We stay in the Tower every year because it is in the perfect situation for us, riding and walking. The owners are wonderfully hospitable and helpful and we always enjoy our holiday there immensely.

Great place, but needs some serious modernising and upgrading for the price. That is all I want or need to say.

We have been staying at the Tower for many years and love the location, the helpfulness of the owners and the friendliness with which we are welcomed. Fresh flowers in the rooms and wine in the fridge. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday but not for young children or elderly people as there steep stairs.

The Tower is a lovely unique house that is very cosy especially when you light the log burner. The view across to Hesan island and the solway firth is spectacular at sunrise. Lots of local places to visit including Red Haven Beach just across the water and lots of walks which was ideal for taking our dogs on.
Our hosts were lovely and made us very welcome.

My partner and I were booked to stay at The Tower over the New Year period. Sadly do to a family medical emergency we were forced to cancel so we are unable to comment on the accommodation itself. We sort to rearrange our booking but were told that it would not be possible an completely free alternative week. A discount (of approximately one third) was offered. We subsequently did find the cancellation policy on the website but not on the booking forms. Both our other planned bookings for our holiday immediately cancelled all charges.

It is clearly a reminder to check out the booking cancellation terms.

In order for the review to be submitted we have ticked a non committal 3 for each category above but this is not meant to reflect any actual experience

Lovely qaint tower. Great walks and places to visit. Local post office does brilliant take away meals. Just to be aware the kitchen is on the ground floor and the toilet is on the top floor so lots of winding stairs to get to either. Plan your toilet trips apart from that great place.

This is our 2nd stay at the Tower this year.

Facilities & location are perfect -shoreline on other side of adjacent road - went to sleep with the sound of waves.

Brought our own BBQ as property did not have one & enjoyed cooking in the sheltered garden.

Sue & Pete + the family are excellent hosts & nothing too much to supply. They have free range eggs & veg from their garden

Went riding with Sue for 2hrs & the best riding I have had in Scotland. Great company & horses

Dined in Balcary Bay Hotel (twice) - Service & food super. Ignore reviews that say different some people are never happy.

Did try the Steamboat, but needed to book - will try again.

Experience so good we hope to return again in Nov with family from USA.

Fabulous week - fine weather allowed us to spend lots of time on the (deserted) beach and walking on the clifftops. Comfy bed with fab view, cosy living room with log-burner. Kitchen was challenging (damp, mould, some chipped mugs). Fortunately we could just use it to boil the kettle. We ordered takeaway meals from the excellent local shop. This was outweighed by the quirky historic property, idyllic location and proximity to great walking.

The Tower is a very imposing building with its breathtaking view of the Solway Firth. It is tastefully furnished, well equipped, very cosy with a log fire in the lounge. We had a fantastic week , doing various things like walking, cycling, fishing, dining at the Balgarry Bay Hotel which is within walking distance. My partner enjoyed his horse riding at Auchencairn House and we both had the best night sleep with the sea air. The village itself has a well stocked shop with various local produce and we were even introduced to a local fisherman for your freshly caught sea bass. If you like antiques, the showroom is right on your door step, The local people are very friendly and courteous. We would like to say a big thank you to the host Poppy for her excellent customer service. We will definitely go back to the Tower.

We had a wonderful break. Fantastic location.. Stunning views from the main bedroom. Kitchen and Garden were ideal for our dog and we enjoyed relaxing in front of the log fire in the evening.

Tower Lodge is a magical place to stay apart from all the lovely home comforts it is cosy and private. The shore road which is tree lined and lush is a beautiful walk that follows directly along the Solway Firth, we were lucky enough to see the timid Red Squirrels. The beach that is directly opposite the Tower feels like a private beach, we hardly saw a soul and the scenery and peace is amazing, we literally sat a whole day there looking at the beauty, the view is breathtaking and I have never known peace like it, just birdsong and water lapping, its a place you can really switch off.
The local people are so friendly and helpful and the local shop is well stocked and sell the most beautiful homemade produce, we enjoyed daily homemade soup, rolls, cakes and savouries all at a very reasonable price, everyone seems to value this beautiful spot and sustainability is important to them.
The highlight of our stay was the kindness of Piet, Sue and Poppy who invited us to walk to Heston Island to bring the sheep back for winter grazing, we were lucky to be there at the right time and the tide was just right for this wonderful experience. We cannot thank them all enough for our Magical and Memorable stay, Thank you we will return again soon and many more times.
