Spent a lovely few days at Walstone Bothy at the start of January 2025. This was a trip down memory lane for us. The cottage is cosy, comfortable, well-equipped and charming. We loved it so much, we may well return to stay there at some point in the future. Ideally situated in the Pentlands, it offers country living at its best, yet it is also within easy reach of Edinburgh. Thanks to Kate and John for a warm, friendly welcome.

Despite the weather we had a fabulous stay here - it was so comfortable indoors that we actually didn't mind spending more time keeping dry. Everything was very clean and all needs were catered for. There were 5 of us - 4 adults and a baby but the bothy could comfortably accommodate 3 couples (6 adults). The owners were extremely welcoming and able to offer advice. Edinburgh is only 12 miles away but road is quite slow so took us 30 minutes to get there - this wasn't a problem.

From the very outset, we had excellent communication with the owners of Walstone Bothy who always responded promptly and helpfully to questions, offering useful local information and advice. Once in situ, we found the accommodation to be very comfortable and spacious, extremely well-equipped with generous provision also of little extras which were much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt truly welcomed. Warm thanks!

The Walstone Bothy receives our highest recommendation! Since I had never been to Scotland before, I wasn't sure what to expect when we made the long journey from Texas...but Kate and John made us feel so very welcome, and the Bothy is both spacious and quite comfortable. So peaceful and quiet in the midst of the Scottish countryside...and yet not far from every convenience, including Tesco, Boots, and the park & ride into Edinburgh. We enjoyed our private walk with the sheep in nearby lovely Ninemileburn on one day, and on others we made the easy trip into Edinburgh to see the sights there. Our friends from London joined us for part of our holiday, and they, too, found the Bothy to be an exceedingly pleasant place to stay, including for their little three-year-old son.
Even the weather was spectacular...beautiful sunrises and sunsets...and a gorgeous mix of fog, mist, rain, blue skies, sunshine, & ever-changing clouds...and all the fall colors in the leaves of bronze, copper, and gold are not to be missed.
Our thanks to Kate and John, for helping to make our Scotland holiday a dream come true.

Ein wunderbarer Familienurlaub bei Kate und John vom Walstone Bothy. Sehr Nette Vermieter, eine tolle Location und liebevoll eingerichtet. Klasse ist auch die optimale Lage mit guter Verkehrsanbindung. Wir kommen wieder!

First class from start to finish.
Communications from Kate were prompt and helpful with details about the house, check-in process and lots of ideas for places to visit.
Accommodation is excellent, lots of lovely touches like toiletries, store cupboard items and a wonderful welcome basket. All the bed linen, towels, etc were of a high quality.
Nice sheltered outdoor area with plenty of seating, table and bbq.
The Bothy will comfortably accommodate six adults unlike so many other rentals thst have insufficient seating. There is a generous dinning table, two sofas and an armchair.
Great location The Bothy is at the foot of the Pentland Hills which provide great walks, Edinburgh and Glasgow under an hours drive. Plenty of amenities within 10 mins drive in Penicuik.
Kate and John were on hand for any queries and are great hosts.
Would highly recommend.

Really loved staying here. Communal space much bigger than appeared in photos.
Owners very helpful even with last minute requests.
Beds very comfortable, kitchen excellent. Wonderful dinning room table easily coped with 7.
Good access to Pentland Hills and a load of good walks nearby.
Went with a mixed age group 8 year old , 17, 19, 15. With parents. All very happy.
