Finchairn Cottage is a traditional shepherd’s cottage, secluded on a hillside and commanding truly spectacular views across Loch Awe.
Completely upgraded in 2022, this wonderfully remote cottage is set entirely on its own in an elevated position, looking down over the loch below. Access is via a mile-long farm track, making this a genuine escape from it all—peaceful, private and surrounded by open hill and wilderness.
You enter the property through a farm gate into a fenced hillside garden, with parking beside the cottage. The front door opens into a large conservatory, offering breathtaking views across the open hillside and down to Loch Awe. From here, double glass doors lead into the original cottage.
To the left is a spacious super-king or twin bedroom, along with a separate WC and wash basin. To the right, the sitting room centres around a large log burner set within the original inglenook fireplace, with comfortable seating arranged to enjoy the warmth. The sitting room also features a Freesat TV, DVD player, and Bluetooth speaker—perfect for playing music as loudly as you like, with no neighbours to disturb.
The cottage benefits from oil-fired central heating and high levels of insulation, ensuring it remains cosy and warm throughout the year. Due to its remote location there is no Wi-Fi, however there is a good EE 4G/5G mobile signal.
Leading off the sitting room is a corridor with a large shower room straight ahead, featuring a spacious walk-in Mira shower, wash basin, and WC. To the right is the well-equipped kitchen, with lovely views across the hillside and down to Loch Awe. The kitchen includes a microwave, ceramic hob, double oven, coffee machine, and fridge/freezer—everything needed to prepare meals for family or friends.
Upstairs are two further super-king or twin bedrooms, each finished with handmade bedheads, electric blankets, hairdryers, crisp white linen, fluffy towels, and feather duvets and pillows. Velux windows in both rooms look out towards the forestry behind the cottage.
Meals can be enjoyed in either the sitting room or the conservatory, both of which have tables and seating for six. The conservatory is particularly special, offering stunning views in all weather and also providing ample space for coats and boots. To the rear of the property is an external boiler and utility room, ideal as a drying room, with sink, washing machine, and tumble dryer.
Surrounded by wilderness, evenings can be spent watching red deer grazing around the cottage, with white tailed eagles and ospreys often seen overhead. The garden includes a picnic table and barbecue, perfect for relaxed outdoor dining.
Finchairn Cottage is available for short lets, though during July and August we aim to offer weekly stays from Friday to Friday—please do enquire. Arrival is from 5pm, allowing time for the cottage to be fully prepared for your stay.
Ederline Estate also offers a small selection of bikes, rowing boats, paddleboards, and kayaks for hire, along with excellent fly and coarse fishing. A warm welcome awaits.
