Came for a pre-Christmas stay to watch Christmas movies and relax by the fire all day. We had a lovely time during our visit and it was exactly what we hoped for. We also enjoyed a peaceful walk on the trail around the lake, which made the stay even more relaxing. The kitchen was modern and clean, and the hot tub was lovely to sit out, unwind, and watch the birds.

The logs provided was enough to keep the fire going for 1 full day. We had the fire on all day and all evening until we went to bed so the amount that is provided is enough for 1 whole day. I would recommend getting another wheelbarrow full or bringing some logs (appropriate for a log burner) with you if you’re planning on having it on all day.

The lodge itself was perfect, although it was a shame there were no Christmas decorations, as this was the reason we chose The Tranquil Otter after seeing photos of decorated cabins on Instagram.

We did experience a few brief power cuts due to the strong winds during our stay. They didn’t last long, but they did interrupt the cosy atmosphere a little.

Overall, we still had a wonderful time and really appreciated the tranquillity of the surroundings.

A lovely setting around the lake providing fabulous sunsets even in November. The lodge was cosy and clean, it could have benefitted from a few more plates/cups/cutlery rather than just the minimum. We had a problem with two radiators not working but it was dealt with quickly if not fully but we were given extra logs so it didn’t impact our stay.

Overall a lovely stay and chill out time, fantastic night skies enjoyed from the hot tub - we would definitely recommend and hopefully return very soon

This was our 3rd stay in Fieldfare this year and it didn’t disappoint. Such a beautiful lodge, always spotlessly clean and welcoming. The bed is really comfortable which is always something I struggle with when we go away. The lodge is also wheelchair accessible, but it doesn’t look like an accessible building, it’s really subtly designed which makes all the difference. We are completely in love with Tranquil Otter and will be back in December, I can’t wait be back!

Stayed 2 nights at the Tranquil Otter for my Wife's Birthday, bottles of fizz were a lovely touch. Beautiful Lodge with all you could need. Owners very informative from booking till departure. Excellent location away fron it all, highly recommend. Star gazing on the porch at night was so relaxing.

We came here for our honeymoon and we will definitely be back! Even the constant rain didn't ruin our stay.

The lodge was the perfect mix of nature and the outdoors with the ability to still be 'on the grid'. The absolute quietness of the lodge with nothing but birdsong was so relaxing. Added to this was a row out onto the lake which was lovely. We also had a mother duck and her 2 babies come visit us daily. The natural woodland did an excellent job of keeping the hot tub and decking secluded - it didn't feel like there were lodges either side of us! The trees also did an excellent job of providing some cover from the rain while we were in the hot tub. It was so serene sat in the hot tub with the rain falling and the sun setting. Absolutely beautiful.

What was also great was the smart TV so we could snuggle down and watch a movie in front of the log fire. So cosy! We also ordered the welcome pack and we were incredibly impressed with the quality of the produce! Definitely worth it and very reasonably priced. We did book a BBQ but didn't get chance to use it but will save it for next time.

The lodge is perfectly placed so you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere yet close enough to places like Asda if you really need it.

If you're looking for somewhere that gives you that 'off the grid' tranquility with the home comforts then this is the perfect place. It is absolutely superb and we will be back!

We recently spent a week at the Tranquil Otter in the Fieldfare Lodge and found it to be a peaceful and well-appointed retreat. The lodge itself was very comfortable – the bed, sofa, and chair were all excellent for relaxing, and everything we could possibly need had been thoughtfully provided. It was great not having to pack lots of extras.

We had pre-ordered several extras including the breakfast pack, luxury welcome pack, and BBQ pack. These were generous and high quality, and they really helped cut down on shopping trips during our stay – a big plus when you’re trying to unwind.

A warm welcome awaited us, with a personalised message and a welcome box including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, and even a tea towel to take home – a lovely touch. However, our coffee sachet was already open, so we didn’t feel comfortable using it.

The bathroom was mostly pleasant – the heated towel rail was a real treat – but I did find the bath difficult to use due to the lack of grab rails and awkwardly placed side taps. It was a shame, as I’d hoped for a few long soaks. That said, the shower was excellent, so it became my go-to.

We were also looking forward to using the log burner, especially with the cooler weather, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it to burn properly despite carefully following the instructions provided on the app. The wood just didn’t catch, which was disappointing and left the lodge a bit chilly at times.

The natural surroundings were a highlight. I loved the bird feeders and spent many hours watching the wide variety of bird species, along with a charming family of mallards and numerous bats in the evening. As a keen wildlife photographer with a background managing luxury safari lodges in Southern Africa, I was particularly impressed by how well the property was run and maintained.

We didn’t use the canoe or rowboat due to the weather, but my husband did enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot tub and had no issues there.

All in all, it was a lovely stay in a beautiful location with thoughtful details and strong attention to guest comfort. While we may not return – simply because there are many other places we want to explore – we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Tranquil Otter to others looking for a nature-focused getaway in a cosy, well-equipped lodge.

