Although all lodges are furnished and laid out identically the images are representational as each lodge is positioned differently on site.

The lodge itself was nice, but was very tired looking in places, and seeing as it's described as "luxury" I would have expected it to be in better condition.

We booked a week in Clifton Lodge as a way to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary, the site promised us luxury.

While we were able to out the shortfalls aside, upkeep of the property and cleanliness lets it down.

The first thing that greets you is a very strong musky (bad) smell. We thought that it might reduce over time, it didn't, we bought air fresheners to help, with little impact.

The dishwasher was still full of water and pasta from a previous guest. The coffee machine had not been emptied and we found chocolate from a previous guest in the sofa.

The vinyl laminate on the floors and walls is chipping at the edges and the bathrooms could deal with resealing the joints which are mouldy.

The wifi was unusable unless we were sat in our car. The technology was miswired taking us 2 days to fix.

Only one sachet of instant coffee was provided, while I recognise it's self catering you expect at least enough for each person to have one drink on their first morning.

Kitchen equipment is shabby buy usable. The fridge is effective though.

The grounds are lovely, the hot tub did everything you expect and the shower is good quality. Didn't have a bath but from what I can see neither the tv in the bath nor the spare room work.

The restaurant was very nice, check in easy.

I naively thought I might be able to go on a dog walk on foot from the grounds but the winding roads and lack of pavements meant that didn't feel safe for the dog, but that's not the venues fault.

Overall we ensured we had a good stay and made the most of being a long way from work, and the lack of wifi prevented us even contemplating logging in, but it wasn't the luxury feel advertised by far. It could be with better upkeep and facilities though.

We did see plenty of reviews before we booked stating the lodges were tired and in need of freshening up, however, given we have 2 dogs we don’t mind a few scuffs or marks etc.

That said we were disappointed given many of the comments calling out damage etc were some time ago and for a ‘luxury’ accommodation I would expect the most significant items to have been at least looked into.

Most of my frustrations were cosmetic but some went beyond that. I’d point out that we didn’t raise these with the staff because, in all honestly what’s the point? They are not going to fix loose tiles and rip up a whole deck, plus why would I want to disrupt a family holiday having work done in my accommodation!

My main disappointment was the state of the deck area around the lodge. I was in need of replacement, if we had small children with us, I would have been more worried. The deck panels were not flush with one another so definite trip hazards and sharp edges. The veranda was wobbly and I would not want to lean against for too long. The canopy above the door was rotten and falling apart, it’s just messy!

Inside as I say it was scruffy but it was ok for our purpose, there was clearly water damaged flooring and the laminate was in poor condition and coming apart. It was actually several different finishes pushed together where they had tried to fix it, not luxury.

The toilet in the en-suite was lose from the wall (this had been mentioned by other guests some time ago), shaver socket loose.

The main internal problem was the states of the blinds. Most were broken and a couple were missing. Not luxury.

Whilst it didn’t impact our holiday too much, it was just disappointing to see that so many other guests had called out the same issues months and months earlier and yet the resort had made no attempt to fix them.

It’s not luxury accommodation, it’s not even close.

Plenty of work to be done to be put into that category.

Unfortunately, we won’t be revisiting anytime soon.

We stayed with our two young children in August and had a lovely stay, really peaceful location and the kids especially like being on the lake and seeing the ducks come up to the lodge every morning! The lodge was well equipped and had everything we needed, bathrooms were immaculate and well presented, again the kids loved the tv in the bathroom! we did feel though that overall the lodge was a bit shabby and definitely needs updating in places. Some of the interior doors were peeling, the floorboards were very worn in places, the decking outside the front entrance was wobbly and looked like it needed fixing down. There were a few stains on the couch and holes in the cushions, things that I feel should have been sorted given the price we paid and that the accommodation was marked as luxury! The staff were all friendly but they did seem to be lacking in experience, we only went to the onsite restaurant one night having rang beforehand to check it was child friendly with kids menus etc. When we arrived, we were given main menus only. We have two children under 6 so I had to ask if we could have a children's menu and the young girl serving said 'oh its pretty much whats on the small plates on the main menu but I can print one off if you want'! When the menu came it was in fact nothing like the main menu!! Overall we were happy with our stay but probably wouldn't return due to the price point not really matching the standard of the accommodation.

We enjoyed our stay at Kentisbury Grange. Staff/customer service excellent. Loved the beautiful grounds. Peaceful setting. Very well maintained. Ideal location for exploring local beaches and seaside towns. The accommodation was comfortable and spacious, and had good facilities. Comfy beds, decent bath/ shower. However, I wouldn't describe it as luxury. It was very tired and needed alot of upgrades/maintenance. Doors worn, handles not fixed, (internally, externally) flooring not great. Shower sealant grubby, and filter not fixed. Furniture heavily stained. Outside the decking needs urgent attention and is a potential trip hazard. The views across the pond are beautiful. It would have been helpful to have a tea towel. The welcome pack was disappointing, but possibly because it doesn't fit with the luxury theme. Finally, the accommodation photos do not reflect the property's current condition, so misleading. While I wouldn't recommend this property, I would recommend Kentisbury Grange.

Perfect long weekend away, it can be hard to find a location that can accommodate pets but Kentisbury Grange couldn't have been more accommodating, even providing a pet bed. The lodge is spacious with stunning views and only a short drive to the national park and beaches, the hot tub on the terrace was a great bonus. The staff at the restaurant were super friendly and helpful, even providing recommendations on where to visit during our stay. The lodge would benefit from a slight update as there were a couple of faulty items, but nothing that impacted our stay. Highly recommend and would stay again.

