We had a wonderful week in this great house! It is in a perfect location; we loved the view and being able to walk to such a perfect beach. We will be back!
Ideally suited for exploring the island. Short walk to the beautiful Kiloran Bay. Apartment is clean and well presented and has plenty of space. Make sure to explore the Colonsay House Gardens and surrounding woodland!
Staff at the Stables were very friendly and pretty laid back. Lovely rooms, very clean. Was a bit concerned that my elderly Dad might have taken a wrong turn and tumbled down the steep stairs in the night - could maybe do with something at the top of the stairs to prevent accidents (from looking at the visitor book, I believe someone did fall down them one time). Price for one night's stay is very steep.
Get away from it all on Colonsay, and especially at Balerhomindubh House. Don’t even consider it if you need WiFi or phone signal. It is perfect for old fashioned off grid holidays. The track is entertaining even in a 4x4 but with due care is easily manageable. The house is clean and comfortable with a good serviceable kitchen which ended up being where we all sat of an evening. The multi fuel stove in the sitting room is wonderful. Comfortable beds & simple decor (some a little tired but hey…!) it was a perfect spot for our fabulous stay & sleeps 2 families with ease. We had a great week enhanced by fantastic weather. Colonsay is charmingly unspoilt. Garvard in perfect position for walking the Strand to Oransay. Fantastic views. Very comfortable well equipped cottage and a pleasure dealing with Colonsay Holidays.
My husband had sailed to Colonsay a couple of times more than 35 years ago, and was keen to return to see more of the island. We are so glad that we did - we spent 4 nights in Baleromindubh Cottage, beautifully isolated with outstanding views across the sea to Jura and Islay. The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped, and was clean and full of character. It was surrounded by sheep and birds and a few rabbits, and open to the elements adding to the sense of being away from everything. Cold nights were comfortable as we had ordered a sack of coal that kept the kitchen, where we were ha...more
Spotlessly clean, extremely well maintained & appointed. Lovely open fire, kitchen, diner, lounge area & bedroom. Ideal location for a long break to explore the islands many beaches. Very pleasant staff & always a very warm welcome. Look forward to my next visit.
We stayed for 3 nights and were glad we could move on to Islay. This appartment has uncomfortable chairs, beds are short, no firewoord for the stove, no information opening hours restaurants, shops, postoffice etc. Very strange that general store closes the moment the ferry arrives. Concluding: visitors are not very welcome on Colonsay?
We love Scalasaig Farmhouse. As a large family with grown children it suits us well. The house was warm, dry & comfortable. Kitchen terrific for family feasts & chats.
We stayed in Nursery mostly because prices of other properties on Colonsay have just got too high. Even that hardly compares favourably with the £500 per week we paid for a very nice large two bedroom bungalow on Tiree - in June. However, if/when we return to Colonsay we would stay in Nursery again. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the sunny aspect and the view. We filled in all the paper requests for reviews left in the flat and if you read them you will find we had suggestions to improve the kitchen equipment
Fantastic location and some great weather for the time of year..sadly it’s let down on basic things like no outdoor furniture at all, some half decent knives etc but overall another great time on Colonsay
We had a super week on Colonsay and the brilliant location of Harbour Cottage meant we were very handy for all the local amenities! We would especially recommend the Seafood evenings at Colonsay Pantry on Wednesdays and Saturdays - the seafood Platter was excellent! The walk to Balnahard is long and not particularly easy, but the beach is truly worth the effort and we’re so glad we did it! Kiloran is also a wonderful beach and very easy to access! The walk over to Oronsay was lovely, but would have been a lot easier if we’d had wellington boots! The bathroom at Harbour would benefit from a b...more
Colonsay Cottages booking and customer service are EXCELLENT. So helpful and kind. Despite Calmac's poor service in getting us to and from Colonsay, this short holiday was made good by the helpful customer service and booking officer of Colonsay Cottages - Tanya.
Good cottage for the 2 of us with the 2 dogs. The weather was very wet and we thought we would use the fire so I asked for coal as an afterthought which was efficiently provided on our arrival. We are not fans of night storage heaters. Not sure whether the log burner is geared up to using smokeless coal. The bunker is damp and the kindling was a bit slow burning too - we were glad we brought our own additional. Its very important to dry clothes and to heat a bit of water. We tried not to use the immersion as the shower is electric. The bath is quite high to get in and out of. The kitchen had e...more
The cottage is fine and close to a wonderful beach. It was clean and cosy and had everything we needed for the two of us to be comfortable for our stay. For more than two people though the tiny bathroom, small kitchen and very steep stairs up to the two attic bedrooms would make this a tricky for families. WiFi basically didn't work which was a bit frustrating but we are on a small island
We had a few days at Pondside in mixed weather and appreciated its warmth. It’s in a secluded spot up a short track and reached by driving past a sign which says “No cars beyond this point “. The nearby wind turbine can be heard but it’s nevertheless a quiet place. The upstairs bedrooms are comfortable. The kitchen and living room are small but cosy and warm. We didn’t use the dining room being able to eat at the kitchen table and didn’t miss having no TV. It has a useful porch for wet things and a small garden good for sitting outside in better weather. You can walk around the estate woodland...more
The location is wonderful and worth it for that alone. The neighbours are lovely, which isn't always the case when the holiday makers arrive. The garden of the (current) caravan is a marvel and I spent happy times gazing and inhaling the scent of all those roses and sweet peas. The kitchen and bathroom of the cottage have both been refurbished and are in much better condition, though both are v small and require some manoeuvring. Plates abound but the glassware is limited for a cottage for 4-6 and a large casserole dish (there is a pyrex lid but no bowl) or similar would really help. The fr...more
