Built in the mid-19th Century on a cliff side overlooking Bouley Bay, L'Etacquerel Fort is a great base for exploring Jersey's rugged north coast. Built with traditional Jersey granite, the property itself is very basic, with no running water or electricity but what it lacks in mod-cons it makes up for in character and stunning views.

Situated along a steep coastal path, access is across the dry moat on a high wooden bridge. L’Etacquerel Fort is a back to basics property, with tables and benches in the guardhouse where there is also a large fireplace. Spread across two levels, the property has plenty of outside space along with a terraced area. The Fort is not connected to any utilities, but there are two composting toilets on site.

Another inspirational weekend at Le Tacqueral Fort. 14 people braved the elements for our 5th installment of 'Journey into the Wild'. It is a beautiful location with just the right balance of leisure and 'roughing it' as we connected to nature. The sessions worked really well, and eating and swimming together were a joy. The weather meant that we could actually sleep outside in the fresh air which added to the whole experience.

The weather was against us on our visit and as the Fort was not watertight (leaks from ceiling) we were unable to sleep over.

We chose to stay at the fortress for two nights due to its remote location away from everyday life. We enjoyed the peace and tranquilly and the sound of the sea crashing against the rocks below.

As the fortress is situated away from artificial lighting, this provided the perfect opportunity to clearly see the stars and also faintly see the Milky Way directly above, which was a nice surprise.

It was the perfect location to catch up with old friends over a small campfire in the firepit.

In terms of facilities, it's extremely basic, as there is no electricity or running water. However,  we came prepared, and this wasn't an issue.

In regards to the toilet, it uses a composting toilet, which is again basic but clean and serves its purpose.

I would happily stay here again should the opportunity arise.

Our retreat went really well and despite the weather the venue was great. One aspect which was of slight concern was the chimney in the main room. We had to have the doors open at night as the room was filling with smoke. I think the chimney just needs a good sweep. Other than that our accommodation was fine.
As you may be aware we have run and will be running multiple adventure retreats and it would make an enormous difference if we were able to store some of our equipment at the fort as a lot of the effort is carting stuff down. We were wondering if this would be an option in the future? Thank you.

We booked the site for our staff get together and had an enjoyable evening. A very special place, with a view of the sea and the sun going down. Everything was well prepared and the fire worked well to keep us all warm!

Excellent. For the more hardy.

1st class location. Dolphins, peregrine falcons and lots of other wildlife. Good to get back to nature a bit. No electric or running water but no problems for the well prepared. Would definitely do it again.
Thank you

L'Etacquerel Fort was the perfect location for our Wellness Wednesday session - tidy and peaceful, the basic set up fulfilled all our needs. We used different places around the Fort for the different parts of the session making the most of the site's outdoor and indoor areas. The workshop ended with a beautiful sunset!

One of a kind property. Amazing experience. Don’t underestimate the footpath if there are older people in your party.

We really enjoyed our stay at L'Etacqueral Fort and would definitely hire again for a family celebration. Spent the weekend BBQing and enjoying the spectacular views overlooking Bouley Bay which is one of my favourite beaches ! and thinking about the history of the fort.

There is lots of space and rooms and is very quiet and peaceful. The only improvements we would suggest is to power wash the stairs on a regular basis as these became a bit slippy, have a generator ready to hire locked away on site to save guests having to carry all the way down and back up again, although this certainly did not spoil our stay.

We had an amazing stay in the sun with friends. We enjoyed 2 nights camping, the toilet facilities are clean and appreciated! The area is beautiful with different parts of the fort being able to be used during different bits of the day for dining, playing games and watching the sunset. Listening to the sea every day was a pleasure from such a beautiful and private venue.
It would be good to be able to lock the fort from the inside as we did have a few visitors!