This place is just so relaxing and perfect for a few days get away
The view onto the lake from your the lodge
The boats you can take out onto the lake was lovely
The lodge is secured off so if you do take a pet along they are restricted
The lodge is fully equipped to cook, make meals etc
Tv also had Netflix !
The beds were so comfy was a lovely size for the three of us
We also got 2x Prosecco and a dog treat box on arrival

Stayed for a weekend, had a truly relaxing time. Everything was there when we arrived, even though the other cabins are quite close, didn’t see or hear anyone, unless we were on the lake in the boats. Lodge was clean and comfortable and a nice hot tub. Would go back again

Absolutley loved it! from the moment we drove into the grounds you could tell it was a special place.
the fieldfare is a very spacious lodge overlooking a large lake and has everything you need, the bed is super comfy and the kitchen well equipped, the living room is very cosy with a log burner that is ready to go should you need it, the bathroom has a large bath with a seperate shower and is fully equipped also. the icing on the cake is when you open the bi fold doors onto the deck with a large hot tub and proper furniture and then a few metres away is your own private jetty with a boat!
We have stayed in many lodges but this beats them all, its also very very quiet which is part of its allure and is a policy adhered to by all visitors.
My only gripe would be the 16:00hr check in which is a bit inconvenient after a long journey and although this seems to be the norm in a lot of accommodation its definitely a deciding factor when choosing where to stay, overall the Tranquil Otter is a 10 out of 10 and we will be back soon.

We have stayed at the Tranquil Otter a number of times. It is the most relaxing location - so peaceful, beautiful view and exceptional lodges. We pre booked afternoon tea for the first time and it was the perfect start to our weekend - sitting in the sun enjoying a fantastic spread and taking in the stunning Lough view. We will be back ….. again!

We spent 2 nights in the Fieldfare Lodge and enjoyed every minute of it. The setting is beautiful, I could spend hours just watching the swan and the ducks on the Lough. The boat that comes with the lodge is a quirky little touch and watching my husband trying to get it out of the mud bank was hilarious!

I’m a wheelchair user and there was plenty space for me to move around the lodge, the bathroom is perfect for my needs with a lovely spacious level access shower, I asked for a shower chair which was in the cabin when we arrived. The bedroom is a little small, but I still managed to get in and around so no complaints really, the bed was really comfortable, I don’t usually sleep well when we go away, but I had 2 great nights sleep in that bed!

The hot tub was a nice touch, my husband used it, but as there’s no hoist I wasn’t able to access it, but it wasn’t a big issue for me, I enjoyed watching the lough and reading my book while he took a dip.

Overall we absolutely loved the Fieldfare Lodge, great communication from the team before we arrived and we won’t hesitate to book again…in fact, we’ve just booked a stay at Christmas!

We’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve stayed at The Tranquil Otter! The location of the lodges is superb - with uninterrupted views to the Lough. The lodge itself was spotless, really well equipped and the hot tub on the decking is the ideal spot to enjoy the views and the peace and quiet. We will definitely be back - again!

Fabulous place for relaxing and chilling out. A couple of observations, not criticism as they didn’t spoil my stay .In the kitchen it was a little dirty on oven casing and drainer rack felt tacky. One end of the sofa felt as if it’s falling apart, sunk in . The duvet was too small for the cover,ocd overload . The track to the lodge very rough and parking area was muddy. Unfortunately my neighbours were loud later on in the day, could hear them over the tv !
The welcome hamper was fantastic, hot tub just perfect and wildlife was great. Would recommend to all my friends.

the tranquil otter was the most perfect day to spend our early xmas day from building a fire to keeping warm in the jacuzzi and even many trips on the rowboat! this trip was exciting relaxing and adventurous and i couldn’t thank the team enough for everything! i couldn’t not fault anything!! we will defo be returning soon as we didn’t want to leave! thanks again team!

Our stay at the lodge was amazing we will definitely be back. The lodge was clean, we were given a good amount of logs for the fire, the hot tub is massive and we were gifted a welcome basket with a bottle of prosecco as it was booked for my girlfriends birthday. The area is dark which is ideal on clear nights, we spent one evening looking at the stars from the hot tub. We have stayed in a few lodges before this one but this one tops them all.

I recently left a review for Gadwall Lodge, where we spent the night of my birthday (12th May). On the 13th, we moved into Fieldfare for a further 4 nights. Having visited 77 times, this was one of the best weeks, weather-wise, we have ever had at the Tranquil Otter. We did very little on this trip other than enjoy the outside space with our retired greyhound, Sandy, read, watch the ducklings playing by the boat and enjoying the hot tub! Mo bbq’d 3 nights out of the 4, which was a REAL treat for me ❤️ We did drive to Port Carlisle and Bowness-on-Solway, which we had never visited before. We would highly recommend a visit - the scenery is beautiful and so peaceful. There are cows wandering along the roads, which were lovely to see, although Sandy wasn’t too sure! Fiona & the team at the Tranquil Otter are so helpful and friendly, and we really cannot praise this place highly enough. Will be back for New Year, if not before!
