Nestled just off the A66, surrounded by majestic fells and swooping valleys is Hutton John, a small hamlet in the heart of the Ullswater fells. The area lends itself to peaceful breaks away, being just off the popular beaten tracks of the Lake District but close to many of the popular tourist hotspots such as Ullswater, Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. There are a range of activities on your doorstep, the Rheged Centre with cafes, galleries and shops is a 5 minute drive, Dalemain House and Gardens and the Alpaca Centre are 15 minutes drive and Lake Ullswater itself with lake cruise and watersports is 10 minutes away.

The outdoor enthusiast can enjoy an abundance of walks from the door with woodlands, Great Mell Fell leading to Aira Force and the Caldbeck Fells all within easy reach of your holiday retreat. The coast 2 coast cycle route passes the door and watersports on Lake Ullswater are within a 10 minute drive. After your day’s exploring, return to the peace and tranquility of Hutton John where you can relax, prepare a delicious home cooked meal in the comfort of your well equipped kitchen and reflect on the day’s adventures together. On the nights you prefer not to cook, Dacre and Penruddock each have a village inn serving home cooked meals and local ales, both within 3 miles. The cottage is on the owners 550 acre estate close to Lake Ullswater and has been lovingly maintained with the enthesis on environmentally eco friendly materials that lend themselves to the surroundings and provide a modern home from home from which to enjoy a peaceful break away.

Located on the fellside, sheltered by trees and with stunning views down the valley the cabin offers spacious accommodation for a getaway at any time of year. Positioned next to Brow Wood with woodland views, it is warm and cosy no matter what the Cumbrian weather outside. Guests have use of the quadrangle for al fresco dining, picnicking or enjoying a drink with other holidaymakers, from here take the 2 minute walk leading to the viewing platform, marvel at the most amazing views as they start to unfold on your descent. Once at the platform, relax on the bench while you immerse yourself in the view leaving the commotion of everyday living behind you. The cabin is the perfect base to enjoy an ‘away from it all’ break leaving you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

The L shaped cabin has solar powered electric under floor heating and comprises: Open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area with Smart TV. The kitchen is equipped with oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge and quartz worktops. Bedroom with super king size bed. Shower room with vanity unit and WC.

All electric, gas, bed linen, dressing gowns and towels provided. 1 well behaved dog welcome. Shared use of the parking area within 50 yards of the cabin. Private decking area with table and chairs and wood-fired hot tub, please bring your own logs.

A real hidden gem!

We’ve just got home from a 3 night stay in Bluebell and it was lovely. A real hidden gem with gorgeous views. It is a great location for exploring Ullswater and the surrounding villages by a short car trip. The lodge itself is very modern, clean and tidy. A lovely little welcome hamper too on arrival which was greatly appreciated.

If I had to make any suggestions it would be to provide more logs for the wood fire hot tub. The instructions say per use it needs around 1.5-2 bags of logs. 2 were provided but when you are staying here for 3 nights, it would be appreciated to have atleast enough included to use the Hot Tub once a day. We also should have done our research a little bit more as we didn’t realise a log fire hot tub takes hours to heat up and doesn’t bubble - so it wasn’t quite the traditional hot tub we had in mind, more like an outside bath but that’s totally our fault and it was very relaxing none the less once it had heated up looking out onto the views.

Just a note to the owners too, there is definitely a wasp nest being formed behind the wooden L seating area. We were unable to sit there for our duration as wasps were constantly flying into a side crack by the lodge entrance door and going into the back of the wooden seating area. It didn’t hinder our stay but wanted you to be aware as it was constant and don’t want it to cause a problem later on.

Thanks so much! ☺️

Thank you for a lovely 5* review of Daffodil, we are pleased you enjoyed your holiday and agree the views are breathtaking. Wood fired hot tubs do work differently to the electric equivalent but they are more environmentally friendly, the owners have built the lodges in a very eco friendly way so as to have the least impact on the environment as possible, this theme is followed through to the hot tubs. We have made the owners aware of the wasp nest and they are looking into getting this removed, thank you for bringing this to their attention.

Lovely short stay

Great stay at Bluebell (name needs updating on Cumbrian Cottages), cabin absolutely perfect and we had a fantastic time! Only small issues were the hot tub took about 2.5 hours to get hot and then stuff floated out of the pipe into the water. This is first time using a wood fired tub so not sure if that's normal. Also a lot of flies around in summer months so very difficult to have doors/windows open.

We are sorry to hear you had problems with the hot tubs, we have reported this to the owner who will investigate this. Regrettably there is little that can be done about the flies as the lodge is in a rural farming area. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future.
