The Cotswold Lady is a lovely two bedroom dog friendly property situated in the quintessential Cotswold village of Guiting Power. Boasting stylish furnishings and an enviable position above The Cotswold Guy farm shop, this home away from home is an ideal bolthole for those looking for a retreat in the Cotswold countryside.

The Lady Cotswold is a beautiful property in the heart of the Cotswolds. The location is great, and directions to the apartment were great, as was the access and everything needed to get there. The place itself, whilst beautifully decorated was a little tired and lacking in places - to be very picky, some peeling wallpaper and random books/ornaments all around, even a paper napkin holder in the bathroom! The kitchen provides the very basic in terms of cleaning products, but overall well stocked, if not a random selection. The bedrooms were great, extremely comfy beds, and same goes for the living space too - a great table to dine at, and comfy sofas and fire. The biggest let down, unfortunately, were the instructions and contact from the host. The instructions provided were minimal and on ragged pieces of paper and when we needed to contact our host during our stay regarding the hot water, we got no response. There was also no welcome basket or provisions left for us - I appreciate this isn't at all a requirement, but most places at least provide milk for a cup of tea and perhaps an egg or two; considering the place is owned by the same people as The Cotswold Guy farm shop downstairs, we think you missed a trick here to provide something to welcome us. Overall, however, we did really love the place (and got the hot water working in the end) - I would recommend it, as it is a beautiful property and you can't fault the location -The Hollow Bottom is a 5 minute walk and does a great Sunday lunch too!
Additionally, we cannot fault StayCotswold, their communication and provision of things to do in the area was endless and really helpful; will defintiely use them as a company in the future! Thank you!

We are very disappointed to know that the property is looking a little bit tired and is in need of some decoration. The Cotswold Lady is in a beautiful location, with views over the chocolate box village green. It is fairly quiet with a couple of pubs, a cafe, deli and lots of fabulous walks. The main problems we had were that we felt it could have been a bit cleaner, in particular the floors didn't seem to have been mopped for a while. The two bedrooms are situated over the shop/deli downstairs so there is noise from about 7.30 am when the kitchen opens. We also found that there was plenty of hot water in the mornings but none at night even though we switched on the booster as suggested by the house manager. Finally, some basic equipment seemed to be missing such as a dustpan and brush and a broom. We broke a glass and eventually had to clear it up using kitchen roll as there was nothing else available and the house contact did not seem very interested in assisting us. Having said that, the staff in the deli were very helpful and friendly and maybe we were just unlucky. Overall, I would recommend it, mainly because of the location, but with reservations as mentioned above.

Thank you Caroline for your review of The Cotswold Lady. It is lovely to read that the property is in a beautiful village of Guiting Power overlooking the village green. We are sorry that it was not as clean as expected and there is noise early in the morning from The Cotswold Guy kitchen next door. We hope to welcome you back to the Cotswolds soon.

The property description is accurate in that it does have steep stairs and low ceilings. Add a little over 6 foot I had to watch my head walking around the place. However, the bed is quite comfortable the kitchen as well pointed and the living room is comfortable as well. The location is excellent, and parking isn’t a problem unless a TV show comes in to film., but that is the price of a truly picturesque location.

Review after stay at "The Cotswold Lady" in village Guiting Power in The Cotswolds (week 33 2023)
By Palle Greve, Tommerup St., Denmark

The Cotswold area
-------------------------
I have travelled most of England, Scotland, and Wales over the last 51 years. I find The Cotswolds one of the most beautiful and attractive areas in Britain. I love the long-stretched hills ("the wolds"), the woods, the green pastures with sheep and horses, the alone-standing trees in the fields with blue woodpigeons flying to-and-fro, and the unique walls in Cotswold Stone surrounding the fields. I like the many streams with the occasional ford that tests if your car is watertight. I like the narrow country roads, where you need to give way to one another and you sometimes have to reverse your car to let the car coming towards you pass, and the friendly raised hand in acknowledgement. The many small and beautiful villages with houses built in beautiful yellow Cotswold Stone from local quarries. If I missed an Adjective, please feel free to add it yourself – I'm sure it will apply!

