4 night's of luxury, peace and quiet. Close to centre of Carlisle but feels like a million miles away when relaxing in the hot tub, looking out over the lake.

Gorgeous house, with everything we needed to have a restful stay.
There’s a lake just outside where we went out on our own boat. The lake is shallow, so feels very safe.
There is a forest to go on walks. One thing that I did have an issue with was the insane dog behind a hedge as you complete your loop of the wood, approaching the property. The dog is right there, barking and roaring like some mythical creature from the underworld. My children, dog and I were all terrified of walking (running) past there. It’s clearly a very angry guard dog, and I can’t see a reason for it to be right on the other side of the hedge during the day. I can only see a reason for it being there at night for protection. The rest of the time it’s unnecessary intimidation of small children, dogs etc

Thank you for your lovely review. We’re so pleased to hear you had a restful stay and enjoyed the lake, forest walks and having your own boat. We’re sorry to hear that the neighbouring dog caused some distress, particularly for your children and dog. We completely understand how unsettling this must have been, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We’ll certainly raise your concerns with the relevant party. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back again.

Tranquility personified

Kingfisher lodge was everything we had hoped for and more. The setting is perfect with spectacular views of the whole Lough from the wraparound decking & large window. We loved the feeling of seclusion that Kingfisher offers whilst being completely immersed in the surrounding nature. The lodge is beautifully furnished with bright & airy decor & the most comfortable beds ever. The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in with all high spec appliances including a dishwasher. There is also a washing machine in a separate utility area. The huge hot tub is screened for complete privacy. We came hoping to relax & unwind from the stresses and strains of daily life & that’s exactly what we did. The tranquil atmosphere and surrounding nature of Kingfisher was exactly what we needed & it delivered in spades.
We can’t wait to go back!

Truly the correct name for the place, tranquility itself. Kingfisher lodge is perfectly secluded, quiet and peaceful. Lodge itself was beautifully designed and cared for with everything you'd need. We loved the little added touches such as binoculars and bird book, Welcome pack for the dog (and humands). Will definitely be back!

We have stayed in all lodges and this new addition didn’t disappoint. The cosy interior and vast outdoor decking area was great to relax. My only suggestion to improve would be to try and get the hot tub jets more powerful like some of the others and make the walk way to the lodge more gravelled as it was a little muddy taking our stuff to and from the car. We will definitely be back soon.

We booked Kingfisher lodge at the tranquil otter as we had watched it being built, and it was the newest lodge, I was expecting the very best lodge.
We have also stayed in Alder lodge and Dunnock lodge, which were fabulous.
The location of Kingfisher is perfect, the decking area is absolutely beautiful with easy entry to the water to use the canoe.
The hot tub is very good also.
It was disappointing that the outside table had no glass on it so we were using table mats from inside to stand drinks on or the glasses were likely to tip on the rattan surface.
In the kitchen area the table had marks on it and one of the chairs had a broken join on the back of it, another chair was wobbling when sat on, obviously not new to match the lodge.
The sofa was ok but the arm cushions had gone flat, again did not appear new like the lodge.
The shower door in the ground floor bathroom had dropped slightly, but this is a fabulous bathroom.
The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on, the pillows were good too.
If you are tall head space in some areas upstairs is limited due the the bed being under the eaves.
The upstairs bathroom has no mirror or storage area for your toiletries except for a small thin shelf.
There is space under the window for a little unit to be put in for storage and a mirror which would improve this.
The shower was good and water was hot.
The kitchen was well equipped.
As the lodge is new, I was expecting everything in it to be new but it wasn't and I felt disappointed with that, however it is a beautiful stunning spot to stay, it was perfectly clean, with good hot water and we had a relaxing stay.
All of my moans could be easily rectified and we will definitely be returning.

The lodge was amazing and fitted with modern appliances and a hot tub. The views over the lake were spectacular.
There was boat and a canoe, but couldn’t use the boat because there was only one oar.
We really enjoyed our relaxing break and would certainly recommend to other guests.

Staying at the Tranquial Otter was the peaceful experience I wanted - I enjoy birdwatching (and listening) and Bat watching lots of both. These days I need a mobility scooter to move around - the Tranquial Otter supplied one (plus a hand cart)to ferry me and my luggage from the carpark to the lodge - with no fuss. The staff were their usual helpful and kind selves.
I stayed in the new Kingfisher lodge - excellent layout and very well appointed - hopefully I’m able to visit again next year.
Thanks for an excellent stay.

