We stayed at the Snug for a week over Christmas. First thing to say is that the location is excellent. Just off the High St and within 100 yards or so of two great pubs and the local theatre. The garden, although small was fully enclosed and pet friendly as advertised with a side gate to avoid muddy boots and paws walking through the house and the hot tub great. The log burner was also a nice touch and there were enough logs provided. The app was useful.

The cleanliness was fine but there was some clear staining on the walls in the bathroom and bedrooms. Beds were comfy and bedrooms a reasonable size. Although if you are a party of 4 adults the Snug would probably feel very cramped. The stairs are very steep and cramped which could be an issue for the elderly or young children and parking is a ridiculous. It’s complete luck if you get a space anywhere near the cottage, especially when the market is on.

I do unfortunately have a few issues. Firstly, a 5pm check in seems pretty late to me given check out is 10 am. This especially relevant given the parking situation, as by 5pm all spaces on the road are taken. The main disappointment for us however was that it felt that no effort had been made to make us feel welcome or that StayCotswold valued us as customers. The Snug is not a cheap place to stay, for 6 nights over Christmas we paid £1640. For this I was at least expecting some basics to be provided. There was however no kitchen cloths, no sponges or cleaning spray. No cooking oil, no coffee for the machine and there were only two teabags in the pot. Pots and pans were minimal as usual with holiday rentals. Also with it being Christmas, maybe a bit of effort to decorate could have been made. Four bits of tinsel on the picture frames and the sort of cheap tree (seemly dumped in the corner of kitchen) that wouldn’t look out of place in a University dorm was as good as it got. Honestly it would have been better not to bother as instead it felt like a token effort, ‘that’ll do’ approach. If I’d have paid peanuts for the stay I wouldn’t be complaining, but for £1600 it left us feeling a little ripped off and under valued as customers.

Overall we had a pleasant stay. We love the area, the location is great and the Snug was nice enough. But given the above I’d certainly hesitate to book with StayCotswolds again. It’s the small things that make accommodation memorable and unfortunately my overriding memory of the Snug is a bit disappointing and a feeling of being ripped off.

Thank you, Chris, for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay at The Snug. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the property’s central location, enclosed garden, hot tub, and log burner, and that you found the digital app helpful during your stay. We’re also glad that you found the beds comfortable and the property generally clean. We’ are sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not fully meet your expectations. Your comments regarding cleaning items, kitchen supplies, and festive presentation have been shared with the property management team, as we recognise how much these details contribute to the overall guest experience. For clarity, the listing provides full information about check in times, parking arrangements, and the nature of the property, and we encourage guests to review these details when booking to ensure the property is the right fit for their needs. We understand that value for money and the overall guest experience are particularly important, especially during peak periods such as Christmas, and we regret that you felt disappointed in this regard. A very comfortable house, lovely and clean and everything we needed. The only problem we had was that the WiFi kept dropping out and we struggled to watch the tv. We didn’t see that as a huge issue though and would definitely recommend this property.

We had a lovely stay and everything was really clean and modern. The hot tub was a win for the kids and it was in a really good location.

Kevin looked after us after a mix up over beds, great customer service.

Try the Chequers for an excellent roast