Lodge 11 was in a lovely location and very well equipped with spacious bedrooms and comfortable lounge it was larger than I expected unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to use the hot tub. I would definitely recommend this accommodation however I cannot say the same for the restaurant we had Sunday lunch which was very disappointing the meat, vegetables and Yorkshire puddings we’re cold! a very bland meal.

We booked one of these beautiful lodges for a 4 night break and were blown away. What a wonderful spot...quiet, tranquil. Each lodge has a lovely outlook. Ours looked over a lake and we spent hours watching swallows dip onto the water and fly off again and ducks with their chicks enjoying the peace. It was such a restful break. The Coach House restaurant within the grounds does excellent locally sourced food and drink and there is also a fantastic hotel in the original Gentlemen's Residence that dates back to 1894. We took our dog with us and she was welcome in all areas. Highly ecommend Kentisbury Grange as a relaxing getaway. In a fantastic location near to Leyton, Lynmouth, Woolacomb and Barnstaple all a short drive away.

The lodge is set in beautiful grounds and looking out over a well kept lake with goldfish and coy carp in. The lodge was amazing and very spacious. The hot tub was ready on arrival and was a joy. My only negative is the roads to the lodge and surrounding areas were a bit scary as we were driving through the hills, but the scenery is breath taking. I highly recommend this place, very peaceful and relaxing.

We stayed for 5 days (march) the location is amazing along with the set up. Yes the lodges are absolutely beautiful but could do with a bit of updating regarding worm floors and cupboard edges. The hot tub was beautiful. The kitchen is full of top (smeg) gadgets, which took a while to get used too ... a little memo regarding the oven - you have to set the timer for it to heat up. You get lovely little welcome pack for the kitchen. Although I would maybe suggest the washing machine should be cleaned every other week as it was a bit smelly. Bit it didn't effect my clothes once they were washed. It really was a lovely stay.
I also spoke to the lady about the worn floors and she said it was on the to do list for all lodges, although they are dog friendly so you do expect a but of wear and tear. Lovely touch of a dog bed too, although our dog didn't use it, as he prefers to snuggle with us as we took our own covers for the sofa.

Would definitely recommend. All the staff here are so lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The food in the restaurant was delicious and good value for money.
The lodges are very nice and modern. Bed super comfy. If I had to pick one negative it would be the sofa was a bit dirty but that would not stop us from returning. Overall we loved it here.

The location is beautiful and has breathtaking views of the countryside. The lodge was very nice, had all the things you need for a home away from home. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the customer service was exceptional. Had dinner at The Coach House restaurant and the food was amazing, would recommend anyone to try it. Definitely will be staying there again :-)

Each lodge is situated on the superb grounds of Kentisbury Grange . The lodges are spacious , adequately equipped and the hot tub a great addition. Staff very friendly and helpful . Great space for a relaxing break .

We really enjoyed the stay. The staff were really helpful and so friendly! The lodge itself was a really lovely, but it wasn’t cleaned to the standard I’d expect. There were dog hairs everywhere and the windows and glass surfaces had smudges everywhere. It was tidy, but not clean. There were a few holes in the decking which caused a couple of trips!

On the whole, the hot tub was wonderful, the location was excellent, the setting by the lake was magical, the bathrooms/ bedrooms with perfect and the staff were really professional.

A great comfortable lodge, ideal location for exploring North Devon and the surrounding countryside. The lodge itself was situated next to a lake which provided lots of wildlife to see both during the day and early evening whilst relaxing in the hot tub.
We’ll definitely re-visit and stay here.

A beautiful tranquil place to stay the accommodation was well planned out and everything well thought and some lovely touches the hot tub was lovely and warm we will be booking again soon the only improvements would be there was a crack in cupboard door and some small maintenance work on kitchen units other than that it was fab

Nice location tired cabin

On arrival we were happy with the cabin location on the side of the landscaped pond, but when inside the cabin it was clear to us that the cabin was very tired and needed some updating. The floors were worn out, some kitchen cupboards were losing their laminate and the sofas were grubby. The beds were not very comfortable either.
Although this was disappointing, on the plus side the kitchen was well appointed with good quality appliances, as were the bathrooms. There were also good quality bath towels and bathrobes.
There were TVs in both bedrooms and one in the bathroom but, unfortunately these didn’t work and we requested someone to repair this with no result.
I don’t think because we have a dog, that we should be given a poor quality cabin. At over £600 for three nights, it’s not the best value when the quality of the cabin is let down by a few easy fixes inside.

We stayed at the accommodation over the Easter weekend and we loved the place. The rooms were nice and clean and so was the kitchen! Definitely recommend!

There was small damage on the hot tub but besides that the rest was spot on

Our four days in Clifton Lodge, Kentisbury Grange were delightful - even the January rain didn't dampen our enthusiasm.
The lodge was even better than depicted on the website; it was spacious, warm, clean, well-equipped- we were even provided with two dog beds for our 4- pawed companions. The view of the lake, with its visiting ducks and secret koi was lovely, the use of well placed conifers to shield and shelter the hot tub was effective as was the well-thought out gate at the end of the terrace.
Each lodge was very 'private' a fact which is not done justice in the advertising photos.
Only one small observation - we were a family with two adult children- our son and daughter commented that the single beds were a little small - perhaps more for younger children - not that this was a 'big deal' - the hot tub made up for any crunched overnight limbs!
The reception staff were friendly and efficient.

Lodge - tired looking & well worn. Needs a refresh of kitchen units, flooring , soft furnishing, sofa and external including hot tub. Not as luxurious as advertised.
