A lovely county castle surrounded by Belted Galloway cattle and sheep. The castle grounds have a fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. Tobias is truly a wonderful gentleman and host. He prepared an amazing breakfast both mornings which consisted of local flavors ( haggis, blood pudding, potato cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage). Tobias gave us a tour of the chapel and grand hall with interesting history. Baron James prepared a formal dinner which was also delicious. We are Maxwell descendants by DNA and name so the link to this castle is intriguing.

Wow what a beautiful experience we had in the Lady Maxwell room and at Buittle castle. From start to finish our break was so relaxed, peaceful and charming. Tobias is a calm, empathic and tuned in host. I am neurodivergent and often struggle with intimate settings but Tobias was present when he needed to be and stepped back at the right moment. The breakfast was perfection. After this stay I would definitely return and try the private dining experience too.