The village, Guiting Power
-----------------------------------
This beautiful village is "my" village. It is a typical Cotswold village with lots of footpaths round the area. Guiting is where most of my English friends live. Having just finished Grammar School in Denmark I first came to the village as a 17-year old youth back in 1972, and I have been back countless times over the years. In those days Guiting was a little different. The village had Miles Garage in Tally Ho Lane, where you could have your car serviced and buy petrol. This was where I enjoyed my stays with Anne and Chris Miles. In those days you served the petrol to the customers. This was one of my jobs, so I got to know many of the people in the village, when they came for petrol. There was also a Post Office in the Village Square. This has now been turned into a cosy café. The Sweet Shop, also in the Village Square, where I went to buy sweets has gone. The village had no less than two pubs – and still does! The Farmers Arms and The Olde Inn (now The Hollow Bottom). The Olde Inn was my favourite pub in those days, and I even had the pleasure of help serving behind the bar one Saturday night back in July 1972.
The Village also had a Bakery. The Watsons ran the place. First floor of the Bakery building has now been turned into the apartment "The Cotswold Lady" that you can rent for your holidays. The ground floor holds the shop "The Cotswold Guy", where you can buy fresh vegetables, milk, bread, and other daily essentials.

The apartment, "The Cotswold Lady"
-------------------------------------------------
I have had the pleasure of staying in The Cotswold Lady for 2 weeks in the latter part of July 2022 and again for 1 week in August 2023.
The apartment is nice with a small hallway, 2 two-bed bedrooms, at bathroom, a kitchen, and a combined dining- and sitting room. There are big TVs in the sitting room and in the master bedroom. There is also a children's play room on the third floor. All the rooms are well equipped – especially the kitchen with fridge, cooker, dish washer, and washing machine. No obvious place to hang your washed clothes though! The rooms have good lighting – except for the dining room. There are many low doorways and beams (as duly stated in advertising). This means the apartment may not be so well suited for tall people.

In general – I like the apartment! BUT, I am sorry to say that now come a few complaints and suggestions for improvement. However most of them are easily fixed:

1. The bath has 2 showers, a fixed one high up – and a hand-held one. During my last stay the latter had a broken tube and therefore didn't work at all. This meant you had to wash your hair every time you took a shower. I chose not to complain about this while I was there, since I was only there for 7 days. But cleaning staff and management should check for things like this.

2. The TV in the master bedroom did not work (and "yes", I did switch it on at the wall socket, before attempting to switch it on with the remote). I did not complain about this, since I was not in Guiting to watch TV. I did not try the TV in the sitting room.

3. The curtain in the small window in the dining room could not be pulled up, so the window was covered all day.

4. The supply of hot water is somewhat limited. It may be sufficient for one person, but I don't think 4 people would have enough for four showers. Moreover there are times during a 24-hour day where there hardly seems to be ANY hot water.

5. Lighting in the dining room is terrible! The way it is now the dining room is not very usable at night.
The problem is that the lamp above the dining table is hung high up near the ceiling instead of down closer to the dining table, where the light is needed during dinner – and perhaps later if you want to sit and play cards, games, etc. The lamp itself is ugly and "eats" pretty much all the light it produces.
My recommendation would be to have a matt white shine-through glass lamp hung over the dining table to supply a full and cosy lighting for people sitting at the table. The shine-through capability would at the same time help provide the general lighting of the room.

6. Pricing. If you buy 7 sleeps from Monday to Monday or Friday to Friday you get one price per day. If you buy – say, 2 nights extra – you get "penalized" with significantly higher charges! From a customer's point of view – this is strange! Usually when you buy more of something, you get it cheaper per unit – not more expensive! In my case I wanted 9 sleeps, but had to restrict myself to 7 sleeps – and you lost the sale of 2 sleeps! You should consider changing this for the benefit of more flexibility for your customers – and more sold sleeps for you.

Having got these things off my chest, I hope you recognize that I love The Cotswolds and the village Guiting Power, and I'm sure the above items have been resolved should I choose to stay at The Cotswold Lady a third time.

