The farmhouse is beautifully appointed, spacious, welcoming ( very warm with an Aga), surrounded by lovely walking areas. The kitchen has every gadget you might need! Anthony was always available if necessary. We arrived to a selection of home produce; marmalade, honey, eggs etc. The house felt more like a home. I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation.
We had a great week here, with teenagers through to octogenarians. Anthony and Sue were great, very helpful and accommodating. COVID precautions were sensible but not intrusive. We walked, cycled, mountain-biked, went to the beach, fed lambs, played cricket, snooker, darts and ping pong, quad-biked and barbequed. Bliss.
The whole family loved their stay with Kirkwood Cottages and no one wanted to go home. It was so peaceful and away from the crowds. The girls loved roaming around the beautiful estate on their bikes freely. Walks to the river to spot wildlife was a treat. Great thanks to Anthony and family for all their help, the girls particularly enjoyed feeding the animals with Anne. We loved it! Xx
Pleasant stay, although quite basic, it suited our needs well. Nice location, we used the lodge as a base on a fishing holiday.
Our second stay in Roe Deer Cottage - we had a brilliant time again - hosts Anthony and Anne very welcoming and helpful. Set in a wonderful peaceful location for fantastic woodland walks that lead down to the river, literally on the doorstep - did some more exploring this time. We enjoyed fishing, feeding the lambs and chickens & the children played together outside. For any rainy days the games room is very handy for table tennis! Having said that we were really lucky with the weather and there are lots of great days out not too far away - 7 Stanes mountain biking and Rockcliffe beach. Hig...more
I have stayed here before, a few years ago, and it was exactly as I remembered it. I returned because I enjoyed previous visits, and I was not disappointed thus time.
Set off the beaten track in lovely woodland, the cottage was perfect for our need to get away from it all. Lovely walks along the river each evening and a real fire to come back to. Slightly more than we usually pay but it wouldn't put me off returning.
A comfortable cottage in an isolated setting which suited our needs, allowing our 2 dogs free access to large open area, The decor is rustic and the furniture reminded us of student accommodation - very dated and a bit "creaky", especially the beds. The additional facilities advertised - games room, bicycles , laundry in the stable block - were about a 20 minute walk away (or a short drive) and it would not be possible to tell if these were in use by the families that lived in the cottages around that block until you actually got there, so not as useful as we had imagined. We had brought ou...more
