Very comfortable high end cottage with glorious views and walks straight from the door. Very useful drying room, although we enjoyed fine weather most of the time. Very well appointed, and our dogs enjoyed it too.
Located a short distance down a hardcore track most cars should manage without any trouble, and we were rewarded with birdsong all around (lots of kites and willow warblers), bleating of sheep and lambs, and stunning views - all so peaceful.
Immaculately clean and very well appointed with great showers, wood burner with logs supplied, and super comfortable beds.
Will be returning soon!

Culdoach is well appointed for a comfortable stay, whatever the weather. The information about the property and area was comprehensive and easy to read. We fell in love with the Loch Arthur farm-shop and cafe and yes the chocolate orange cake is lovely as is the lemon and thyme cake. Sitting outside under the covered porch you see for miles and are surrounded by nature - house martins, red squirrel, pheasants, red kites and more - at night the skies are incredible. My husband has mobility issues and travelling safely through the estate on his Tramper, experiencing nature and the wonderful views was liberating. Everyone we met or had contact with was friendly and welcoming. Would we return, we very much hope to.

We stayed three weeks and we had a magical time. The view from Culdoach is magnificent and the cottage itself is wonderful. It is warm and cosy and everything, especially the beds and bedding of very high quality. Wifi was perfect. The surroundings are wonderful, walks from the doorstep. Castle Douglas is 15 mins away for the supermarket etc. Fish and chips from Moore's was our favourite. Really the only thing missing were a set of oven gloves. The team at Barwhillanty is very friendly. We would highly recommend this property and we would stay here again without any hesitation.

A beautifully equipped cottage in a very peaceful setting. The bed was very comfortable. Everything you could need in a cottage is provided. First rate.
On the first morning we had breakfast outside and watched a roe buck, a hare, lots of red kites and the swallows were flying around as they started to look for nests. Idyllic.

Had a wonderful time at the cottage, sat outside as much as possible with coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening just enjoying the views, watching the pheasants and myriad of other birds and enjoying the absolute peace and quiet. Wood burner a joy in the evenings too and everything about the cottage was very well equipped, comfy and cosy to a high standard. Loved the upstairs bathroom too and Sheena could not have been more helpful checking in via message on our arrival and more.

We had a lovely stay in the cottage which has very good views. The beds were very comfortable and the showers very powerful. The lounge was a very cosy place to come back to at the end of the day. Wi-Fi for such a remote location was excellent.

Our only suggestions for improvement would be that there needs to be an empty cupboard for food storage as food had to be placed on the work surface and that a cottage for 6 needs a bigger toaster. The existing one only took 2 slices.

The cottage seems to be dog free or not depending on who you book it with!

Access is fine in an SUV but perhaps not in a sports car as the last bit of track is very rough

We booked a last minute getaway here at Culdoach. We were never going to be disappointed with this house and location as we had visited here before at Easter this year. We just love the tranquility here and the house is absolutely fabulous and fantastic. Lovely weather as well to compliment the break. Just what we needed. Can’t wait to return again soon. Special thanks to Sheena who helped to arrange the stay last minute, you are a star xx

Culdoach is a beautifully appointed house with gorgeous views. There is a sense of remoteness despite being only 15 minutes from Castle Douglas and it is well located for a variety of days out. A super stay.

On arrival we found a beautiful cottage in an immaculate condition. The surroundings of this cottage were amazing. It was a very a peaceful location and we admired the sheep and pheasants. The property was very well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here very much and did not want to leave. You can easily walk around the estate without worrying about traffic. We booked a yoga session during our stay here and it was brilliant. We will be returning.

We really enjoyed our stay in DandG county not shop.
A perfect spot for exploring the the surrounding area of Loch Ken the coast and the forest park.
Plus the added bonus of walks round the estate from the front door and good dry fly fishing on the estate loch
The cottage garden although becoming slightly overgrown was a delight with such an array of plants
Culdoach was one of the best equipped and comfortable cottages at which we have stayed.
Any small hiccups with the tv and Wi-Fi were quickly resolved and we always felt there was a friendly voice on the other end of the phone if needed.

Few small things which would make the stay even better
1 a shelf for toiletries in the downstairs bathroom
2 a mirror in the downstairs bedroom
3 photo copies of the estate maps to take with when waking

But altogether a lovely stay and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Such a lovely wee cottage to spend a relaxing few days with friends and family. The views over the countryside are gorgeous and it's a really peaceful spot. Really nicely decorated and the showers/bath tub were great! Will definitely come again.

Lovely accommodation, which as just as well given the floods during our stay. The owners were always accommodating and extremely helpful when our car broke down! We can't thank them enough.

Just 10 minutes walk away from our home, this was the perfect location for some of my family members to stay for a special family get together weekend.

Culdoach is a lovely cottage, clean and beautifully situated with a pretty garden and very comfortable beds!

As the cottage sleeps 6, it seems strange that there are only 4 chairs at the dining table. 2 more chairs would have been appreciated. Also, the uppermost handle on the upstairs shower is loose and kept falling off.

My sister and brother in law both work for the NHS and pointed out that the NHS 24 number given should be changed to 111 and suggest that the local GP surgery names and numbers are also provided. Another suggestion is that, due to the cottage’s lovely isolated location, a grid ref (NX714706?)and directions that can be read out verbatim could be provided in case of a medical emergency.

These are just suggestions that may help. A wonderful weekend was had by all and the cottage was a fantastic place to stay. Thank you!

Enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing break at Culdoach. The cottage has been newly renovated and is modern & stylish but cosy. It is in a very rural location, with stunning views and no other properties nearby so lovely and quiet. The long gravel track down to it is easy to drive along with a normal car. There is lots to do in the area. We enjoyed kayaking on Loch Ken from the Galloway Activity Centre just 10mins drive away and mountain biking at Drumlanrig Castle, about an hour away. There are lovely beaches and costal walks less than an hour away. We had 3 beach days; the children even swam in the sea! Unfortunately the wifi at the cottage has not yet been connected, which we didn’t discover until after our arrival, and so the digital tv (presumably requiring wifi) would also not work. It was actually rather nice to have a mostly tech-free week! We were blessed with warm weather and enjoyed eating at the outside table. The cottage is mostly well equipped, there was even a cake tin, but no bread knife, measuring jug or hairdryer. The inside table only has 4 seats so we had to use 2 of the metal garden chairs when we are indoors. The bathrooms and kitchen were spotlessly clean. We have already booked to return next year!

Was looking for somewhere to get away from it all and found it. Secluded , with no one nearby. A totally chilled few days . Didn't get a chance to explore around the estate as it was unbelievably hot weather but sure it would be worthwhile.