My very best regards,
Palle Greve,
Tommerup St.,
Denmark

We wanted a property in the village so that we could walk to the music festival, and in that respect it was fine. it was quiet in the evenings, but we were disturbed the first morning by shouting and loud rap music from the kitchen below, where staff were baking for The Cotswold Guy. The owner asked me if we had been disturbed, and she asked the staff not to play music and to keep the noise down, which they did. She also gave us free coffee, which was much appreciated. It would be useful if The Cotswold Guy could be informed when the Cotswold Lady is let.
Living accommodation pleasant and kitchen reasonably well-equipped, although the only pan big enough for pasta wasn't suitable for the hob and so took 35 minutes to heat up. There were no egg cups, and not enough mugs, unless you put the dishwasher on when it isn't full. Double bedroom always hot because of the kitchen, with a pervasive smell of cooking. Another hook in the bathroom for bathrobes would have been nice, plus a table for washbags etc. I possibly sound more negative than I intend, but a number of small amendments would help.

Comfortable accommodation in beautiful, quiet village. Well equipped for a short (or longer) stay. Centrally located for travelling to other parts of the Cotswolds. Close to supermarkets etc in nearby villages and great coffee ship across the road.
Unfortunate, continual music with associated loud beat from the property downstairs became an annoyance. No respite at all until closing! Very disturbing!
Both window blinds in living area were broken by previous visitors and not repaired prior to our visit.

We enjoyed our stay overall and loved the village the Lady Cotswold is in but did have a couple issues to which we never received any reply to an inquiry. As one particular subject was important (inability to get hot water), the lack of any help to rectify the situation was discouraging.

This village is a real gem - we’ve been on countless Cotswolds holidays before but there’s something very special about this place. We felt fully immersed in Cotswold life with the local pub even having a Morris dancing competition! The ancient Wardens Way footpath passes right through this village and there are countless other lovely walks available right from the doorstep. Plus the weather was marvellous!

The Cotswold Lady was in the most peaceful village but with everything you need on your doorstep. The cottage was in fact a flat but it had everything you needed for a comfy stay. It was clean and well equipped with all the home comforts. Two fantastic pubs were within walking distance and the old post office and the Cotswold Guy served amazing cakes and food. It was ideal for our dogs too. Great walks straight from the front door. Parking was on the Main Street and free, in fact the car stayed where it was all weekend as we had everything we needed within the village. Will definitely stay again.

We had a lovely stay at Lady Cotswold. Great location as there are two pubs, a fab farm shop, and some beautiful walks in Guiting Power. The cottage was delightful, clean, and well-equipped. However, we really struggled to use the oven. Some better instructions would have been helpful. In the guide, it said we could use Sky by using our login details but we couldn't get it to work. The other issue was the hot water, there was no hot water in the evening which was really frustrating.

We stayed in The Cotswolds Lady with our two boys - 4yo and 2yo - on a recent weekend. The location was easy to find, and we enjoyed the village pub and farm store during our stay. Fresh coffee and cinnamon donuts steps from the front door? Yes, please! Our kids also enjoyed the playground just a short walk up the street and watching the locals walk their dogs past the cottage in the morning.

The cottage is quaint and comfortable. It took a little while for it to heat up when we arrived, but stayed comfortable once it did, even in the evenings. There was plenty of room downstairs for coats and boots, and the rooms were quite spacious. Lots of places to tuck luggage into if you were here for a longer stay.

We cooked breakfast and dinner at the cottage through our stay. There were plenty of pans, utensils, etc. I would say the basic pantry items were somewhat lacking - it looks to be a collection left by prior guests. Some olive oil, salt, pepper, tea, etc. would be welcome. We had a minor issue with hot water during our stay. The first night, one of us got about 5 mins of hot water in a shower before it ran cold. The second night, we set the two hour booster on, but still only got about five minutes of hot water. It wasn't such an emergency to ring for help, but some instructions on how to get a real shower for (hopefully) more than one person would be a good thing to add to the welcome packet. Might have been our error.

Overall, lovely stay and a picturesque village.

