We loved our couple of nights in the Hayloft, and wished we could’ve stayed longer. The large space was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, especially the bed. Great facilities, good kitchen equipment, and a very welcome welcome basket. Beautiful surroundings, good walks on the doorstep, we also liked exploring Sudbury, and a quick drink at the Pheasant pub nearby. Lovely owners who were very helpful. We will be back.

I wanted somewhere quiet to stay for a few days, which was both for business and pleasure. The Hayloft was perfect, a wonderful blend of comfort and quirkiness! It was beautifully presented, and immaculately clean, a real credit to the owners.

A great escape, if ever there was one!

We were looking for somewhere to escape to for a long weekend. This was it.

We knew what we'd booked, we'd seen the pictures, but The Hayloft is, up close and personal, better than the photos.

From the first sight as you emerge from downstairs, there's a well-equipped kitchenette and dining area, then a sitting area with a TV (we didn't use it but it's a big screen model) and sofas and a chess and backgammon set and an Amazon Echo device, then doors to the bedroom, and at the back of the bedroom, a bathroom with a separate bath and shower, sink, loo, all that.

They'd even supplied enough bread, milk and cereal that the first breakfast wasn't any sort of problem.

We were, frankly, amazed. It's far bigger than it looked in the photos; up there with the best accommodation we've ever experienced. The bed was comfy and the place so quiet that sleeping wasn't a problem.

There are a couple of downsides. It's a few miles from civilisation and the roads around it are narrow and a little scary as a result. However, Sudbury's not far away and there are a collection of shops and supermarkets that make the self-catering process straightforward.

And your mobile phone is going to struggle to get signal. If you use (as we do) Android Auto or similar in your car for navigation, to need to get the destination sorted on your phone before you go to your vehicle, ensuring you're still able to use the provided (free) WiFi.

It was a delight and we loved it. And we'd go back.

I am never sure why people feel the need to go abroad when we have such gorgeous countryside and history here on our doorstep. My wife and I had a delightful stay in the Belchamp Hayloft, unique because there was so much space within the accommodation and all beautifully designed and laid out. The pictures on the website say it all. We had our own personal reasons for returning to this particular corner of the Suffolk/Essex borders, but would recommend anyone of our vintage (60s) to stay here in the summer. Bring your bikes! Visit the Stour Valley, cycle to Sudbury along the old railway line and enjoy the Suffolk jewels of Lavenham, Kersey, Long Melford and Clare. The pubs and teashops are charming and the food and friendliness will be a long cherished memory of a brilliant vacation.

Beautiful location. Lovely strolls from the front door. It was great to be able to have a cup of tea in the nicely tended garden when we arrived. The view from the Hayloft was always interesting-over the former walled garden which has a huge water Lilly pond-they were just starting to flower so that was lovely to look at. Handy for getting into Sudbury, Lavenham, Long Melford. Even had a trip to Sutton Hoo which was very worthwhile. Plenty of National Trust properties to see on those rainy days too.
We did find the constant screeching of the two resident peacocks rather grating, from 4.30am to dusk and the flock of Guinea fowl were just as bad! In fact that’s why I’m not recommending this property.
The cottage it’s self could do with a tray for carrying ones tea to said garden or to bed! And to prevent stains on wooden services.

An excellent place to stay!

I stayed at Hayloft for a week, as a location it is well suited for a quiet getaway. Long Melford is just a short drive away and has lots of pubs and restaurants to visit on an evening. My daughter stayed with me for a few nights and loved seeing the Peacocks each morning.

I would thoroughly recommend staying here if you are looking for a relaxing vacation.

We (couple in our sixties) stayed here for a week in May 2023. We have stayed in many self catering accommodation properties and this [along with the stables downstairs] rates as one of the very best. The Hayloft manages to be both cosy and spacious at the same time. The sofa is properly comfortable. The bed is properly big and comfortable. Kitchen well appointed. Quality of fittings high. Shower does tend to fling water all over the place and the Wifi is poor in the bedroom, but these things small fry compared to the pleasure of being there. Parking very easy. Hosts very hospitable without being overbearing.

Belchamp Hall Hayloft is a beautiful, spacious property in the peaceful Suffolk countryside, and we also enjoyed the opportunity to use the walking trails on the Estate and to visit the little church. The apartment is beautifully designed, it was lovely to have our own garden with tables and chairs (great for afternoon tea and drinks on the lawn!) and the shared tennis court behind the walled garden was a surprise treat.

This was our first visit to Suffolk, and we felt so lucky to have found such a beautiful location and property for our stay, which made it even more special.

Quiet, spacious and relaxing barn conversion, close to nature and the inquisitive Peacocks.
Watched some old episodes of Lovejoy on the smart tv, as some of the series set locally, with the hall and church nearby.

We enjoyed every single second of our stay and didnt want to come home. The bed is the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We are big fans of lovejoy so were thrilled to see where it was filmed and went to many areas in search of different filming locations. I must also thank Charlie of Belchamp Hall for letting us go and photograph the outside of the hall and gardens when i called to ask if it would be possible as we were such Lovejoy fans. He was such a lovely man and asked if we were warm and comfortable enough in the Hayloft, which we certainly were. We are now saving to go again! It is totally wonderful and listening to the peacocks is fab! I also found Idyillic Suffolk exactly that!! They were so easy to contact and when i had to change dates due to illness Charlie (not the same as Belchamp Hall Charlie) was very understanding and changed our dates without further cost, which was very much appreciated, thankyou. Also met the lady who would be cleaning our property on our way out on the last day and she was lovely, and very friendly.

