Lovely house tastefully decorated and furnished. Very comfortable with mod cons. Plenty for children to do with a supply of games.
The only thing I would recommend is having a four-wheel drive vehicle for access to property. Our party had one four-wheel drive vehicle and one standard saloon vehicle, the latter of which went down a big pothole which obviously was not visible, (it was rainy and dark on our arrival). Luckily no apparent damage was sustained but it shook the occupants up! I should mention that this was the road up to the turning before the estate. Not sure if it was a council road.

Set on the Barwhillanty estate, this house is located down a track, although easy enough for cars to access. Amazing scenery and views from the house and gardens, with regular sightings of red kites, and great facilities overall. Plenty of space in the rooms with good facilities. Kitchen was almost too warm with the Aga! Lovely sized fridge freezer.

Only real niggle was that WiFi was patchy, the broadband router is showing its age sadly, and some rooms at the other end of the house had no coverage.

We were a party of nine with ages ranging from 70 to 6 years and two small dogs. The house was spacious and well equipped for such numbers. The Aga was easy to cook with but made for a very hot kitchen that meant the back door was left open most of the day and that lead to an unfenced area so dog owners should be mindful if dogs are not well behaved and reliable. The rear garden is fenced though a determined dog could walk through a break in one corner.
The children loved being outside with the freedom to roam and could easily find the deer herd. The telescope made for some interesting lunar views and the binoculars were also a bonus. There were great views in every direction. There are great beaches around for those willing to drive 40 minutes+ and food shopping meant trips to Castle Douglas.
All in all a lovely stay in a characterful but practical house.

We gathered our family for our annual holiday at your beautiful farmhouse. We were made to feel welcome with all our needs catered for. Every thing in the house was of the highest quality and I felt that our needs were paramount over and profit and convenience. We were well looked after and communication was excellent.
Thank you and even the weather was better than the dismal forecast.

First of all a huge thank you to the owners for being so accommodating with fur family members ! We took our Maine Coon cat. There was no fuss about a cat being permitted , no extra fees or hidden charges / deposits for pets. This is very refreshing and one of the reasons we booked this accommodation. Our cat is very much part of our family. As for the humans, there was six of us. Three generations. We loved everything about the property and its location. Peaceful and surrounded by amazing wildlife. Including Red Kites, Hares and Bats, these were all highlights for us. It was especially pleasing to see the Hares, such beautiful animals.
Back to the house, it very clean and comfortable. Nice and warm too. The views are glorious, especially from the main bathroom , master bedroom, landing windows , living room …… As well as looking for pet friendly accommodation, an important criteria for us was a games room. The pool table was very well used by all three generations of the family and kept the 17 YO member of the group entertained.
Away from the house, worth mentioning are we particularly enjoyed a day out to Kirkcudbright and had good food at the Olive Tree.
If you’re thinking of booking don’t hesitate. We booked through the estates website and found it an easy process and any questions were answered very swiftly.
I think you can tell by reading our review we would love to go back to the house at some point and would definitely recommend it .

Blairinnie is a very fine house on a beautiful 5,000 acre estate. You have extensive rights to 'wander' around the estate, which provides a variety of interesting habitats and environments. The house itself is located up a 1km rather bumpy track with cattle grids, one of which was partially broken/loose when we were there, which unfortunately resulted in a puncture at one stage. No problem if you have a 4x4 though. To a large extent everything was very nicely presented. One exception though was the 'games room' with pool table. The table had seen better days, and it is in fact impossible, given the size of the room to actually play on the table. I understand plans are afoot to change the use of this room to a boot room, but as a games room it is incorrectly described. The 4 teenage boys in our group were a little disappointed by this.
We also had a few issues with the Wifi, which had recently been upgraded to cable, so I think these are likely to be teething troubles only, and we also couldn't get any TV (Freeview) reception, but a rapid response TV man cam and fitted a new aerial and we were good to go. It's a very pretty part of Scotland - not dramatic like the Western Highlands a 200 miles or so to the North, but Galloway Forest Park is wild in its own way, the hills are often heavily forested, and the night skies are pitch black. Lots to do and see, particularly if you like walking, cycling, bird watching or just getting away from the madding crowd

This was our third stay at Blairinnie, so we probably like it!

The house is wonderful, spacious, beautifully presented and really well equipped. Its location is wonderful at the end of a 1km drive and set in the most beautiful landscape with 360 degree stunning views. The area is teeming with wildlife going about their daily routines, so there is always something to watch.

There is so much to do in the area, while retaining its tranquillity, the absolute silence is deafening.

A very special place with very special and happy memories. We will return next next year.

