Kirk House Longtown is a spacious Grade II listed property that provides everything you need for a getaway at any time of the year. It offers a wonderful setting for family and friends to vacation together in a roomy accommodation designed to make your stay truly memorable. With a variety of reception rooms available, guests can unwind with a good book, watch TV, listen to music, or play games with the kids without worrying about disrupting anyone’s enjoyment.

Situated away from the bustling tourist hotspots of the Lake District, Kirk House is still conveniently located for a wealth of activities within a short drive. The shores of Lake Ullswater and the Solway Coast are less than an hour away, while the Scottish Borders, along with the famous Gretna Green and its outlet village, are just 10 miles west. The border city of Carlisle lies 15 miles south.

During the summer months, you can make the most of the expansive lawned gardens by playing badminton, boules, or croquet. Once you’ve built up an appetite, fire up the gas BBQ for a delightful family feast—always a hit on a summer evening. This retreat is perfect year-round; the open fires and wood-burning stoves will keep you warm and cosy while you enjoy a movie from the DVD library or engage in one of the available board games.

For the sporty guests, there are tennis courts, fishing spots, and golf courses just a short drive away. If you're seeking a cultural experience, Hadrian's Wall and the historic city of Carlisle, which features a castle and cathedral along with various shops, bars, and restaurants, are both easily accessible.

Kirk House is located in a courtyard next to Kirkandrews Tower and has been thoughtfully converted from a barn and two cottages to provide luxurious accommodation for groups of friends or family gatherings. It is also ideal for birthday and anniversary celebrations, stag and hen parties, clubs, and much more.

With oil central heating throughout, guests are greeted in the spacious hall, which features a wood-burning stove, a table for either pool or table tennis, and the main staircase leading to the first floor. The study includes an open fire and seating for up to 8 people, along with a widescreen Freesat TV and a DVD player. The sitting room offers comfortable seating for 8 people around the open fire and includes a radio/iPod dock. The dining room accommodates 15 people and boasts views over the river. The well-equipped kitchen provides everything needed to whip up a culinary delight, featuring an electric range cooker, larder fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. The utility room includes a washing machine and tumble dryer, along with access to the back door. There is also a ground floor bedroom with a super king-size bed and an en-suite shower room. The cloakroom/bar area comes complete with cupboards, a mini fridge, a dishwasher, and a WC.

On the first floor, you will find 6 bedrooms: 3 king-size, 2 twin, and 1 single. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, one of which features a shower over the bath. Additionally, there are 2 family bathrooms, one with a shower over the bath and the other with a bath and shower cubicle.

All oil, electricity, bed linen, and towels are provided. A cot and highchair are available, along with ample private parking. The large gardens are equipped with garden furniture, sun loungers, and a BBQ.

Located in a prime area for exploring the beautiful county of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, Longtown is situated on the Scottish Border, just 10 miles from Carlisle and within less than an hour’s drive to the northern fells of the Lake District. The Solway Coast, stretching along both the Cumbrian and Scottish shorelines, offers beaches perfect for family outings. Enjoy the evenings by marveling at the stunning sunsets as the sun dips below the horizon.

This area is rich in history; you can explore historical houses and gardens, walk along the World Heritage Hadrian’s Wall like a Roman soldier, and visit museums featuring Roman artifacts, or tour Carlisle Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Scenic river walks along the River Esk lead you to Longtown, which offers shops, pubs, and cafes. The border city of Carlisle, a 15-minute drive away, boasts a wealth of shops, bars, restaurants, takeaways, a cinema, and various visitor attractions, as well as numerous parks and soft play centers. There is truly something for everyone, regardless of age, to enjoy in this beautiful corner of England.

Kirk House was an absolute delight to have as our group base over the last four days. The accommodation was first class and our group were very comfortable during our stay. The surrounding countryside and scenery was astounding and Kirk House stood perfectly within this wonderful view.
Very well equipped with everything a group of 7 would need, the only minor criticism we had was the pans and oven trays in the kitchen - these had seen better days unfortunately and really could do with being replaced, but the rest of the house really was superb.
Sadly, the weather didn’t allow us to use the garden as much as we’d hoped, but that’s the weather for you.
Very impressed, very pleased to have found Kirk House, and already making plans for another group visit next year. We can highly recommend booking Kirk House for a group or family break.

Thank you for a lovely review. We will let the owners know about the pans as they do strive to ensure everything is perfect for guests and I am confident these will be replaced. We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon.