The hayloft is set in a beautiful location with walking from the door on local footpaths, Very peaceful and quiet,..Plenty of off street parking right outside the door, We were in control of the heating which is always a bonus especially if it's too hot or too cold, The large bed is one of the comfiest we have stayed in, The property is a lot larger than it looks on the pictures and had some lovely features. All in all everything was perfect, If you book the Hayloft you won't be disappointed

Wonderful spot to relax, with so much space and lovely views.
Enjoyed the tennis court, we did lots of walks , near the Hayloft, and found the two swans , behind the church ( which is the circle walk).
We enjoyed the garden and walled garden as we had very good weather.
We will come back for sure.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Belchamp Hall Hayloft. It is all what we expected of living on the English countryside. And even more. The location is absolutely wonderful and a good basis to explore the county of Suffolk. The Hayloft is a very nice appartement that makes you feel home at once. The owners are very kind, helpful and well organised. Great to be in England, a lovely country and lovely people.

The accommodation is situated in a lovely area and in beautiful surroundings. The buildings are stunning and the outside garden is lovely. The property is well equipped with all you need for a short stay or week's holiday. With a little more attention to detail this property could also be as advertised - luxurious both indoors as well as outdoors. More thorough cleaning of the property is needed as there were cobwebs in the beams and some dusty skirting boards. The property is looking "tired" in places inside and could do with some of the woodwork replacing or re-staining especially around the bath which definitely needs new sealant. Also the promised Welcome Basket was not provided. This is the only property I have ever stayed in that hasn't left a pint of milk in the fridge. With a little more thought and a bit of a spruce up this property could be all it promises.

Definitely amongst the top ten of holiday accommodation we have stayed in ! Booking, directions and self check in are all excellent. As we entered the property, first impressions were breathtaking. As fans of Lovejoy, the connections were interesting. Plenty to see in the area but we didn`t go out much, just had a nice relaxing break. Great to be allowed to explore the grounds too.

We just want to say what a wonderful time we had. So wonderful we extended for 3 more nights into the Hayloft after initially staying in the Coach House next door for 4 nights. We didn't want to leave after 4 nights and were lucky enough to extend and make our overall stay a week.

Like the Coach House, we absolutely loved it here. Very well thought out regards what would be needed in the kitchens etc and thoughtful touches throughout the house. Lovely welcome gift, nice toiletries in the bathroom, everything you need.
The Hayloft is cosy. Very very cosy and like something we have not experienced before. It had wonderful views from all the roof windows and even though mid February was surprisingly warm. Not too warm, just perfect which is hard to achieve in any roof conversion.

My husband is a Lovejoy fan (showing our age) so this was a huge bonus with all the memorabilia on display in the Hayloft, discreetly on display and not too much but it has a real antique feel yet modern to this accommodation which for us was a huge highlight and definitely a home from home given we work in the antiques world.

It felt like a personal touch had been put throughout the Hayloft as in the Coach House and again the owners were so accommodating when we moved from one property to the other ensuring we had an easy transition and were not left "homeless" between swapping over.

We are country people who love to walk and love animals so the location of this gorgeous loft conversion for us was a delight. Fields and small villages in every direction so lots of walking.

The onsite Peacocks and Guinea fowl are a joy to experience.. They are so funny to watch and they love to interact with you too. I learnt a lot about them just watching them.. so cute

We played lots of tennis whilst here on the court behind the property, again so nice to be able to just pop out and play.

If you are looking for someone really peaceful, where you can gather your thoughts, have some lovely walks and enjoy the countryside but in a modern home with all the mod cons, this location is perfect.

We shall definitely be back. it was perfect!

This was a lovely place to stay! My only critic was some parts looked a little tired ie the radiator in the bathroom could do with a paint as a bit rusty, kettle a little scaled and not to leave a half used loo roll from last guests. Apart from that all ok

We had a fantastic stay at Hayloft Barn - the location is beautiful and there are loads of lovely walking routes/footpaths around - we managed to find lots of sloes on our walks so went back and picked a bunch for gin making.

The grounds are a 'wow' moment and the peacocks just pottering around was pretty special. It is so quiet and peaceful.

We had everything we needed in the Hayloft and easily got a waitrose delivery sorted for the food for the weekend.

We met and spoke to the owners who were really friendly and helpful but kindly left us to our own devices.

I will definitely come and stay again for a few days of relaxation.

This is an absolutely beautiful location and the property was amazing. So full of character and charm. Sympathetically restored but with every modern amenity. Pristinely clean and with every luxury you could expect. Your own private garden but also, the pleasure of looking out on and having access to, the original walled garden, bordered by fruit trees, a rectangular lake, tennis court and stunning peacocks... an absolutely joy. It's located in the heart of the Suffolk countryside with a quaint village church, the hall itself and lovely walks literally on the doorstep.
There are also a wealth of wonderful, historic market villages to explore within a short drive away.
The owners, Alice & Charles we found were the perfect hosts; friendly, accessible and keen to help if required but otherwise unobtrusive.

As usual I found that everything had been taken care of to make my stay as comfortable as possible.
I’ve always loved coming here due to privacy and peaceful surroundings.
