace and tranquility was amazing. We felt relaxed from the very start. The pond was beautiful with moorhen, swans and kingfishers. As we woke each morning, we watched, from our bed, the pond come to life. Really magical!

The surrounding area was lovely. Sheep grazed in the fields, pheasants trotted about, a roebuck visited us and owls and foxes could be heard morning and night!

There were pretty walks nearby, to see the church and Belchamp Manor. Close by car, were two heritage venues, Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall, well worth a visit.

The Mill was very clean and smelt lovely. We used the log burner and the chimnea, which made our stay extra special. Also, a welcome basket was kindly left for us to enjoy. The bedding was amazing, and we both had the best night sleep in a long time! So much thought had been put into everything to make our stay lovely.

We can't wait to come back!

The worse part about this short break was choosing between all of the accommodation available at Belchamp Hall, everything looked special. We narrowed it down to Belchamp Mill due to its more remote location which was a big bonus for us. The property was exactly as expected as the promotional photography gives a very accurate representation of what is on offer. What it could not capture was the beautiful countryside and range of wildlife, clear instructions were given on which area area of the estate you had access to.
We travelled with our Harlequin Great Dane and she was in Heaven, plenty of walks from our front doorstep and wildlife for her to watch (from a distance!). Belchamp Walter itself is beautiful and being so close to the Hall and Church made our break feel extra special. There were plenty of villages/towns/pubs in the vicinity and this was well detailed in the Mill's handbook. Total perfection would have been a country pub to walk to but we were aware of this at the time of booking and it would have taken away from the total peace and quiet we experienced.
Whilst the temptation would be to return and try one of the other properties, for us I do not think the Mill could be surpassed. However, we could see the other options and they also looked very attractive.
We are considering early retirement and Essex/Suffolk borders were not on our radar, they certainly are now, it is such a pretty area. I would definitely recommend this property and was reluctant to leave.

The mill is a perfect place to get away and relax as it is dog friendly some sort of fence between the house and the public footpath wouldn’t go amiss as our dog loves everybody and runs up to them to greet them. However he is a 40 kg Doberman, so therefore a fence would’ve been an asset but other than that, what a fantastic place highly recommended. Thank you Charlie and Alice

A perfect peaceful location, and lovely building .

I was expecting a boutique interior for the boutique price. The property is over priced for the way it is currently presented.

The rustic style of furniture was in keeping with the style, but many pieces were cheap and tatty, ie dressing table, DIY mirror in bathroom, (is also actually way to low to use) . It could have been furnished with quality or antique furniture, but I imagine that much is just bric a brack second hand. I got the folding chairs out of the shed as the outside furniture was wet and one of them was broken. Sofas are very nice though.

No one wants an open plan bathroom and toilet, this was just not pleasant,

The house is generally dirty, key pieces of furniture have been dusted, fridge sink etc were clean, but every surface should be cleaned frequently, because it hasnt been the house smells a little musty. The shower head was filthy I doubt it had ever been wiped, Wall sockets were dusty and gritty due to the exposed brick work, there was balls of fluff dust and hair under most furniture. shower wall and bathroom blinds were dirty, toilet brush holder was full of water. Tv cabinet and brackets were covered in fluff on the inside I wiped this myself and the cloth was black. Dirty tissues and cigarette butts in the chiminea.

There could be a few more things to make the stay more comfortable. Unless they are there and I could'nt find them, a tray to carry things down stairs , additional chopping boards, I dont want to cut my bread on a board that the previous guest might have cut their meat on . We couldnt open the upstairs door looking over the pond, The Alexa didn't seem to be there. A small table at the top of the stairs out side the kitchen door would be really nice. For the price I would have expected a coffee machine, which actually seems to be quite standard in alot of rentals.

I just felt that it was very much styled and finished to the minimum requirement and feels very much like a holiday home, which for £100 less per night might be more acceptable but not for the price currently charge. I actually felt quite ripped off, especially when we arrived at our next holiday cottage for the remainder of the week which was beautiful in very way and far cheaper.

If the owners either reduced the price or made this necessary changes to justify the boutique price I would recommend the property, but at the current price I cant recommend it.

Belchamp Hall Mill cottage is a fantastic property which provides spacious accommodation with great character. The two floor property offers a large amount of space which is rarely found in cottages for two people. The scenery around the cottage is stunning and walks are right outside your front door. The cottage is well equipped to an high standard and is extremely comfortable.

We stayed in very cold outside temperatures (-5C) but the cottage was very cosy with its underfloor heating downstairs in the bedroom and bathroom and upstairs the log burner and central heating in the longe and kitchen area. We will definitely be returning to this exceptional cottage.

Everything was perfect for our two week stay; the Mill house, was perfect from switching off and catered for all your needs (home from home), perfect luxury and so comfortable. The tranquil setting overlooking the large pond, watching the kingfisher and heron on a daily basis was a delight! So star glazing on an evening for pure bliss. The Mill house was perfect for exploring Essex and Suffolk and in Sudbury we enjoy eating our with our dog at the Turkish restaurant, which was delicious, the sourdough pizza restaurant and also tapas, which were all dog friendly. The added bonus was the weather and we look forward to returning to the Mill house again.

The Mill is set on its own down a dead end road, so no passing traffic. We had everything we needed, and appreciated the welcome hamper. The property is spacious and comfortable, and the log fire came in useful on chilly nights. Plenty to do in the local area - lovely walks and interesting villages. Just right for a cosy few days away.
