The cottage was lovely and the location stunning with incredible views across to Jura and Islay. The cottage was comfortable and well appointed and the lack of TV and radio an added bonus. The staff which we dealt with for booking and general enquiries were helpful and efficient. All of the instructions, guidance and directions to do with the cottage and the island in general were clear and easily understood. The only drawback was the track down to the cottage which was very rough and had to be negotiated slowly and very carefully with an ordinary family car. An added bonus was however that it...more
Excellent accommodation whilst cycling on Colonsay. Easy access and beautiful grounds to explore when not at the beach!
Spacious, well equipped, comfortable apartment well located for walking to Kiloran Bay to watch the sunset
Baleromindubh House is worth the journey along the rough track. We came with bicycles and left them by the gate so we didn't have to bring them back and forth over the rough track everyday. It has beautiful views across the garden to the sea and Jura beyond. It's well placed for visiting Oransay and doing the coastal walk along from the Strand. Also close enough to the pub and shops that make it easy to nip out to get supplies or have a meal in the evening. The house has two double rooms and three twin rooms and a well-equipped spacious kitchen. The living room was cosy and small but had e...more
Thoroughly enjoyed staying at the very comfortable and clean Turnigil apartment for 3 nights. Highly recommend!
Garvard is in a beautiful and peaceful location , but given it sleeps 10 the spaces & facilities are insufficient for 10 adults . Felt it was overpriced and electricity was an additional cost . It was clean the cleaners do a great job .
The island of Colonsay is a perfect place to stay if you want peace, quiet, fabulous beaches, wildlife encounters and friendly people. Most holidaymakers we met were return visitors. Baleromindubh Cottage is an old building which has been nicely adapted for holiday lettings. It is simply furnished but the fixtures and fittings are in good condition. The building is old and it does have solid walls and floors so you need to be prepared to use the heating at cooler times. The location is very quiet but in easy reach of the rest of the island. Access is via a track which might be difficult ...more
This was an average apartment for the price paid. The location is good, however, especially for Kiloran bay. The kitchen is tiny but has plenty of cupboard space for food and is well equipped. The bed is comfortable but is only a double with a double duvet. A king sized duvet would be much better as would decent sized towels.
Our third year at the farmhouse. Comfortable and well appointed for four couples and well located for the island attractions. We particularly enjoyed the cosy porch room with views of the garden and surroundings.
A lovely cosy apartment at the top of Colonsay House. Quite a hike up 2 flights of stairs, so probably not great for people with mobility issues. Very well equipped with everything you need for a week's self-catering. Great to have all the resources available to make an open fire at no cost. Similarly, the availability of laundry facilities for free was much appreciated. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom ceiling very low over bath, hence no shower - but this was made clear in booking information. Just needed to be mindful not to bang head when getting out! Customer service was second to no...more
We had an amazing time in Machrins, 10 adults , 2 babies, 3 toddlers. It was everything we were expecting and a fabulous place to spend a family holiday. Remember cot sheets if you’ve asked for cots and freezer needs a defrost but that takes time and with back to back bookings that’s just not possible. We would certainly return and highly recommend. The cottage was perfect for our needs. Very comfortable and well equipped. Although in the harbour, it is tucked away and very sheltered. Loved being near the shop, gallery, bookshop, smokery, hotel and ferry! Colonsay is idyllic. If we manage back, we would stay here again!
Myself & a friend stayed in Avenue Cottage for a week last month. We had a brilliant week which was mainly down to the comfort & location of Avenue Cottage, and the incredible weather. The cottage is situated among the trees and is very peaceful apart from the amazing birdsong. The cottage is very spacious with good size bedrooms & bathrooms. The decor is lovely and the furniture very comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and has good modern appliances. The showers are excellent. The only slight issues I would mention are: As the cottage is surrounded by trees it can fe...more
A cosy, sheltered 4 bedded cottage on the edge of the spectacular wooded gardens. Great walks from the cottage to Kiloran Bay and beyond and to Loch Fada. We particularly enjoyed having the garden
A great little hideaway near the outstanding Kiloran beach. Tanya and the team couldn't have been more helpful (as is everyone on the island!) picking us up from the airport and dropping our bags at the ferry on the Sunday. The cottage is clean and comfortable with everything you need. It's not got a view and is a little cold without the fire lit, but when we did that we had nice cosy evenings, and the location is unbeatable, with the most gorgeous countryside on the doorstep.
There were 4 adults in our group and there was plenty of space and equipment for all of us. We partly chose this cottage because it is in the centre of the island and so gave easy access by bike to all area's. Some of the other cottages are up long tracks or quite remote. We had lovely weather so enjoyed sitting outside on the patio in the afternoons listening to the birds. Colonsay is lovely and we really enjoyed our week there.
Celebrating 20 years of coming to Colonsay with the family and staying with Colonsay Estate Cottages. Lovely week. Kiloran Bay is a very special place.