We had a very pleasant stay at Blairinnie. There were 6 adults, 3 children (10, 9 & 7) and we all had a fabulous time. The weather was beautiful and we loved playing cricket in the courtyard! Fortunately we didn’t need to contact anyone during our stay but we knew that there was someone available should we need them. Only suggestion is that shorter cues be available for the children as they were unable to use the ones provided safely.

This lovely house in a stunning setting provided the perfect venue for a fun stay with friends on the Barwhillanty Estate. Every detail had been thought of and the house is warm and cosy and very well equipped, with tasteful decor, excellent bathrooms and kitchen, and comfy beds! We had a most wonderful stay, and will definitely be back again to enjoy the house and those beautiful views.

Guests for our wedding stayed at Blairinnie farmhouse and were delighted with their accommodation. They said the following:
The farmhouse interiors were beautifully designed and our stay was incredibly comfortable. The farmhouse was incredibly clean and tidy when we arrived and the communication from the team at Barwhillanty was second to none to ensure that our stay was comfortable and relaxing. The location is perfect for a stay in Galloway countryside, with lots of local recommendations of places to visit, eat or see. Customer service was excellent and we would highly recommend this beautiful farmhouse stay to anyone visiting Galloway. We will be back!

This was our 3rd holiday at Blairinnie, and we have already booked for next year - that probably says it all! It is a perfect house for family and friends to gather, party and enjoy the wonderful options on your doorstep.

It is within easy access for all types of watersports on Loch Ken. There are great walks and bike riding as well as open water swimming, all accessible from the doorstep. The area is teeming with wildlife, so there is always something to watch, particularly the red kites and buzzards circling above. But probably most striking is the absolute silence that falls at around dusk.

The house is spacious and well equipped, and beautifully decorated - everything you need for a wonderful holiday, you just need to bring your family and friends.

We really enjoyed our holiday at Blairinnie. The kitchen was a good size for all the family and the utility room was a bonus.
The garden was great for the children's games of football and rounders and the estate is lovely with good walks.
There were a couple of problems which can be easily solved
Galloway is a beautiful part of Scotland and there are plenty of activities to keep the whole family happy

We had the most amazing time at Blairinnie to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The house was spotless and cosy. Everyone slept really well. The showers are also amazing.
The kitchen was the perfect size for a gathering and the Aga was a real treat.
Millie our dog also had the best time exploring the grounds and seems a bit sad now she’s back to our smaller garden.
Would also recommend Mr Pook’s Kitchen for food.

We had a fantastic stay at Blairinnie. The house was perfect for a family get together. Very well equipped for a large gathering, although it would benefit from a couple of extra teaspoons!
The showers were very powerful and the views from the rooms were great.
The location was great for us, close to local amenities and a good selection of walks on the estate.
Looking forward to visiting again!

We recently stayed for 4 days and honestly wish we could have stayed for longer. 4 days just weren’t enough. The cottage was absolutely gorgeous. Comfy beds, stunning views, beautiful walks, gorgeous bath rooms, log burning fire, 10 minute drive to castle Douglas and so much more. The people we meant were so welcoming and friendly, we were treated like we’d know them for ever, they couldn’t have been any more accommodating. Even the weather was perfect for us, Being able to fly our gos hawks and golden eagle in such a beautiful place was a privilege and we can’t wait to come again.

Comfortable setting in rural Galloway with unrestricted views. Large area of cut grass with patio. Safe place for families. Ample parking. 15 minutes drive to local supermarkets.
Easy access to walks on the estate and around Loch Ken, or travel further afield to the beach, glens, mountains, towns and other places of interest. Local wildlife on the doorstep such as birds of prey hunting, swallows gathering to migrate, and herds of deer and pheasants. Clear views of the night sky with no light pollution

Fantastic remote location for our annual week in Scotland. House was fabulous, nothing was too much trouble. Owner communication was great but not intrusive. Only feedback would be there were no hairdryers ( teenage girls ! ) so just need to bring your own! Apart from that small thing the house and facilities were perfect for a great family holiday. Cooked some lovely meals and had rainy jigsaw days. Perfect walks in lovely grounds around the estate. We hope to return.

We had an amazing time at Blairinnie. Very comfortable house with all amenities required for a super stay. Lovely warm house with an Aga which was very homely and cooked our food beautifully with the addition of an extra cooker too! Lovely hot power showers ! Nicely decorated throughout!
The Wildlife’s exceptional with herds of Deer, Stags,, Kites, Eagles, Grouse, and plenty of sheep! The Venison was superb!
Beaches, Parks very close by which was great for the children.
Staff at Blairinnie are very welcoming and courteous with a can do attitude for any extra requirements to make your stay an individual memorable occasion . Highly recommended!
