We found the cottage to be extremely comfortable with a lot of thought having been given, by the owners, how to make our accommodation as comfortable as possible - we appreciated all the little touches (e.g. the eggs, the flowers etc.). There was a load of local information provided and we had some excellent walks with the dog. We have boomarked this as a place to which to return.

Everything about this cottage is just right with every last detail attended to from welcoming flowers and fresh fruit etc to immaculate cleanliness and electric car charging. This was our second visit to these cottages and for us, they represent the gold standard in self catering accommodation. The quiet village location is good for walks from your door or for short drives to loads of interesting places. Within easy reach there are beautiful landscapes, lovely pubs with great food and so much else to explore from lively towns and rural villages to the magnificent city of Chester. Perfect hosts too. Can't wait to return!

The cottage is lovely and cosy and dog friendly! We enjoyed are stay and found the information booklets at the cottage really useful; on the local and surrounding area, during our stay. We highly recommend the Sandstone Inn pub, 10 min walk down the road, who serve local ale and amazing food.

We have just returned from our 7th stay at Sandstone Trail Cottages, and as always everything was perfect, including the weather! Jackie and Ray have become like good friends and can’t do enough to help, including arranging for me to take my car to their local garage first thing the following day after a late afternoon arrival, having had to call out the AA on our journey there. The cottage was immaculate, as it always is, and we will definitely be arranging our 8th visit soon.

When arriving at Baker's cottage we were greeted by Jackie and Ray with a very warm welcome. The cottage was beautiful, clean and cosy our two dogs loved the break and were also always made welcome. This was our second visit to Bakers Cottage. Usually we avoid going back to the same place having been disappointed in the past. However we were so impressed last time we decided it was worth the gamble. I didn’t think it could surpass our previous experience but it most definitely did. The welcome was as warm as the gorgeous weather. Jackie and Ray are the most perfect hosts. We really felt at home and with friends. The cottage is just so cosy and whatever the weather is a lovely retreat. We were very lucky this time as the weather was beautiful. Ideal for indulging in a large glass of wine in the pretty little garden which is fully enclosed if you have a dog. Our dog loves it there and was quite depressed on his return having enjoyed the wonderful walks on the doorstep. The cottage is so well equipped and has everything you could ask for. Whether your ideal holiday is touring the area, dog walking, hiking or just chilling, this cottage is just perfect. It’s location is superb. You have the choice of driving in so many directions that you have an endless supply of interesting places to visit even with a dog. There are so many dog friendly pubs nearby that welcome you with open arms and the food is excellent. We would recommend The Architect in Chester and The Rising Sun in Tarporley We will be returning next year if not sooner. Just simply wonderful in every way . See you soon!

We stayed at Baker's Cottage over Easter weekend for 4 nights and we were delighted with the facilities in the cottage. It had a huge comfy bed, a lovely clean modern shower room and a small, but well equipped kitchen. The location is very peaceful and our stay was very relaxing.
My only gripe, a very small one to be fair, is that there were no large mugs for my morning coffee. We always bring our own anyway.
We will certainly consider staying here again.

We stopped at this lovely cottage for a long weekend so we could attend a friend's wedding at Carden Park, the cottage was in a nice peaceful and scenic location but only about a 10 minutes drive to get to the wedding venue. We chose the cottage due to it being dog friendly and due to it's location. The cottage was very well equipped and came with everything you need for a nice break away and the owners Ray and Jackie were extremely helpful for with anything we asked them. What a wonderful relaxing few days we have had in Bakers Cottage. From the cosy, home from home cottage including milk, tea and eggs to the beautiful vase of flowers and welcoming bowl of water waiting for our dog-our hosts Jackie and Ray had thought of everything. The cottage itself is so well equipped, exceptionally clean and very comfortable. It is a perfect base to explore the wonderful walks on the doorstep and so peaceful. There are so many interesting houses, gardens and castles to visit. We only went for a few days and were spoilt for choice! If you need to recharge and unwind, then this the place for you. There is even a very cute garden to enjoy your favourite tipple and for us dog owners the fact it is enclosed and a safe haven makes it even better! The local pubs are extremely dog friendly and the food excellent. We particularly loved The Lion at Malpas though parking maybe tight if you go later in the evening. Jackie and Ray made us and our dog so welcome and we will certainly be booking for next year.

