The kitchen is the heart of the house and geared up for numbers and catering. Here entertaining is fun. The tables both inside and outside can easily accommodate 18 and 24 by arrangement. Local caterers work in the house regularly.
The private and secluded garden and grounds are about 2 acres. There is plenty of space to play house badminton or other activities plus there is a huge playing field with two football goals. Great spot of friendly cricket, rounders and football matches. In the outbuildings there is games room with pool table and table football (no heating) and a rustic table tennis room.
The property is situated on the Wye Valley walk and close to circular walks. There are good cycles routes nearby. There is a good eating pub and also cafe within a beautiful hours walk and a fantastic farmshop 1.8 miles from the house which is more than convenient!
Our typical guest is Granny and Grandpa with their children, grandchildren and sometimes great grandchildren. We also see reunions, milestone birthday and anniversaries plus walkers, cyclists, canoeists, gardeners and those who enjoy an active holiday. Book very early indeed for Hay Festival and prime holiday dates.
We are a group of around 20 walkers from Abergavenny who have been walking around Wales since 2015, first up the Wales Coastal Path from Chepstow to Chester and down Offa's Dyke. Monnington House was the last place we needed to stay together, as we are now near enough home to d day trips. Everyone agreed that it was the best accommodation we had had on our journey, and a very fitting conclusion.
We recently celebrated my 50th birthday at Monnington House, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place.
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the setting. Nestled in the stunning Herefordshire countryside, the house feels both grand and welcoming at the same time. The views over the surrounding fields and the peaceful atmosphere made it feel like our own private retreat for the weekend.
The house itself is absolutely fantastic — spacious, beautifully maintained, and full of character. Every room was comfortable and thoughtfully prepared, with plen...more
We had a great weekend with friends last weekend at Monnington House celebrating my husband’s birthday. The house was superb, very spacious and well decorated, there was plenty of room for us all to mix, and for some of us to have quieter time. The kitchen and dining room were well appointed with everything we needed to cater for the group- sixteen of us, and we had a choice of spaces to eat together all as a group, inside and outside.
The location is lovely, very quiet, and we enjoyed great walks.
We will definitely book this venue again for big family gatherings as indeed will our ...more
This was far and away the most comfortable, best-equipped place we have stayed. The information provided was very good. We found plenty to do (Hay, Hereford, Weobley, lots of beautiful churches and some excellent walks). It's a beautiful area and we'll definitely be coming back.