We recently stayed at the Cotswolds Lady for a 3 night stay. The accommodation is lovely and spacious, a large open plan kitchen / diner / lounge and the main double bedroom is very substantial. The rooms are all lovely furnished with attention to detail. The main double bed was extremely comfy too. There are two very large tv's, one in the lounge and one in the master bedroom. However we had read on a previous review that the tv in this bedroom was working and we also found it not be working, which was a bit disappointing that it hadn't been picked up on the last review for future guests. Also as mentioned in the last review there were a couple of areas that could have been cleaned a bit more thoroughly, the top of the fridge / freezer was dirty together with a lone box of rennies, and the underneath of the sofa cushions could do with a bit of hoover. We also couldn't find any kind of broom or dust pan, which is always handy especially with having a dog. The village of Guiting Power is very scenic and we visited both pubs at either end, The Hollow Bottom and The Farmers Arms, both very nice pubs. There are many lovely walks on your doorstep too, which makes it popular with walkers and cyclists alike. The village on the weekdays seemed fairly quite but during the weekend, especially on a Sunday, everyone seems to want to come to the village pubs and the post office cafe (although their cake is very good lol). Parking is on the village green and we always managed to find a space. The Cotsworlds Lady is situated above the Cotswolds Guy farm / deli shop, which sells many lovely treats, especially the sausage rolls definitely being one of them! You can hear a substantial amount of noise from the shop, talking, laughing and especially music, however we are not ones to lay in so it didn't affect us to badly, and it is only open 9am - 4pm, but if you are looking for peace and quiet you might be disturbed by this noise from about 7.45am. Would definitely recommend the Cotswolds Lady and is ideally situated close to many places of interest i.e. Bourton on the Water, Stow on the World and Broadway, all very lovely places to visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - 2 adults and 1 child - in the Cotswold Lady: plenty of space, good size bedrooms and living space, great shop beneath, village with two good pubs and the post office opposite (great for breakfast). We will definitely look to stay again.

A few minor issues: TV in bedroom not working, duvet in main bedroom was too small for the bed and it could do with a good spring clean (dirt down side of bed, in sofa, top of fridge etc - all the bits that don’t get captured in a general day to day clean).

I stayed at The Cotswold Lady for a week with my two children aged 10 & 13. The cottage was spotless and such a beautiful, restful environment to explore the Cotswolds from.

The kids especially appreciated the games room which was well stocked with all the classics & there was a fabulous play park nearby.

The village was close enough to the tourist hotspots, but off the main drag. It was nice to escape the busier towns to somewhere that was ‘gently bustling’ with a lovely cafe, pubs and of course the Cotswold Guy! It seemed to be a stopping point for hikers & cyclists.

Parking nearby to the property was never a problem. The cottage did have some quite steep stairs that might be off putting to people with mobility issues or very young children, otherwise it’s perfect and comes highly recommended.

We arranged our visit through StayCotswold, who were very helpful and managed to secure us a last minute booking.

A beautifully decorated, quirky apartment in a idyllic village setting, a great place to explore the Cotswolds from. We visited both the local pubs, great places to rest after a busy day with good food and a drink. Also, we sampled breakfast and coffee and cakes at the Old Post Office and pain au chocolate from the Cotswold Guy, which were all delicious. We found all the places we visited to be dog friendly too.
Our only criticism was, we had a few issues with the oven, not sure if that was us though?
We would definitely revisit the Cotswold Lady.

We stayed 5 nights and loved staying at The Cotswold Lady. Beautifully updated and decorated. Comfortable and high quality bedding. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I called StayCotswold to book the Cotswold Lady the day before we travelled and the team were very helpful in arranging the last minute stay for two adults, a child and a dog.

On arrival the Cotswold Lady did not disappoint. The cottage was very well presented, clean and immediately felt like home. The Cotswold Lady had everything we needed, including an attic playroom with some classic games, and is finished to a very high standard.
The location is perfect with a cafe, two pubs and plenty of walks within walking distance.
Would highly recommend and would definitely book again with both StayCotswold and the Cotswold Lady.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage - superb little shop below, quiet village and nice breakfasts at the shop across the road. Beds comfortable, kitchen fully equipped, excellent wifi - we simply relaxed for the week, although plenty to do around about.

Beautiful cottage above a shop selling amazing fresh produce. Accommodation was to a high standard & the fresh coffee when we arrived was a nice touch from the owners. Perfect location to visit all the main villages in the cotswolds.