Baker’s Cottage was ideal for our purpose of a little sightseeing, people visiting and relaxation. Very peaceful with local residents friendly. Although we were not able to take full advantage because of other commitments, the immediate walking opportunities were really good and ideal for dogs as well. We particularly appreciated the useful information provides about eateries, places to visit and walking routes. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. I had a delightful four night break in the spotlessly clean Baker's cottage. The attention to detail is amazing, tasteful decor, fantastically well equipped (despite the blurb saying that items have been kept to a minimum due to covid restrictions) and the bed is so comfy. The property is wonderfully dog friendly - Dexter enjoyed his complimentary fleecy dog throw, jar of treats and the heated dog wash was a god send for the muddy paws. We didn't need to use the doggy washing machine/drier but what a fantastic facility that is too. The location of the cottage is gorgeous, lovely views out over the sandstone trail, a great little village and fabulous walks right from the door.
All in all I will be back.

The cottage is well equipped and finished to a very high standard.The location is in a beautiful small village with stunning walks right from the cottage door. It is also a great base for trips to Chester, North Wales beaches and the many historic castles, gardens and country walks in the area. Very dog friendly with fully enclosed private garden. Private off road parking with a 7kw Type 2 electric vehicle charger. Ray and Jackie are the most genuine, helpful and welcoming hosts we have met and it was a pleasure to meet them and stay there. We can't thank them enough for making our stay so delightful and we highly recommend the Sandstone Trail Cottages.

We have stayed at this cottage before so knew it was a lovely place to stay. However during these difficult times , we were very reassured by the hosts statement regarding their “ Covid 19 “ measures and procedures in the cottage ,as outlined on their website. It was indeed immaculate and we had no reservations whatsoever staying there . Thank you for the evident thought and care taken . It made our stay a pleasure!

We were nervous about staying away on our first trip out of lockdown, but Ray and Jackie did everything to ensure our safety, even sanitizing the handset when we asked to borrow the phone (No mobile signal). The cottage is just perfect and the countryside is glorious.

We booked both cottages for the weekend of the Chester 10K. From the minute we arrived to our departure we were looked after by Rae & Jackie. Both cottages were immaculate and had everything we needed for our stay. Lots of little touches too which made our stay all the better. We enjoyed fantastic walks from the cottage and local pubs are excellent. A hidden gem. Look forward to seeing you next year. Thank you for a great weekend.

The cottage is really lovely, every little detail has been thought of. We always go on walking weekends and never have we stayed anywhere so welcoming for our dog. The outside hot wash, the extra collar in the cupboard to pop on with the details of the cottage on, the dog blanket for the sofa (as we all love a cuddle up). The owners are so friendly and welcoming. Couldn’t recommend enough.

This was a lovely, little, cosy cottage that had not compromised its high standard to accommodate dogs. Lots of thought had gone in to make holidaying with the dog as easy as possible. We were able to park the car outside the cottage when we arrived and enjoy walking everyday straight from the front door: much to our car sick dog's delight! The walk to the Pheasant Inn is worth the effort. Ray and Jackie clearly love dogs and were very helpful. Thank you

From the moment we arrived at our cottage for a short break we were given a warm welcome by our hosts Ray & Jacquie. The cottage was perfect for our stay of 6 nights, we would have loved to have had the time to stay for longer.
Everything about the cottage was perfect for us, clean, every need catered for and immaculately presented The cottage is located in a quiet village, but it only takes 20 mins to get to the historic city of Chester, and less than an hour to get parked up in Liverpool if you are looking for something more “up beat” .
A few hundred yards and you are on the Sandstone Trail walks, well worth the effort of climbing to see the beautiful views across to wales and also across to the city of Liverpool. With so many lovely Cheshire villages all within a short drive you can enjoy plenty outdoor time. We were very fortunate as the weather was fantastic all week, this meant that we didn’t manage to do the indoor, museum activities originally planned for our break. The good news- we have found an ideal base to return to so we can do these things next time with plans to make that visit sooner rather than later.