Our stay at the Kingfisher lodge was absolutely perfect! <3
The lodge is beautiful with everything you need included. Comfortable seating area with stunning views, large outdoor area, private hot tub, top quality appliances very comfortable beds with quality bedding, thick fluffy towels and robes.
There is even a trolley available at the door to help transport bags etc from the car park to the lodge which was very handy.
Good wifi connection too.
Of all the lodges this one is definitely the most special :)

The only thing that will make the Tranquil Otter even better, is having some EV charge points (which I know they want to add when the network is available) but there is a retail park with fast chargers a few minutes drive away.

We booked the Kingfisher Lodge for my wife's 50th birthday, to celebrate with our grown up kids.
Wow! Was it first impression. Even after seeing the photos when we booked, the actual impression when you arrive is breathtaking!
The weather was gorgeous and we spent most of our days while at the lodge on the decking, our in the hot tub, of an evening!
There are several species of bird that have made their home in the lough, and we were treated to regular visit right up to the lodge by the geese and the swans. The boats for our use were fantastic, and we all had several trips around the lough. What an 'inclusive' experience!

The lodge is very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. Very private with wonderful views of the loch and all the wildlife and birds.
Swans and ducks came daily to be fed along with many other birds and squirrels.

Wow!!! What an amazing weekend stay we had at the kingfisher cabin at the tranquil otter.
The cabin was spotless and absolutely stunning. It was such a lovely touch to have a personal message wishing my partner a happy birthday and also two small bottles of Prosecco was such a thoughtful gesture.
We will definitely be returning soon! If you are thinking of booking, do it! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Thankyou ☺️

Visiting and staying at Kingfisher Lodge was just what the doctor ordered! Myself and girlfriend stayed at the spectacular log cabin and we loved the decor and clear attention to detail throughout. The bedding, comfy sofa, throws and blankets, plus log fire made the late afternoons and evenings particularly cosy.

All the bathroom mod-cons you can ask for, and the beautiful natural surroundings of the lake were a real good tonic for the soul. The swans would sometimes venture up to the jetty and my girlfriend loved that. Some real cosy pubs nearby too, go dine at The Crown and Thistle (…have a gander at the partridge pot pie).

Our booking was assisted by the kind hostess -‘Fiona’ - and she made notable efforts to accommodate me and my girlfriend before our booking, during our booking as well as afterwards. Overall, a very happy stay for me and my girlfriend, and we do intend to return, absolutely.

Absolutely love this place. The Cabin is stunning and caters to your every need. The walk round the Lough is so peaceful and ideal for spotting deers, squirrels, frogs and various birds. We enjoyed rowing as much as the dogs enjoyed paddling. The hot tub is the ideal place to watch the sunset before settling Infront of the log burner. Definitely be back perfect place to de-stress

We have stayed in the majority of the Lodges at the Tranquil Otter. This new Lodge has been taken to another level and is stunning in every aspect. We were greeted on the decking by two swans and an army of ducks and they were there the majority of the week which made it the most amazing views throughout the day. This was a really restful break and would definitely recommend this five star Lodge.

If you want a peaceful getaway, in a beautiful lodge with all the amenities you could ask for this is the place for you! Our stay was the perfect recharge after a hectic Xmas and we loved our stay. The lodge was stocked with everything you could ask for, along with plentiful supplies of logs to keep the stove burning. It was cleaned and maintained to a very high standard and everything worked beautifully from check in to check out. I only struggled at first to get the induction hob to work (due to lack of familiarity) but a quick look up on ChatGPT and it was sorted. I even managed to get some amazing shots on my camera given the natural surroundings and low light pollution for the night sky. One small suggestion would be to provide dog waste bins on the trails surrounding the lough but this is a minor gripe. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for an 'escape'!

Our New Year break was booked during a previous stay in May. The Tranquil Otter is a very special place anyway and when we saw Kingfisher (unfinished at the time) we absolutely knew it would be worth the wait!
I could wax lyrical about Kingfisher’s impressive appearance and external and internal styling. I find it stunningly fascinating and beautifully built. Similar in style to the Alder lodge, which is also fab!
Internally it is extremely comfortable and cosy and a real Christmas tree added a lovely touch. The location on the wildlife lake is just perfect, the glass balustrades on the deck allow for an unbroken view.
You can check the pics on website to see all of this for yourself.
What is more difficult to get across in a review is the feeling of privacy, relaxation and calmness in the lodges and at the location of Kingfisher and Tranquil Otter overall. You want to tell people all about it, yet keep it all to yourself too!
The Otter team are wonderful, on hand and very approachable and nothing feels like any bother - even at New Year!
Kingfisher is designed for and accommodates 4 people very comfortably but we enjoyed it as a couple - more space in the hot tub!
Really looking forward to our next stay at Tranquil Otter.
