If you are looking for an exceptional, unique, and extremely comfortable cottage for a retreat or a base from which to explore the Islands of Harris and Lewis, look no further, this is it! Bays Blackhouse is exactly like the photos on their website. It is a gorgeously appointed home for one or two with no detail or comfort unaddressed. While touring Lewis did take a bit of driving, after covering both islands fairly well, we were very happy we chose to stay there, on Harris. The remote location provides privacy and a very peaceful place to experience the majesty of the bays on Harris. Paul and Annalie are such thoughtful and generous hosts, providing clear and thorough information needed through a Bays Blackhouse app, and a welcome pack to kickstart ones stay with their homemade delicacies. Bays Blackhouse is exquisite and we are grateful we had the opportunity to meet them and spend a week in their magical cottage.

Absolutely amazing place to stay. Up front communication excellent. A very warm and personal welcome on our arrival with a great pack of goodies.
Property is lovely in all respects. We especially loved the location with daily sightings of otters and eagles a bonus.
The quality of all fixtures and fittings is very high and the cottage has a modern, light and airy feel with plenty of space.
We’d go back in a heartbeat.

We can’t say enough about Bay’s Blackhouse. The property is comfortable and perfect for two. It has been thoughtfully designed to fit in to the surroundings while enhancing privacy and beautiful views. The hosts Paul and Annalie were most helpful and considerate. They provided delicious homemade goods, as well as pantry basics, to help us settle in for our visit. We loved the area, the house, the cleanliness, comfort, and location. Bays Blackhouse is a simply outstanding property on an island where unfortunately many self-catering offerings can be disappointing. The property is absolutely immaculately presented and maintained and generates a real feeling of luxuriousness from the outset. It is beautifully positioned with a stunning outlook which we never tired of. Even though it feels secluded, and is very quiet, it is a very easy drive to Tarbet and the main road running the length of the island. The owners, who live nearby, were delightful to deal with. I cannot recommend Bays Blackhouse enough, staying there was a superb experience from start to finish and it was very hard to leave.

My husband and I stayed at the Bays Blackhouse during a photography trip we made on Isle of Harris. We were absolutely delighted with the exquisitely designed and equipped property and the warm hospitality with which we were received. The concept of building a 'modern blackhouse' amidst the ruins of an historical blackhouse works very well. The inside is very comfortable and has all the amenities one could wish for during a holiday stay. We thoroughly loved this gem of an accommodation and whenever we return to Harris hope to stay again at this property.

This was my first time visiting the Isle of Harris and I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay.
Bays Blackhouse stands alone on a hillside not far from the water, offering a place of quiet and seclusion. It is a modern, clean and well-equipped home with fantastic views across the Isle from the small courtyard area. Although the Blackhouse has underfloor heating, a highlight of mine was lighting the fire each morning - the house quickly heats up so you can enjoy the 34 rain showers that inevitably arrive that day, in comfort.
Paul & Annalie are incredibly friendly and warm hosts. Paul greeted me upon my arrival with home-baked brownies and bread, whisky-infused marmalade, and whisky-infused whisky - I would have smuggled it all home, but there was little left by the time my stay ended.
Renting a car is a must on the island, and from the Blackhouse you can visit the local towns, bars and restaurants easily. Paul had given me plenty of recommendations of food places to try out ensuring the next month will be spent dieting.
Overall - I strongly recommend Bays Blackhouse to anyone looking to get away from it all.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in a unique holiday cottage with every luxury you could need. Stunning view and property with friendly hosts on hand if needed.
A wonderful start to our stay with a warm welcome from Annalie who kindly allowed us a very early entry as we were already staying nearby. We were quite overwhelmed by the generosity in everything provided for us. The delicious home baked brownies, ( impressed by contact to select baking preferences) lovely large loaf of freshly baked bread, gin, whisky, coffee, tea, milk, butter - everything beautifully presented. The Blackhouse is stylish, immaculate, extremely comfortable, warm, efficient under floor heating, plus logs for burner, quality bedding, towels, toiletries etc, all designed with ease of use and to ensure a memorable stay for guests. From the moment of our arrival we felt so at home, the little personal touches from Annalie and Paul made us feel really welcome. The blackhouse is beautiful and very comfortable, fully equipped with all we needed for our time there but we also felt if there was anything we needed we could happily ask. Their local knowledge and the app we were sent meant we found lots to do and great places to visit including stunning beaches and fantastic places to eat. Cannot recommend highly enough and we will definitely be visiting again.

Bays Blackhouse is an architecturally sensitive building which makes excellent use of the Blackhouse that once stood on the site. Inside it is modern, well equipped and comfortable. The views over the sea loch are stunning. As a location it is quiet and peaceful. Whilst being away from it all, Tarbert, the distillery, the stunning beaches and Leverburgh are only a short drive. There are several walks from the property; the walk across to the west coast is highly recommended. Paul and Annalie are great hosts; really helpful, good people who know the island. The brownie fudge cake, bread, marmalade, whisky and gin were most welcome when we arrived.

We had a brilliant 6 night stay at Bays Blackhouse – we received a warm welcome to the property which had everything we needed for our stay. Located in a quiet village with beautiful views over the bay, the property is nestled into the ruin of a former blackhouse creating an incredibly warm and comfortable space. We enjoyed many evenings by the log burner after days out exploring the island (walks in the lunar-like rocky east, a dip in the sea at the beautiful beaches of the west coast, spotting golden eagles, and visiting the stone circles and blackhouses of Lewis). Bays Blackhouse was a great base and we hope to be back again!

What a wonderful place - from the first interaction of booking, being available for a late arrival as well as the overall facilities and ambience I cannot praise this superb bolt hole enough. Everything needed was there with a design aesthetic that is so easy to feel at home the minute one walks in the door. The location on the more rugged east side of the island is also a plus, giving that other world experience that we all look for.
I know the will be a return booking as the only downside is it was not long enough !

We loved staying in Bays Blackhouse - for the warm welcome by Annilee and Paul; the beautifully designed, comfortable, quality interiors; for all the thoughtfully added tasteful touches (loved the sheepskin rugs beside the bed) and for the home made treats, cake, bread, whisky marmalade :-) The views from the black house windows of the Rocky hills and loch close by are stunning. It rained on and off during our stay but the cottage was warm, cosy and delightfully inviting to stay in. We want to be back there, it was perfect, thank you.

Paul and Annalie have created a wonderful haven in the Bays area of Harris. The location is fantastic - overlooking a very scenic sea loch while being close to Tarbert and also the amazing beaches of the west coast of Harris. The property is ideal for a couple and is very well appointed. The modern design of the Blackhouse provides a minimalist aesthetic, but not at the expense of comfort or cosiness.
Paul and Annalie could not have been more helpful in responding to our questions when booking the property and in offering tips on things to do and places to eat in the local area.
