The cottage was lovely and the location stunning with incredible views across to Jura and Islay. The cottage was comfortable and well appointed and the lack of TV and radio an added bonus. The staff which we dealt with for booking and general enquiries were helpful and efficient. All of the instructions, guidance and directions to do with the cottage and the island in general were clear and easily understood. The only drawback was the track down to the cottage which was very rough and had to be negotiated slowly and very carefully with an ordinary family car. An added bonus was however that it...more
Excellent accommodation whilst cycling on Colonsay. Easy access and beautiful grounds to explore when not at the beach!
If you have even the smallest chance of staying at Baleromindubh House on Colonsay ... GRAB IT WITH BOTH HANDS! Colonsay is a delightful , calming, beautiful place - stunning beaches and great walks . Baleromindubh House is a fabulous base from which to explore everything on the island. Beautifully kept up, well equipped and in a stunning location, with plenty of room for friends and family . Just a brilliant place - with a fantastic team behinds the scenes to ensure everything goes as smoothly as you would want it to
Well appointed and nicely presented little apartment with good customer service, set in attractive location
We appreciated the clear communications from the Cottages Team and Garvard was v clean on arrival. Well equipped for families or a small group staying to enjoy the outdoors or to spend time together in the house. Fabulous place to ‘get away from it all’ and admire the stunning scenery!
Spacious apartment. Comfortable double bed. Mismatch of kitchen items irritatingly mismatched glassware, no champagne flutes. No coasters for coffee table or bedside cabinets. We asked for extra but quite sharply told "no" there were none! Very draughty and difficult to keep warm and cosy, however free coal was provided which was provided, but we had to go down two flights of stairs, across the courtyard to heave it back up to the apartment. It was nice to have access to the grounds which we walked a couple of times. If you are prepared to accept these irritations then the location make...more
Remote and very comfortable. This is just what we were looking for. A very useful base from which we were able to explore the whole island. Despite the sometimes poor weather we had many good walks. On the negative side, MacBraynes performance in getting us back to the mainland was abysmal.
The apartment had an excellent blend of the traditional and modern. Kitchen and bathroom were contemporary, but the traditional furnishings of the rest of the apartment, all in perfect condition, made the place so homely and welcoming. Everything was fresh and clean. The starter items of coffee, etc. were an added touch. There was nothing to fault Required information was clearly given in a folder and the lack of notices which festoon many a self-caterging establishment was a welcome feature. It made the place seem more like home.
A great location for exploring Colonsay. Short walk to Kiloran Bay. Comfortable flat with more space than expected. Cafe staff very helpful and kind. Reception staff not very evident so if you are a first time visitor do your research beforehand. Lots of great walks.
We much enjoyed our stay at Scalasaig Farmhouse. It is spacious and comfortable. It is conveniently located for meals out and central for exploring this beautiful island.
A very well situated cottage for exploring the island and watching wild life. Convenient for hotel and pantry for evening meals.
We lived our time at Machrins. It was a perfect location and very well appointed. It suited our two families of boys and a Gran’ma very well! We will be back…
On arrival and entering Avenue Cottage, the first thing to hit us was the over-riding smell of dampness and the couch was wet to the touch. It became necessary to put on the heating to attempt to combat this and to add insult to injury, the owners were charging for the use of oil and electricity, albeit with a £20 allowance for the week. This dampness had been mentioned in earlier reviews but it seems nothing has been done about it. The electrical items in the kitchen were fine but crockery was somewhat lacking e.g. not enough mugs owing to a good sized dishwasher. The cooking equipment was...more
We loved the cottage and had a very enjoyable stay. The accommodation was entirely comfortable and suitable for our requirements. The weather was such that we did not need to use the heating although we enjoyed having the fire in the evenings. We intend to visit again in June time probably next year as this visit enabled us to recce the island on our first visit and we now have a range of things we would like to do on our next visit. A few constructive comments firstly on pricing. Before we arrived we felt we were charged 5* prices for a Eurocamp arrangement. Pay to have the beds made, pay fo...more
The property is fine for a week if you don't want or need luxury, with all the basics catered for. The bed was comfortable, nice amount of storage in the main bedroom, but nothing in the twin room. We were there as a couple. If there were 4 of you then I think space may be a tad limited, if it was 2 couples it'd be tight. If it's a family then travel light! The bedrooms are at the far end of the cottage from the bathroom, so if a night time visit is needed then it's a walk through the property. The bathroom is probably the room most in need of updating, though it was clean and functional. The ...more
The cottage is in a great location for easy access to beautiful Kiloran Bay, although there are no views of the bay from the cottage. The cottage was clean and comfortable, the kitchen small but very well equipped. The lounge is a bit dark as there is limited natural light but there are a lot of lamps. The lounge smells of damp which is most noticeable when you first enter the cottage as the front door opens into the lounge. Putting the heating on would probably get rid of this, but we didn’t wish to do this in July. There is also an additional charge for the electricity that you use. The cot...more
Celebrating 20 years of coming to Colonsay with the family and staying with Colonsay Estate Cottages. Lovely week. Kiloran Bay is a very special place.
