Tucked away in the northern corner of Cumbria close to the Scottish Border and Gretna Green, famous for eloping couples getting married over the anvil, you will find the hamlet of Netherby, 5 miles north east of Longtown. Gretna Green is now a chic restaurant and shopping destination, designer shops can also be found at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village a mile away in Gretna.

The area is perfect for guests looking for a break where they can relax and unwind yet easily reach all the tourist hot spots and attractions. The northern Lake District with Lake Ullswater, home to the Ullswater Steamers and Aira Force, is less than an hours drive, continue along the lake shore road and over Kirstone Pass to the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere. Hadrian’s Wall is another popular attraction with visitors to the area, spend the day exploring Birdoswalds Roman Fort and reenact a Roman battle or marvel at the Roman artifacts in the museum. Spend sunny days relaxing on the beaches of the Solway Coast, no trip to the seaside is complete without fish and chips and Allonby is famous for its ice cream sundaes, the perfect treat whilst watching the sun set on the seas horizon. The Scottish Borders is home to many interesting villages, look out for some of the many festivals that take place regularly throughout the year.

The historic city of Carlisle is 10 miles away with all your high street shops, restaurants, pubs, cinema and theatre. Romantic river walks can be enjoyed through Rickerby and Bitts Park in Carlisle or along the River Esk in Longtown. There is a choice of 4 golf courses all within a half hours drive.

Fern Barn Cottages nestle in the grounds of the owners listed mill house amongst perfectly manicured gardens and on the banks of the Carwinley Beck meandering through the grounds. Tucked away from the crowds Fern Barn Cottages is perfect for a romantic getaway at any time of year where couples can enjoy hand in hand walks along the quiet country roads or simply snuggle up in front of the TV after a relaxing afternoon in the hot tub whilst sipping champagne. The 5 individually styled cottages offer luxurious accommodation with their own private patio area and hot tub. Larger groups can rent the 5 cottages together (Beckside Cottage, The Heronry, The Snug, Reflection and The Chard) giving each couple their own unique space but close enough to enjoy each others company.

The Snug has it all for a romantic escape, this cosy Shepherd’s Hut is nestled in its own gardens and has a hot tub. The cosy open plan lounge/kitchen/bedroom has everything needed to enjoy a romantic away from it all break with electric heating and comprises. Lounge with TV and DVD player. Kitchen with Belfast sink, fridge, microwave, toaster and portable induction hob. Double bed. Wet room with shower, hand basin and WC. Outside patio with seating overlooking the beck, cold water shower and hot tub.

All oil, electric, bed linen and towels included. Parking for 1 car. Private patio area with hot tub and shared use of the communal grounds.

Lovely accommodation with everything needed for a short stay. Clean and cosy with some nice little touch’s ie bottle of fizz, basket of jacuzzi, throw, marshmallows etc.
Jacuzzi in private garden, nestled near a stream, saw an owl and squirrel on our visit.
My husband had a lovely 60th weekend. Thank you. We will visit again for sure.

The Snug was small but comfortable with everything you need for a short stay. The hot tub in the private tub was so lovely. The hosts were very helpful and friendly.

The only issue was not all the windows had shutters or blinds so we were woken by the light in the early morning. We improvised with some towels . Providing eye masks might help.