This is a lovely cottage with absolutely everything provided. We felt very comfortable and at home there. Fresh eggs, milk, fruit and flowers included. The cottage is scrupulously clean and well kept. The owners are very friendly and helpful if required. It is in a beautiful location with plenty of lovely walks. There are numerous excellent pubs around (a different one for every day of the week) if you want to eat out. I cannot recommend this cottage enough and I’m sure we will visit again. I was able to buy some fresh eggs from them to take home with me. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

This is a lovely, comfortable and very well equipped cottage and the owners, who live next door, were very friendly and helpful. The cottage made a great place to stay on our first visit to this part of the country. Our two dogs loved playing in the adjacent garden. The cottage is well placed for walks along the Sandstone Trail and in the local area and visiting nearby towns and attractions.

We arrived in the pouring rain to be met by our kind and considerate host holding an umbrella welcoming us to this lovely Baker’s cottage. We have stayed in some pretty good places on our travels but this is up with the best!! The cottage is clean and welcoming and has all the equipment and facilities you would expect all in a super location. We had such a lovely, peaceful and comfortable week at Baker's Cottage. Hosts Jackie and Ray were very welcoming and helpful and made a point of making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. There were lovely touches of eggs from their chickens, honey from their bees, fresh flowers and fruit bowl. Every appliance we needed was supplied in the cottage and was spotlessly clean and high quality. Lovely crisp white cotton sheets, an immaculate and hot power shower, too many extra little things to mention which showed attention to detail and it was obvious our hosts wanted to make our stay enjoyable. We would definitely recommend Bakers Cottage for a holiday in Cheshire, it was close enough to Chester, Liverpool and many other places to visit and some lovely walks with or without a dog. We would definitely stay here again.

It is a strange phenomena. I find that as I get older I get more and more fussy. My wife of course, she does not get any older. She is still 27 and three quarters, but there a lot of three quarters.She too is growing more particular. So when she "suggested" we stayed at Sandstone Cottages, self catering I did wince a bit. But maybe that was because I looked as if I might disagree with her so she had thrown me over her shoulder again! Did I mention she had a Cambridge Blue at Judo? My wife explained that the cottage looks great on the website, and takes dogs. That meant our Wilma, so named because I am Fred and my wife is Betty (if only that were true...I am Betty!) could come with us as well. I asked my beloved if we could stay in a nice hotel. But she agreed with Rachel, my wife, so we arrived at Sandstone Cottages on 22nd June, to walk the Sandstone Trail.
We were welcomed by Ray. He had rebuilt the two cottages almost entirely by himself. Indeed he was just laying the final brick as we arrived! He led us in to a delightful cottage and showed us the informative and comprehensive folders regarding the cottage, places of interest, maps, walks for walkers, and for walks by car, and most importantly good places to eat. The cottage is beautifully appointed. Ray and Jackie have thought of everything right down to the smallest detail such as torches in your bedside tables and fresh herbs to use on the window sill. The television is really state of the art. You can watch a programme from the beginning even if it is half way through the actual broadcast. I thought the people next door already watching the same programme must get a little bit fed up each time their neighbour starts it from the beginning again, biut that's modern technology for you! I still prefer the BBC Home Service!
The lay out of the cottage is excellent. The bathroom is a good size with an excellent walk in shower. The bed is very comfortable. I say that, but after two 15 mile walks, most beds are comfortable.But this one really was good.The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly want. You even get eggs from Jackie's happy hens! The lounge is also very comfortable with a nice leather settee and armchair. As for Wilma, there is even a dedicated washing machine for her in one of the out houses. How she knew which buttons to press amazed me.
Ray and Jackie were always on hand to help. They even acted as our chauffeurs, ferrying us daily to the start point of our walk, and picking us up when we had finished. Mind you, they would have been even better hosts if they actually did the walk for us and we could have relaxed in the garden and sunbathed. Still, you can;t have everything as my mother in law says. Do you know my mother in law has been coming round to our house for Christmas Day every year for the past 25 years? Well this year will be different. We might actually let her in! So to sum up, a fantastic cottage run by two very professional people who take great pride in offering first class accomadation. The area is beautiful too. It is well worth a visit. We recommend the property whole heartedly. You will struggle to find anything better! We also recommend those free range eggs. A more yellow and delicious yoke you will not find anywhere!

We had a wonderful week in Baker's cottage which is very well furnished and finished to a high standard and the location was ideal for walking our Italian Spinone Alice as there are numerous walks direct from the door so no need to use the car. Jackie and Ray are fantastic hosts who made us fell very welcome and nothing was too much trouble in ensuring our stay was perfect. Highly recommend this superb cottage.

This was our 2nd visit to Sandstone Trail Cottages but our first time at Baker's Cottage. It was another wonderful few days in a fabulous, immaculate but homely cottage. We didn't think it could get any better than the last time we stayed but the hosts Ray and Jackie have since added some special touches which make the experience even more enjoyable. The attention to detail is evident in everything they have created here. The addition of the coffee machine was very much appreciated as was the folder containing details of all the lovely local walks which we made full use of. The cottages are simply superb, so comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly want, and more! Thank you again Ray and Jackie, we will be back again soon, that's a promise.

The cottage was excellent in all regards and we were particularly impressed by the extra welcoming touches. The owners were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay most enjoyable.

Another wonderful stay at Bakers Cottage. As always Jackie and Ray were the perfect hosts, the cottage was immaculate and despite the weather we had a thoroughly enjoyable few day's stay. We will be back in the spring next year, hopefully to stay a bit longer.

From the booking process to checking out nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, the cottage is beautiful, very well equipped, cosy fire, amazingly comfortable beds, powerful shower and idyllic location you can't help but relax. Would definitely recommend.

Both Baker's Cottage and Granary Cottage are delightful with period charm, but meticulously renovated. All modern amenities are included with plenty of space for 2 people, perhaps a baby, too. The hosts are friendly and helpful. They are beekeepers, and own chickens, so there are always fresh eggs and honey. It is a short walk to the scenic Sandstone Trail, and Chester is within 30 minutes, a lovely city. Nantwich is also charming, and other historic and scenic places are within a short drive. Beeston Castle is well worth a visit. A grill and outdoor space allow for barbeques, or just sitting in the sun amidst a lovely landscape.

Chose this cottage as it looked great for a short break for the Wife and I plus our little dog. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you could need for a break away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. Very clean and comfortable, with great host.

We stayed for a week at the end of June beginning of July. The weather wasn't so good but that didn't stop us hiking in and around the local area and enjoying our stay at Sandstone Trails Cottages. We had a lovely warm welcome from our hosts and the cottage was warm and inviting when we arrived. The eggs, milk and honey were very welcome, and it was lovely being able to make a cup of tea as we settled in. Ray and Jackie were always there to help when we needed it, but never too intrusive, they create a perfect balance. The cottage kitchen is well furnished with all you need for a self-catering holiday, and the bathroom is very luxurious.
The local walks provide some absolutley stunning views and there is a folder with suggested walks that have been laminated, very nice touch and much easier to deal with than a big map or worrying about the GPS not working on your phone. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday, very relaxing and enjoyable. Looking forward to visiting again.

Such a beautiful and very comfortable cottage, in a wonderful location with lots of lovely walks locally! Excellent accommodation, very clean and comfortable, with so much attention to detail, and a very warm and friendly welcome from the owners. There's plenty to see and do in the area, and lots of good pubs to eat out at. We keep going back because we love it so much!

This was our second stay at Bakers cottage and again it did not disappoint. We did not think that there were any improvements necessary within the cottages but Jackie and Ray have managed to add some extra home comforts, showing how dedicated they are to providing the best self catering experience. We look forward to a return visit in the future.

I lived in the village in the 1940's and it has hardly changed and remains lovely and rural. Plenty of places to visit such as Chester and Chester Zoo (the best Zoo in Britain). Great farm produce and garden centre with a good restaurant at Holt.Great to see horses rather than cars coming through the village - very peaceful. Welcome gifts of honey and eggs await our arrival. Will return.

Jackie and Ray couldn't be more helpful. Both the cottages (yes, we have stayed in both) are immaculately presented, having been refurbished to a very high standard indeed. Location is wonderful, ideal for visiting Chester and surrounding areas and there are lovely walks from the doorstep.
